The (non) perks of bowling
Spring flingChapter 9 The (non) perks of bowling
Two days later Hyukjae found himself standing face to face with his former girlfriend. The only one who hadn´t broken his heart by saying awful words and slapping his face (one of his ex-girlfriends had slapped him right across his poor face when she dumped him in middle school. He still didn’t know why).
Back to the one now standing in his doorway at seven thirty on a Wednesday evening. They had both agreed together that it was best for them to end their relationship, most people wouldn’t even call it a relationship to begin with. It was during their last year of high school and the two classmates had been spending a lot of time with each other in the dance practice room of their school. As, at all schools’, rumors spread like a wild fire and before they knew it every student thought they where an item.
In the end they decided to try it out, to see if their classmates had seen something they had missed. That wasn’t the case and the two friends had ended it all quickly.
Ever since then Hyukjae had considered the girl before him his best friend of the opposite and the little sister he never got.
But like all of his friends Kim Hyoyeon wanted to meddle with the elder´s love life.
“I´m telling you oppa, she could be the one. She´s pretty, smart and has humor (kind of). So, maybe she gets easily offended, but that´s something the two of you can work on together. She studied at university with me and she is one of my closest friends. You would like her if you just gave her a chance.”
“Hyoyeon, you know what my answer is. Why even bother?” Hyukjae let out a sigh and looked pointedly towards the blonde girl. Why didn’t his friends give up?!
The other frowned and crossed her arms over her chest.
They started a small staring contest, neither wanting to give in.
“But I already promised her that you said yes. I can´t tell her something else now. Both you and I will seem like douchebags! Come on oppa, just go out with her for my sake.” Hyoyeon pulled the man into a hug and fluttered her lashes. Trying to look cute had always been her go to trick when she wanted it her way.
Sighing the raven head rubbed his fingers against his temples, doing anything to calm himself down and ease his growing headache. He had to come up with a good explanation as fast as possible, because not wanting to go was not good enough it seemed like. But like most times when these things happened he wasn’t quick enough.
“Oppa~~”
“Fine! But next time something like this happens don’t suggest me. Better yet, don’t even thing about me, okay?”
“Perfect!! I will text you the info tonight but keep Friday evening open.” Hyoyeon let go of Hyukjae and grinned in victory. She brushed back a strand of hair that had fallen in front of her face behind her ear and begun backing away from the flat. “I knew I could count on you Hyukjae. But I need to go. Love you Oppa, bye.”
With that the elevator doors opened, and the girl walked inside the metal chamber.
Hyukjae was left standing in the opening of his apartment, only managing to blink. He really had to learn how to say no to all the things the younger girl wanted him to do. All these years spent with one another should have taught him that. Seemed like he had more practice to do when it came to be turning Hyoyeon down.
Just as he was about to close the entryway the door next to his opened. From the inside of the apartment a mop of messy brown locks stuck out. Their eyes locked and the man with midnight black hair smiled, his white teeth and pink gums on full display.
“Hey there Donghae. Did you just wake up?”
The shorter male blinked a few times and smiled back at the other.
“Hi Hyuk, yeah. I got back from work around five hours ago. If I could I would sleep for two days straight. But I don’t thing that’s possible. I would lose my job and starve to death. I could never give up on my beloved food. Who cares about slumber when you have food?!”
“Wow! Don’t you think you should go back to sleep though? You can probably skip dinner, it looks like you could need some more rest.” Hyukjae gave the other a once over, indicating that the latter seemed a bit to out of it to be healthy. “Oh, before I forget it. I thought about your lack of being able to keep track of your house key. So, instead of bothering our landlord every time or if he happens to be out. I left a spare key to my place under my door mat. I highly doubt that one of our neighbors will see or use it.”
“Really?! Thanks, Hyuk! I´ll use it if I ever need to. Now you won´t get rid of me no matter how much you want to.” Donghae beamed brightly and walked over to where Hyukjae was standing, still halfway inside the hallway of his flat. The shorter male hugged the fellow man and began to jump slightly. He spun them both around a few laps before letting go of Hyukjae.
“Sure, I think I´ll be able to live with having you around. We can have dinner together and maybe watch movies. If you feel like it. But I won´t be at home on Friday evening unfortunately. I promised a friend to do her a favor.”
The brunet nodded with glee showing over his entire expression. “I would love to eat with you and binge movies and devour treats waaay too sweet for your own good. I must work on Friday night so it´s all cool, but I have the weekend off if you wanna do something. Maybe something outside during the day. My mom always told me that I would become a couch potato if I spend all my time inside. And I don’t want to be a vegetable. They don’t seem to have a fun life- grow, grow some more and then get eaten. I don’t want to end up being someone´s dinner. I don’t taste that well. I think…”
“I don’t think you´ll literally become a potato, but if that would be the case I´ll hide you from anyone trying to eat you up. You should get back to bed now, get your beauty sleep when you have the time.”
The latter said that he would put his ´potato-life´ trust in the taller. With one last short embrace Donghae said goodnight and promised to get his beauty sleep. Even though his friends and other people often told him he didn’t need it,
