Doe In The City

Fixing The Sun

Sunny was in the midst of jumping on Joon’s bed with Nana while Ryohei blasted “Sugar Free” from his speakers when she saw her phone light up on the dresser, interrupting their mini concert. Bouncing off the bed, she picked up her phone and a big smile crossed her face when she saw who it was calling her.

“Hi Yoona!” Sunny shouted over the music, but she couldn’t hear her friend’s response. Ryohei was about to lower the music when Sunny gestured towards the door, not wanting to spoil his and Nana’s fun.

“Hello! Sunny?! You there?!” Sunny could hear Yoona shout into the receiver although her phone was not anywhere near her ears.

“Yeah I’m here! Sorry bout that. What’s up?”

“Was that Sugar Free? Gosh my ears are still ringing! How are you not deaf?!”

“Ryohei got a bit excited when he got his autographed copy of T-ara’s album. He’s been blasting it ever since. It can get a bit annoying, but he’s usually so quiet its funny seeing him like this.” Sunny admitted.

“Did you just say that Hyomin sounds annoying?!” Yoona jokingly asked, sounding as if Sunny had just said something blasphemous.

“Shut it. I didn’t say that. Anyway whats up?”

“Nothing much. I just miss my roommate that’s all. The room seems a lot bigger and emptier without you here.” Sunny could hear the sadness in Yoona’s voice, and she felt a bit guilty for not coming back. She’s just been enjoying her time in the roommate house way too much.

“Yah! Are you saying I’m fat?” Sunny accused, trying to sound mad.

“No, no not at all.” Yoona dismissed, but couldn’t help but giggle as she could practically imagine the shorter girl pouting on the other end of the phone.

“Anyways, how’re things back in the dorm? Is everyone doing alright?” Sunny threaded carefully, curious if there had been any more incidences involving Jessica recently.

“Well actually yeah! It happened out of the blue a few days ago. Sica-unnie sat us all down in the living room and apologized to us! I mean, we didn’t really know what brought it on but she’s been really nice to us lately. She even made breakfast for us yesterday!” Yoona excitedly said, to Sunny’s disbelief.

“Wait what? Really?”

“Yeah! It tasted horrible, but it’s the effort right?”

“Huh.” That was all Sunny could say. How did Sica just completely change in the last few days? Sunny wondered if the conversation that she had had with Jessica 2 weeks ago had anything to do with this change of mood.

“Yeah, things have calmed down considerably lately. So unnie…why don’t you come home? I…miss my roommate.” Yoona asked in a innocent, soft voice. If Sunny were a different person, Yoona could have asked anything of Sunny in that tone of voice and she would most probably get it.

Did Sunny miss hanging out with her groupmates? Of course she did. But she can’t deny that she was more than reluctant to leave the Roommate house, even if it was for just one night. She wasn’t prepared to go back yet, remembering all the sleepless nights, cries of frustration and tears that were shed in her bedroom.

“I can’t Yoong. Not right now. I’m still filming a few scenes for the show.” Sunny half-lied. She did have scenes to film, but the cameras in the house were for the majority of the day so she’s sure that even if she wasn’t in the house, the PD’s would still find other scenes to fill in the gap. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to do nothing as she heard Yoona let out a disappointed sigh from the other end.

“I’ll tell you what Yoong. Why don’t you come over here and visit me? Be a guest on the show! I’ll introduce you to my roommates and you can make new friends. It’ll be fun!”

Sunny let out a sigh of relief when she heard Yoona chirp back up on the other end. A quick check of her schedule later and just like that Roommate is going to get it’s first SNSD guest visiting the house tomorrow. They spent a few more minutes catching up until Joon came bouncing up the stairs singing along to Sugar Free at the top of his lungs. She took that as a cue to end the call, as Joon dragged her into the bedroom to rejoin the mini concert. She was going to get sick of this song by the end of the month, she thought.

Sunny stepped out of the SNSD van and looked around the parking basement of the apartment that housed the other members of her group. It hasn’t really been that long since the last time she was here, in fact it’s only been two weeks since Hyomin had driven her here to pick up hangers for her new house. She missed the dorms and the rest of her group, so she was looking forward to bringing Yoona over to her house to meet her roommates. If everyone else wasn’t so busy Sunny seriously wouldn’t have minded bringing the other 7 people along as well, but she doubted that SM Entertainment would allow all 9 members of Girls’ Generation to be on a show and not receive compensation. Having just Yoona guest on it as a favour to Sunny was pushing it in itself since Yoona was one of the main moneymakers in the company.

Sunny dialed Yoona’s number to let her know she was here.

“Yoong! I’m downstairs! Hurry up and come down here!” Sunny said as soon as Yoona picked up.

“Alright! Don’t you want to come up first for a bit? It’s been awhile.” Yoona asked, and Sunny contemplated it for a minute. She didn’t want to be late for the rest of the Roommate shoot today because she knew there were guests waiting for her back in the share house, but she figured that a quick hello wouldn’t hurt.

“Maybe I will. See you upstairs in a bit.” Sunny said and hung up before signaling to her manager that she was going to go visit the dorm for a little while. He tapped his wristwatch to indicate that they were on a schedule, and she nodded in understanding.

Sunny took the familiar elevator ride up to the 9th floor and soon found herself in front of the white wooden door that led to the Girls’ Generation dorm. The door swung open before Sunny’s fingers could even make contact with the handle, and she found herself wrapped in Yoona’s arms in a heartbeat. She felt herself being dragged into the living room where she was met with the peculiar sight of Hyoyeon, Sooyoung and Jessica sitting on the long couch watching TV. It looked like the most natural sight in the world, almost as if the whole arguing that had been going on in the past few months never happened.

“Hey stranger.” Sooyoung casually said with her arms folded across her chest while Hyoyeon got up to join Sunny in giving Sunny a hug.

Sunny’s eyes kept darting back and forth between Jessica and Sooyoung. Sooyoung was always the more outspoken out of all of them, so Sunny couldn’t remember the last time the shikshin and Jessica were in the same room without some sort of argument breaking out.

As if reading her mind, Sooyoung addressed Sunny’s thoughts. “I know what you’re probably thinking. How is it that me and Sica aren’t at each others’ throats right now? Well… turns out the Ice Princess can be quite cool when she’s chilled out.” Sooyoung said which caused Jessica to laugh and poke the girl next to her in the ribs.

“Also, we’ve sorted out our differences. Late night soju and tears and all that.” Sica said, which was followed by Sooyoung vehemently insisting “I did not cry!” with a blush on her cheeks.

“We were in the middle of watching your first episode on Roommate. You look like you’re having fun.” Hyoyeon said, pointing to the TV. Sunny saw herself freaking out over Young Ji handling the octopus on the screen of the large TV. She honestly had no idea that the first episode was already airing, and she felt touched that her groupmates were monitoring her.

“Hyoyeon already has a crush on the Japanese guy.” Sooyoung pointed to the blonde dancer, and Hyoyeon just smiled brightly and tugged on Sunny’s arm asking Sunny to set her up.

“Well, actually me and Yoona are going to the Roommate house tonight. You can come if you’d like?”

Hyoyeon lit up until Jessica reminded the dancer that she had to coach the trainees in the SM dance studio later that night. Hyoyeon just groaned and sighed in defeat.

“Invite us on sometime. We’d like to meet your new friends, they look like good people.” Jessica smiled as she talked to Sunny, and Sunny had to admit she sorely missed seeing it on the American’s face.

“They really are. I have sooo many people that I need to introduce to the Roommate folks that I’m actually pretty excited.”

Sunny and Yoona waved goodbye to the rest of their sisters and headed down to the parking basement and was met with an impatient manager, worried that they were late. The pair apologized for their tardiness and together they headed off to Seongbukdong.

************************************

The ride to the roommate house was quiet, as Sunny was lost in her own thoughts. She hasn’t felt that atmosphere back in the dorm for a really long time. It was almost as if things were….normal again. It’s only been two weeks since Sunny left the dorm, but things were already changing. A part of her wondered if her leaving the house actually had a positive effect on her other groupmates.

“It was nice, wasn’t it?”

Sunny turned to look at Yoona, who was leaning back in her seat with a bright smile on her face, eyes glinting in the dark of the van as if she was trying to memorize Sunny’s features. Sunny just nodded, not quite sure what else to say.

“Penny for your thoughts unnie?”

“Did…me leaving the house sort of have a positive effect on you guys? You’ve been fighting for months, but reconcile two weeks after I left. I was just wondering, that’s all…” Sunny trailed off, making her thoughts known.

“Don’t be ridiculous unnie! If anything, things became worse after you left. Without you there to mediate the fighting, it just escalated and went on for days. Sooyoung-unnie or Taeyeon-unnie would get mad at Sica-unnie, then Yuri would get mad at them and defend Sica….it was chaos without you.”

Sunny couldn’t help but feel guilty as she heard Yoona’s story. Maybe leaving the dorm was more selfish than she thought.

“But, Yuri told me that you had a talk with Sica didn’t you? That you somehow made it better.”

Sunny looked up when Yoona leaned in and lightly poked her cheek.

“Even when you’re not in the house, you still somehow manage to hold the group together. It’s amazing unnie.”

Sunny couldn’t help but blush at Yoona’s statement, but she couldn’t bring herself to deny it. Sometimes she did feel like the glue that held the group together, but to hear it from somebody else’s mouth was a whole other thing.

“Anyways, how are you and Seunggi lately? I miss hearing you talk about him late at night.” Sunny said, trying to shift the topic away from her because the attention was making her slightly uncomfortable.

“Pfft. Don’t lie. You don’t miss it at all! …But we’re good. He takes care of me well. I don’t get to see him as much I want to, but we try our best to make it work.” Yoona had a faraway look in her eyes as her thoughts slowly drifted away into faded recollections of the few precious moments she managed to spend with her boyfriend.

“That’s good to hear. I miss seeing him around.”

“Me too.” Came a voice from the front of the van, and both girls looked up to see their manager grinning cheekily at them from the rear-view mirror.

“Aishh! Oppa this is a private conversation!” Sunny whined and their manager just laughed while nodding in understanding.

“How about you and Hyomin? Have you confessed to her yet?” Yoona asked slyly, knowing full well that Sunny has never openly admitted to having romantic feelings for the T-ara member. She loved teasing her unnie about her relationship with Hyomin because it was one of the few things that can get her flustered.

“No, not yet. I don’t think I can gather the courage to tell her. The timing is just not right.” Sunny unexpectedly answered, leaving Yoona to stare at the shorter girl with hung open. Sunny looked to the side and caught Yoona gawking at her and wondered what was wrong.

“Unnie…you’ve changed since you moved out…” Yoona stated in wonderment leaving Sunny even more confused.

“I miss Hyomin too. She always helps me take the best Instagram photos!” Their manager chimed in again, earning him another chorus of complains from the two girls about boundaries and respecting their privacy.

**********************************

Having Yoona around the Roommate house was an amazingly fun experience. The younger SNSD member looked slightly intimidated at first being around so many distinguished celebrities that were her seniors in the industry such as Jong Ok and the two G.O.D members Danny Ahn and Joon Hyung, but Gook Ju managed to loosen her up with some jokes.

Sunny had proudly introduced all her roommate family members to Yoona, happy that she could finally bring at least one of her group members over to the house.

After the first hour had passed, Yoona had assimilated completely into the fun and relaxed atmosphere of the house that she even forgot that they were shooting a TV show right now. Yoona had been brought to tears due to excessive laughing on more than one occasion that night, and she noticed that the fact that Sunny just took this all in stride must mean that she was used to all this. Yoona couldn’t help but feel slightly jealous of Sunny for being able to laugh like this on an everyday basis, but then she remembered that if there was anyone that deserved to laugh loud and heartily, it was the Energizer Bunny of SNSD.

When the fun had died down a little and Gook Ju had given them a tour of the house ala real estate agent style, Yoona found herself sitting down on the long couch in the downstairs living room of the house just marveling at how large and beautiful the house was. The movement of the camera outside the window looking in caught Yoona’s attention and she followed it with her eyes, fascinated that all these people could live in a house where every single move of theirs could be documented.

Young Ji had fallen asleep on the sofa next to her, making the only sounds heard in the living room where the ones made by Young Ji’s light snoring, and Sunny’s occasional giggles as she and Jackson were playing with Oi the dog by the dining table.

Yoona observed her friend as Sunny laughed at Jackson’s attempt to steal Oi’s attention away from her, and was slightly taken aback by how bright and happily her elder member was smiling. It finally dawned on Yoona that maybe Sunny wasn’t as cheery as she thought the SNSD Bunny was before this. Maybe Sunny had been faking her smile all along. Her smile never really reached her eyes in the last few months she spent in the dorm, but Yoona somehow dismissed it since Sunny was always so hyper.

It felt good to see Sunny this happy.

Sunny had gotten up from playing with Oi and the floor and walked towards the couch, turning to Yoona as she covered Young Ji’s sleeping form with a blanket.

“Ready to go?”

Yoona just nodded and got up, glad she got the opportunity to see Sunny’s genuine smile again. A smile she never realised she missed in her life.

“Unnie?”

“Hmm?”

“Thanks for inviting me here tonight.”

Sunny put her arm around Yoona’s shoulder and walked her to the door, glad that Yoona had enjoyed herself.

“Anytime Yoong.”

Well, that was my take on Yoona guesting on Roommate. It's a pretty slow paced update, but the story will start picking up in the next chapter and since this fic is sort of based on a real timeline, no prizes for figuring out what's going to happen next. Well, I would like to give a prize but I'm a broke college student T_T . I honestly only focused on Sunny's connection with Yoona since the start of this fic to build up to this chapter. Sunny's last few weeks have been pretty good since she came into the Roommate house huh? Everything's finally getting back on track.

HUGE thanks to Kamisa, Sunshinerex, musiarc and Hurtwhitewolf for the upvotes! I'm so glad that people are enjoying this story. I was actually worried that this fic was becoming draggy and boring. I actually fell asleep while reading through it once. ._.

Thanks to all the subscribers! Easter break now, so another post will come again sooner than usual!

Chapter 23: I finished reading this for only 3 days and I LOVE IT! It made me CRY (several times! Im just so emotional when it comes to Sica's departure), it made me feel HAPPY and SAD at the same time, and it seemed REAL that it made me HOPE; not the gayness between sunbyung and taengsic couple >< (tho i wish they are real) it gave me hope again that OT9 is still possible but then, those hopes came crashing down as I read the further chapters, Sica's happy tho, that's what all it takes for me to accept reality. This fic made me LAUGH and i still can't forget about f(x) being ancient and snsd being fossils XD, it made me cry laughing! And I don't want to spoil a lot in the commnts so those who want to read it shall not wait for tomorrow! One chapter's left and I am yet to upvote all chapters T.T I'll be upvoting it all after author nim decides to pub. the last chap, hehe and a little confession, i read the version of this story fist, hehe, whew! this is my longest comment so far! to author nim: pls update soon ~,~
