Hands tied up
The BodyguardChapter XX. Hands tied up
Everything seemed to be working according to the plan. Kyuhyun and some other agent had pushed her and the Prime Minister to the side, moving towards the back of the house. Shots had been fired from around the house and that let all of them know they had been surrounded. Finding one place, remote enough to be used as a hiding place and with a dead guy on the ground, Kyuhyun glanced one more time towards her, looking for eye contact. The trickiest part of the plan was about to start. Mirae’s heart was thumping like mad as Kyuhyun told them to stay low and moved around the corner to continue the fight. She couldn’t know but he was angry. So angry that he had made a mental note to have a clean shot at all enemies. It was wrong of him and he could just shoot to impair them and it was always advised to do that instead of going for the kill but he was emotional this time so he was not going to lose sleep over killing those that tried to kill him and everyone else on the President’s side.
Left alone with the Prime Minister she couldn’t help but feel scared to the bone. Once because she was once again in the middle of shooting where her life was at stake but mostly because she was crunched down to the ground, left alone with the man that was guilty for all the awful things that had happened to her and her family for the past months. It was making her nervous and she wanted to shout and scream about it. She would have normally been really nervous and fear doing something wrong and being suspected but since the situation itself was one that could make anyone fidgety and ready to break down, she could at least rest assured that nothing about her behavior was weird.
“It will be fine.” The Prime Minister told her.
She glanced towards him, nodding her head. He was whispered that to him but he was so close that she could see him sneak peeking towards the man that was on the floor. Putting her hands over her ears, she pressed her back against the wall and closed her eyes. If they had been right and the plan was going to go as intended, then any minute now the old man was going to reach for the gun next to the dead man and then use it on her. She didn’t want to see that. Anything expect what they planned and expected would have meant it either the Prime Minister didn’t want her dead or that she would live for a while more fearing an attack would happen anytime soon.
Seconds felt like minutes and she had absolutely no idea how much time was passing by as she was waiting and hoping for everything to end. It felt like centuries if she were to be honest.
“I’m sorry.” she heard the old man speaking and then finally opened her eyes.
They were right. Crunching down against the wall, hiding behind a corner of the house where they were supposedly safe, the Prime Minister in person was holding a gun and was pointing it at her. She had been told that could happen but, to be honest, she had not expected it to happen. No matter how well a plan was executed, for everything to be 100% accurate seemed like something that could happen only in dramas. She had, so naively, thought that there was no way everything could happen and realizing it did happen as they thought, no mistake, had put her in a sincere state of shock. She couldn’t even get up and try to run away.
“What?” she gulped, looking to the side, hoping Kyuhyun would be close by.
What if Kyuhyun was too far away? What if he could not reach them in time? What if instead of just trying to shoot her, the old man went for a head shot? Then even if Kyuhyun reached later, he couldn’t do anything. All those thoughts of her had gone through her hand in a matter of seconds and she couldn’t help but think that one second more and she was going to simply be dead. She didn’t even notice the way the sounds were becoming fewer and fewer. If anything, it was the sign that the shooting was going to be over soon was what had made the Prime Minister take the gun and get ready to shoot.
“Put it down.”
The next voice she had heard was calm, cold, stable. It made Mirae open her eyes and search for the owner. At first she hesitated, barely glancing towards the older man but since there was no fire and she was still alive, she slowly opened them fully and then raised her head. That drop dead cold calm voice belonged to someone she knew very well. Right in front of her, the Prime Minister was standing with his hands raised up while Kyuhyun kept a gun pointed at his head. Seconds later, Hyukjae appeared and took out a pair of cuffs.
“You’re under arrest for attempted murder.” Kyuhyun glared at the other.
Everything happened so quickly. One thing she was hoping the plan wouldn’t be accurate, the next moment she had a gun pointed at her and then she was being taken to the side while a lot of people were moving around her. She could see plenty of bodies on the ground, too much blood splattered here and there, people keeping themselves busy and her being ignored. At some point, it even seemed like there were flashes everywhere. The adrenaline rush and all of the commotion was making her feel dizzy. A medic had gone to her side, checking to see if she was injured or something but for her it was like things happened in slow motion, all of the sound resembling an echo of some kind.
When she spotted Kyuhyun again, him sporting a smile on his face, Mirae finally reacted. Moving towards him, she just wrapped her arms around his body and leaned to place her head against his chest. She didn’t really care about who was seeing her and what they could have been thinking. Everything had happened so fast it had made her feel dizzy and fragile, vulnerable even. She needed some support, any kind of support she could get and if there was one person there that was sure to give it to her, that person was Kyuhyun.
“It’s over now. We have video of him pointing a gun at you, your testimony, a few of the guys in custody. And with the press here, he can’t get away from it.” Kyuhyun spoke softly, responding to her hug.
Yes, he was not supposed to hug her. Not with her father on his way there, not with the press right outside, not with half of the team already there as they had been on standby. The press was going to be on a rave for days with the exclusive footage of the Prime Minister being caught trying to kill the daughter of the President. The team had been smart enough to tap into his phone and get a record of the calls including the one made to arrange the attack. In simpler words, they had the phone call as proof, the actual moment of it and the press had been called there to witness all of it. He couldn’t get out of it even if he tried. Well, not unless he made some sort of high profile arrangement but that seemed unlikely.
“Is it over?” she tightened her hold against his body.
“Yes. It is.” He kissed gently the top of her head.
Maybe it felt too surreal for her. Maybe it was going to feel like it had all been a dream. It had to be strange for her to find herself between fires in a minute and then find out everything was done the next. The truth was that the team had worked on all ends to make sure to matter was finished as soon as possible. With the order from the President himself, they could tap the phones and call the press. If the plan had not worked and the press would have arrived to see nothing, that would have been awkward but it wasn’t the case.
Taking a deep breath, Mi
