A Personal Sunrise

Description

Kim Kibum, or Key, as he prefers to be called, is a beautiful boy with a broken life. Ever since the age of thirteen, he has been trapped in a relentlessly abusive household. He knows how to keep his composure, and his mental strength is unbreakable, but, as time passes, he begins to feel more and more alone. When his parents decide to move to a new city, he can only hope that the change of location will improve his situation. The abuse, however, only increases.

At school, Key is an outcast: the strange, quiet boy with the impeccable fashion sense and ridiculously good looks. He desperately wants friends, but he is constantly afraid of dragging them into his family's problems. So he remains alone, until he meets Lee Taemin.

As Taemin and Key become close friends, Taemin introduces Key to other new people. Lee Jinki, Choi Minho, and Kim Jonghyun become the best friends Key has ever had, and he begins to believe that the new city really has improved his life. He and Jonghyun become friends especially quickly, and Key begins to rely on him for a sense of love and security. Jonghyun is, at first, baffled by the beautiful newcomer, but their friendship slowly grows until they become inseparable.

But when Jonghyun begins to suspect that something isn't quite right in Key's household, will he step up to help him? And what will happen if Key's worst fear comes true, and the people he cares for the most become entangled in his family's web of hate?

Foreword

Location, location, location.

Isn’t that what real estate agents always say?  The location makes a big difference. It makes all the difference in the world. A great house in a bad neighborhood doesn’t sell, and a bad house in an upstanding neighborhood is nothing more than an eyesore.

But what about people? What happens when you put a good person in a bad neighborhood, or a vicious, broken person in the best of places? Do they change? Do their surroundings change? Or is it both?

Each and every day I fervently wish that location would help me. A change of scenery, a change of pace. Is it possible for such trivial things to improve my life? I can only hope so.

For the past five years, I’ve dealt with the same surroundings. The neighbors who stare when I walk out the door, even though I’ve managed to hide my bruises well. The tree in the backyard that served as my safe haven more times than I could count. The teachers at school who used to always pull me aside and ask if I was all right. The teachers who don’t bother anymore.

It wasn’t always this way. More than anything, I want people to know that. I want to climb to the roof of the tallest building in Seoul and scream that my life used to be normal. I want my neighbors to know that my parents used to love me. I want my teachers to know that there was a time when my arms were smooth and free of any injury. And, above all, I want to remind myself. I remember when things were all right. I remember happiness and love in overwhelming proportions. But each day, those memories fade a little bit more…

And I don’t want to lose them.

This is my first fanfic... so don't hate. Appreciate. ^;^ Haha, kidding, kidding. If you hate it, feel free to let me know. I also love suggestions and anything else you might have to say. ^;^  Trust me, it pains me greatly to put my lovely Key in a situation like this. But I think I can make a good story out of it, so if you're a Locket, please just bear with me, all right? It will get better! I hope... -_-'  I'm still not completely sure where this story is going to go... but I'll try my best to make it something worth reading. ^;^ *determined*  <3
