Guilt
Behind the Mask [Bangtan]Jungkook sat in front of the mirror in the stylist's chair as she fiddled with his hair and makeup repeatedly. As she did so, Jungkook texted Zhen. She was only just getting out from school, since there was a mandatory study hall after hours due to the upcoming midterms, and she’d left early to make it to the show.
“It’s not necessarily my fault,” Mallory groaned from behind him, and Jungkook immediately knew that she and Suga were having a disagreement, again.
He turned slightly. “Noona?” She turned to face him, eyes wide with surprise, as if she’d forgotten he was in the room. “Zhen said she’s on her way, but she had to stop off. Where is she going?”
“Uhm, I think she’s going to get a few things before coming here.” She answered.
Jungkook was turned so the stylist could finish his hair, and his suspicious feel overwhelmed him.
He was convinced. If Zhen didn’t show up that night, to see the show backstage and for the interview, he would tear the mask off of Midnight Captures.
Because he knew, deep in his gut, that Midnight Captures and Zhen Ai were the same people.
Mallory sat on the couch, her eyes directed to her feet, as Suga paced in front of her. “I said I was sorry, okay? I’ll buy you a new one-”
“Don’t buy me a new one, Mallory, I don’t want a new one.” He sighed, stopping and pushing his hands through his orange hair. He shook his head. “How in the world did you break my phone?” He asked, staring directly at her now.
Mallory blushed. “I, uh… well, I may have gotten scared and jumped.”
“And dropped my phone?” He asked, and Mallory nodded. “And somehow, even with the protective case, it broke.” She nodded again. “I don’t know why I find this hard to believe.”
Mallory frowned. “Well, I may or may not have taken the case off the phone.”
Suga rolled his eyes. “No kidding. And why did you do that?”
“Because it was in the way.”
“Of what?”
Mallory bit back a small smile. “My hand.” Suga, surprisingly, laughed at this, and shook his head, looking up at the ceiling. “On the bright side, I found my phone.” She’d kidnapped Yoongi’s phone in order to call her own and, clearly, had dropped it.
“Who scared you?”
Mallory rolled her eyes. “J-Hope.”
“It was an accident!” J-Hope called from the stylist chair.
Suga sighed and moved towards Mallory, sitting down beside her. “You’re clumsy.” He said.
“Not usually.” She pointed out, shrugging her shoulders. “Anyways, since I found my phone, I got a text from Zhen saying she was on her way. She should be here any minute now.”
Suga nodded. “Let’s hope so, because we’re on in five.”
Just as he said this, the stage director came in, asking the boys to move towards the stage, and where they would enter.
“Yeojaneun Choegoui!” Jungkook belted, and the crowd screamed.
Mallory stood behind the stage, filming on her small camcorder and noting their movements, when she realized that, even still, Zhen hadn’t arrived.
“Seonmuriya seonmuriya!” V continued, and Mallory turned away from the stage, keeping the camera on the boys, in search for her friend. It would kill Jungkook if she wasn’t there.
And just as the song ended, and Mallory looked back to the stage, Jungkook, who was smiling incredibly wide, looked back to where she st
