Of Cold Noses and Warm Scarfs

Summary: Minho should’ve just stayed home if it was such a pain.
Jonghyun likes taking walks in the park. In the summer, he likes the joyous ruckus that is the children’s mischievous plays, likes the people rushing by on their bikes, likes the scent of freshly cut grass and sunscreen and iced coffees. In the winter, he likes the serenity of the nature wrapped in a white blanket of snow, likes the old people walking by hand in hand, likes the way the cold makes patches of red appear on his cheeks and his ears and the tip of his nose.
What Jonghyun doesn’t like, however, is Minho’s incessant complaining (no matter the season).
“And they didn’t even clear the path way! See this? I’ve never had this much snow stuck under my boot, I swear, and when I put my foot down, it’s so deep I can’t even see it.” Jonghyun’s starting to get really ticked off as he rambles on. “I mean, come one, every step is like wading through water. And I’m sure I’ve got, like, a dozen icicles hanging from under my nose.”
Jonghyun is doing a really good job at controlling his temper, if he does say so himself, up until Minho whines, “why’re we even out in the cold anyway?” That comment does it and before Minho can continue his tirade, Jonghyun makes sure to put his foot down (figuratively, of course. He’s not that childish).
“Well, nobody asked you to come along, smartass,” he seethes and with that, Jonghyun tugs his Chullo firmly down his head and marches up to a bench. He wipes it off forcefully before plopping down, huffing.
(Okay, so maybe he can be a little childish, but it’s only because Minho’s being a nuisance.)
Pouting, Jonghyun fixes his gaze on somewhere not Minho, and he’s damn adamant about it as he hears snow crunching and then some shuffling beside him, the bench creaking with the added weight. Minho sighs, an incredibly deep intake of air that he lets out very slowly.
Jonghyun still doesn’t relent.
In the corner of his eye, though, Jonghyun catches the motion of Minho bringing his hands up to pull the collar of his jacket closer to his ears. A pinch of concern spikes in the pit of Jonghyun’s stomach, but he pushes the feeling away and mutters curtly, “you should’ve worn a scarf.”
Minho looks surprised at first, then turns sheepish. “I was in a hurry.”
Okay, now Jonghyun feels sort of bad. Because one thing is a grumpy, nitpicking Minho, another is an actually bothered Minho. And though Jonghyun didn’t make him tag along (well, not technically), he still feels kind of responsible for Minho’s frozen fingers and running nose.
With a sigh of his own, Jonghyun untucks his large woolen scarf (it’s so big half of Jonghyun’s face is hidden from view) and shoves it at Minho. The latter only stares at him uncomprehendingly and Jonghyun swears the red on his cheeks is from the cold and the cold only.
Minho is still dumfounded as he asks, “won’t you be cold?”
Jonghyun tugs his knit hat further down his face. “I’m okay. I’ve got my chullo.”
Apprehension tugs at him when a minute passes and Minho still hasn’t moved. As Jonghyun shifts to cast a sceptic glance at Minho, he feels more than sees Minho scooting closer and before he knows it, he’s pressed against Minho’s chest, wool itchy around his neck.
Jonghyun takes a moment to imagine how peculiar the two must look, what with the scarf wrapped around both of them and Minho towering over him, even in their sitting position (Jonghyun will never admit to the almost twenty centimeters). Then Minho drapes his heavy arms around his smaller frame, too, and presses him even closer and Jonghyun might have lost all thoughts at that.
“Who would’ve thought this monster of a scarf would actually come in handy.” There’s a grin in Minho’s voice.
“Shut up,” Jonghyun mutters into Minho’s neck where he has buried his face and he swears it’s only to transmit the warmth better.
A/N: Okay, so I actually wanted to write this yesterday but YouTube is like an uncontrollable time consumer and it was late and I had school early in the morning (so much for study break).
And I know this is painfully out of season, but I kinda miss this stuff since last winter was really crappy here (3 months and only one day of snow? You serious?). But here it is, so enjoy my dear readers!
Silly SHINee in winter wear for you <3.
