So, after figuring out the quality issue, let's move on to something more pleasant, okay?

When it comes to searching for resources, I had a difficult time as well, since I had no clue what I was doing and how I could do it. 

I use only one type of patterns for now, since they are my favorite.

The patterns are called scanlines and are really nice to work with.

Examples for using scanlines:

You may not see them, but they are there.

Installing them is easy (for photoshop):

And after that you just have to be careful and change the bucket option to pattern or foreground, depending if you want to fill in a layer with a pattern or a color. Always use bucket tool on a new and empty layer.
