The phrase was Bomi's life but Bomi's life wasn't the phrase. 

She wanted to live it, and it was her motto; but her life was everything but ethical, right, and virtuous.

She wanted to be the hero but her past didn't allow her to be, it held her from being the person she wanted to be.

And when someone comes into your life and willingly helps you with all their effort, that's really all you need to turn that life on it's head.
