The Ugly Truth
Spring flingChapter 11 The Ugly Truth
The following morning Hyukjae woke up at nine-forty. Since it was Saturday there was no hurry in getting up yet. He raised his arms up, stretching out his back to make all the knots that had formed during the night´s sleep untangle. When they were taken care of the man sat up amongst the duvet and pillows. The teacher was just about to grab his glasses and phone when the doorbell rang.
With glasses in hand, Hyukjae untangled himself from the blanket and stood up. Putting on the black frames while walking. When he reached the entrance, the doorbell rang once more. As fast as possible the resident opened the door while running his fingers through the messy locks on top of his head.
Before him stood a fully dressed beaming Donghae. The man in question reached out his right hand so his fingers could touch the black frames in front of Hyukjae´s spectacles. The corners of his mouth pulled higher up and white teeth was on full display. He looked way to happy on a Saturday morning before it was double digits.
“Good morning Hyuk! The sun is up, and birds are chirping. I´m guessing, I haven’t been outside today, nor have I had any windows opened, so. But judging by the spring day- summer feeling outdoors- I should be right. Oh, you have glasses. Either way I thought we could have breakfast together as well since were gonna hang out today. And I may or may not have a totally empty fridge… But that´s beside the story. So, what do you say?”
Hyukjae closed his eyes briefly, when he re-opened them again the younger was still standing on the door mat. Somewhere in the back of his mind he vaguely remembered talking to Donghae about spending Saturday together. Without saying anything the black-haired man nodded in a mixture of agreement and acknowledgment. He then turned around and began walking inside the apartment, signalizing for Donghae to follow.
Some minutes later the two had move into in the kitchen. Like the last time it had happened Hyukjae stood in front of the refrigerator scanning for something to eat. Donghae had taken a seat on one of the chairs next to the dining table.
“What do you want to have for breakfast? Anything in specific?” Hyukjae closed the fridge door and looked over to his morning guest. Hoping that the other had any idea what to have, his head hadn’t fully cleared the dream haze away.
“What about traditional Korean food? It was such a long time since I had that in the morning. I don’t really cook myself and I don’t have the will to go to a restaurant or some other store every morning and buy it either. And my mom lives hours away so going there is also a huge no-no in this case.”
“Sure. I will fix something like that with what I got.” With that, the older turned back around and started to take things out of draws and the fridge. He put his pot on the stove, the hotplate and filled a measuring cup with the right amount of water. When it was full he took out a box with rice. Just as he was about to pour the grains in the younger called out his name, telling him to stop.
The raven head raise an eyebrow in question. The reply was a simple question of what he was doing with the pot. In response Hyukjae told the brunet about how he had managed to break his cooker and now had to use the old way with a pot on the stove.
Donghae shook his head, “Hold up! Wait there and don´t move a muscle. Well other than to keep yourself alive, the heart is a very important muscle to keep in motion.”
In a flash the younger had gotten up and run out of the apartment. He heard the door open and then close. Five minutes later the door retrieved, and the man was back carrying a metallic and black rice cooker.
“Here, you can have mine. I don’t use it and since half of the food is for me it´s logic that you can have it. Yours doesn’t even work. And now you won´t have to waste your money on something like this if you were thinking of buying a new one. It´s a win-win situation for both of us. Good, right?!” Donghae placed the machine on the counter next the Hyukjae and swiftly found the power outlet (it wasn’t that hard since they lived in similar flats) to make it work.
Hyukjae thanked the younger for the rice cooker and one again begun to cook their breakfast. Though he high doubted that anything the other man had said had made any sense. But as he knew by now, logic wasn’t Donghae´s thing, even if the man in question studied to become a doctor.
While the rice was finishing cooking and all the side dished waited on the table, the teacher asked the morning guest to set out the table wear as he himself when to change into something more appropriate than his pajama. Donghae agreed without a second thought and the older ran of to prepare himself for the day to come.
A beep sounded, and the house owner walked back in to the kitchen to see that the grains was done steaming. As the table was set as well, the two men took their respective seats. They dug in and chatted throughout the meal.
When the dishes had been washed they set out to spend time in the nice early summer weather that had arrived.
The two men made their way down town to the central part of the city. Well there they walked around (more like Donghae pulled the older around). From different stores to a small gallery that had a showing of photography’s inspired by the spring and everything that bloomed during the season.
Hyukjae learned that the younger man had a fascination for photographs as well as taking pictures of his own when he had the time.
Three hours went by and Donghae deemed it time for something sweet. They came across a tiny café wedged between two clothe stores. He dragged Hyukjae inside and made their way to the counter. Before them stood a couple and a small group of girls. The second the brunet started reading the menu out loud for the whole shop to hear, the black-haired male saw how most of the females -and one or two guys- in the café turned to the loud man and stared. Not in annoyance but in admiration of his good looks.
When they saw the taller man next to the Adonis most of the viewers seemed taken aback and small frowns and raised foreheads could easily be spotted on their faces. Having grown up with the treatment since he reached the age where everyone started to care about looks, Hyukjae lowered his head and prayed to be invisible. If he didn’t look hopefully the other people would stop doing it.
Because of this he didn’t listen to what the younger one was saying and therefor no response was heard. Donghae noticed this and turned his vision to his left where the other man stood. Worried about the sudden silence he placed his hand on the raven´s arm and squeezed softly.
The action got a response, Hyukjae raised his head and met the kind brown eyes of the brunet, looking back at him. His eyes moved down to where the younger had his hand and minor smiles grew on their lips. In a nervous action he pushe
