Chapter 14
ButterflyThe next day - at least Chou assumed it was the next day, she had realized in the concrete box in which she resided there was no concept of time, she could only rely on the schedules the of the workers - the lockdown was over. It was an amazing feeling for Chou to walk outside her small cell, even if it was just into the rest of the block.
While she was enjoying her enclosed freedom, her day took an even stranger turn. There was an announcement called out for her, telling her to go to the balcony. She did as she was told and met a few bored guards. In her pleasantness, she smiled at them, but the smile quickly faded when her wrists were forcefully put behind her back and handcuffs were locked onto her wrists. She attempted to protest, but her cries fell on deaf ears as she was forced up the metal stairs.
She saw a few of the boys running to her, but remembering what happened the last time they became involved in a situation, she yelled out to stop. They did as they were told, but gave her sad, scared, and sympathetic looks as she was dragged up the steps. When she was pulled through the door, she was taken aback for a moment by the new scenery. The hallway was dark, damp, and unwelcoming.
"Tsushima?" a familiar voice asked. She looked up and saw the lead doctor of the hospital looking at her with a calming expression.
She recognized him from when she entered the hospital, a time that felt forever ago.
"Yes?"
He gave her a brilliantly fake smile. "Your father is here to visit you."
Wait what? she thought. I don't have a father...
Curious, she let herself be dragged to the slightly brighter visiting area. When she got there, the strange occurrence began to make more sense.
Sitting behind a glass wall was her boss.
Chou felt herself smiling at the reminder of her life before the block.
The door slammed behind her back.
"'Father'?" she asked, making sure the tone of sarcasm was clear.
He smiled back. "They seemed only welcoming to family members. Besides, how do I explain that I'm a boss that cares so much about my employees I'd come to this hellhole to check on one?"
Chou laughed. "I've never heard you talk like this, sir."
He shrugged. "I figured you've heard worse in here."
Chou accidentally laughed, sitting down in the chair by the glass wall. "Yeah," she muttered. "Suga... Namjoon... Kookie... their verbal filters are set in some unusual places..."
"What?"
Chou shook her head, remembering her priorities. "Sir, I need you to do something for me. I need you to look up a few names from the patient
