Rings and Masks
Behind the Mask [Bangtan]Zhen and Jungkook sat on the floor of Zhen’s bedroom, surrounded by wrapping paper and boxes, while Zhen stacked all her gifts at her side. Jungkook had made sure to tell Zhen that everyone was given money, Zhen assumed from Cho Hee, to buy her presents.
From Jin, she’d gotten a blue sweater that had silver star designs decorating the front of the sweater. He’d snuck into the box a smaller box that was labeled ‘From Suji’ that held a small bracelet charm that was in the shape of boxing gloves. This made Zhen laughed. Jimin had given Zhen a new pair of fingerless gloves, which had rhinestones on the knuckles. They were cute, but Zhen doubted she’d wear them. Then there was Taehyung, who gave her an enormous swirling lollipop. Suga got her a beanie with white letters spelling DOPE. Rap Monster got her a white shirt with black letters spelling DOPE, which convinced Zhen that they bought their presents together. J-Hope got Zhen a surprisingly large teddy bear.
So finally, Zhen looked to Jungkook. “What’d you get me?”
“Have you opened Jun Hyun’s present?” Jungkook asked, sliding his own present behind his back.
Zhen made a face. “Jun Hyun didn’t get me a present, Jungkook.”
Jungkook stood and walked across the room, towards Zhen’s chair. He grabbed the bag Jun Hyun had given her before they went camping. He smirked and tossed it to her. “I meant this one.”
“Have you opened yours?”
Jungkook shook his head and sat in front of her again. “No, I haven’t really had time to do anything. We’ve been so busy lately with music videos, camping, and I’ve been with you,” Zhen smiled and looked down, shaking her head. “I will when I get home tonight.”
Zhen rolled her eyes and pulled the sweater Jun Hyun had given her out of the bag. She held it up and noted that, first, it was red and white striped. Stripes were, apparently, Jun Hyun’s favorite. But on the front of the sweater, nearer to the right side, was red cursive V and E. “Oh god,” She said, turning it towards Jungkook. “I’m sure yours has the L and the O.”
He laughed. “We’re wearing them everywhere.”
“I’m burning this,” She said, placing it with her pile of gifts. She then turned to her boyfriend with her arms crossed over her chest. “Hand it over, Jeon Jungkook.”
He rolled his eyes and reached behind him, pulling out a box about the size of his hand. “Don’t laugh, okay?” He said, handing her the box. She pulled the top off, and her eyes widened. “I bought it a few days ago, when Cho Hee brought up the birthday party, because you lost the necklace and I felt bad and all, but then you had that nightmare this morning, and I really felt like you needed it, so I didn’t return it to get something else, but I kind of wish I had-”
Zhen pressed her lips to his, wrapping her arms around his neck, shutting him up. His hands moved to the small of her back, and he kissed her back. When the two parted, she smiled. “I love it,” She said, hugging him and looking over his shoulder at the present in her hand.
Staring back at her was an intricate dream catcher. The dream catcher itself was white, but the small crystal at the center was light blue, and the three feathers at the end were white at the base and turned light blue, to a deep dark blue at the ends.
Zhen scooted back, away from him, and smiled. “I’ll hang it over my bed.” She said, hurrying towards her desk and pulling open a drawer. She pulled a tac from one of the small boxes inside and hurried to her bed. “Does this look straight?” She asked, pinning it to the wall. Jungkook hummed a reply and Zhen sat back to look at it. “I really do love it,” She said over her shoulder.
Jungkook stood. “I’m glad. Want to go watch a movie?” She nodded and he reached a hand towards her. She took his hand and he pulled her off the bed towards him, and then started towards the door.
But she let go. “You go ahead of me,” She said, spotting his sweater laying on her chair. She had given him back the sweater he’d given her that morning, when they stopped by the dorm to help pack Suga’s bag, and he grabbed another one for himself. But when they got back to the house, he’d taken it off, complaining that her room was stuffy. “I’ll meet you down there,” She said, and he shrugged, continuing down the stairs. Kirakira chased behind him, yipping and jumping at his hands. He grabbed her and carried her down the steps with him.
Zhen shot towards his sweater and moved to pull it on. She was feeling cold, and if they were going to go watch a movie, she needed something to curl up with, and she didn’t feel like dragging her blanket downstairs.
But when she lifted the sweater, a small box fell out of one of the pockets. She stared down at it as she pulled on his sweater and zipped up the front. She leaned to pick it up and raised an eyebrow, starting towards the stairs. “Jungkook?” She called.
“Hmm?” He asked from below.
She trudged down the steps and stopped at the last one. She looked up at him and held up the box. “What’s up with the box?” She asked.
He looked up and spotted the box, immediately looking fluster. He bit his lip and then sighed. “Open it. You tell me what’s up with the box.”
Zhen made a face and peeled the top off. Inside were two silver rings. One was a wide band, with a small heart cut out of the center and a band of the silver missing around the ring. The second ring was the cut out from the top ring. It was a thin piece of silver with a heart directly in the middle. Her eyes widened and she looked up. “Are these… couples rings?”
Jungkook set Kirakira on the floor and stiffly walked towards Zhen. “I was going to give them to you today, but I thought it was too early.” He said, reaching out and plucking the box from her fingers. He pulled the thin, heart shaped ring from the box and reached for Zhen’s hand. “I winged it on the finger measurements, but your fingers are small so,” The ring slid on perfectly. “It wasn’t too hard.”
He barely finished his sentence
