Prologue   Life was not that complicated for a girl like her. Her jean covered legs were crossed and her fingers were typing away furiously in immense speed. She was typing a damn essay that she spent all night typing when her stupid computer decided to run down on her and erase the 6 page worth of effort. Of course she felt like screaming and she did end up cursing so loudly her loving mother knocked on the door and asked if anything was wrong. She did curse in four different languages so she wasn’t surprised that her mother would feel as if she wanted to kill herself when all she was was frustrated. She was in her last paragraph and she glanced at the clock just to see that it read 4:15. She was left with 5 minutes left until the deadline of the essay and all she had to do was send it to her professor. Her fingers worked their hardest and when her final full-stop was typed, she immediately pressed sent.   Error.   What the was wrong with the system? Her bewildered eyes scanned her email just to see the clock turn 4:20 and she slammed her palm against the table. What in the world is this ery?  She decided to try again and when it seemed like it would send it came up with a page that made her blow her hair out of her face, puffing her cheeks out like a puffy fish.   Deadline had passed. Please contact your Professor for any inquiries.   This time, this time she felt like dying. That essay was her last and only hope to get an A+ and get a scholarship. She had been working full-time jobs just to help her father pay his debt and support her brothers’ schooling and if she really did need to pay extra for her schooling as well she rather quit university and work in McDonalds. The walk home seemed longer than she expected and she stopped in front of the door, her hands going to her forehead. She had to regain her composure in front of her younger sibling and her parents; they relied so much on her to get that scholarship that she found herself working harder than before. Her hand twisted the knob and she entered the kitchen, her fists loosening when she saw her loving parents by the kitchen engaged in a deep conversation. The moment her bare foot stepped onto the cold floor, her parents turned their eyes on her. “Home so early?” Her mother asked, smiling her half moon eye smile that she did not inherit at all. “Tired.” Her answer was blunt but she passed a small smile, lunging her bag onto the table and sitting down. A bunch of papers were on the table and she flickered her eyes to it hoping that she could ignore them. She knew what it was and she did not want to have anything to do with it.   “A couple came again today.” Her mother said, placing more papers in front of her. She stared at them not opening the envelopes knowing that it would be a bunch of modeling and singing offers. She shook her head, pushing the papers away. “I’ll just continue working hard in my part time job.” Her fathers’ eyes dimmed and she played with her food silently on her place. “When is the next due date for the bill?” She asked her father. “Soon, in three days.” “So soon?” Her stomach sunk. They were short on cash and to top that off, she most probably would not get her scholarship and the payment of her tuition fee would by the end of the month. “They moved it forward.”   Her father’s personality was somewhat similar to hers. They were both blunt, more to the quiet and introverted side. They both hated complications and had little to talk about, guarding themselves with walls that took more than a sledgehammer to break it down.   Her lean legs stretched under the table and she stood up, the chair dragging against the floor when pushed back. Her mother looked at her surprised most likely due to the fact that she did not eat as much as they expected her to. She lifted her backpack onto her shoulder and lifted the books she held. “I’m not hungry.” She told her mother and retreated to her room. On the way, she passed her brothers room opened the door to peek through the gap just to see him peacefully sleeping. With a smile, she closed the door to his bedroom and went into her own. She jumped onto the bed and lit a candle- they
