Chapter 15

The Stripper

Yoona opened her eyes slowly, feeling a slight weight on top of her, she looked down lazily, staring at the person whose face was buried in her neck and breath was slightly tickling her. Both of them were still in yesterday’s clothing yet there barefoot, their legs entangled and Seohyun had her arms tightly around her midsection while Yoona had one hand below Seohyun’s head and the other one was wrapped around Seohyun’s waist.

She smiled at the sight, she wouldn’t be able to get up until Seohyun released her from her grip and the latter wouldn’t be able to wake up until she released her, they were too entangled into each other.

Yoona couldn’t help but wish she could wake up every day for the rest of her life like this.

Yoona watched as Seohyun’s head leaned out from her neck, her breath no longer tickling, her eyes fluttered open slowly, only to widen once she realized the position she and Yoona.

“Good morning Seohyun.” Yoona said, never in her life had she woken up so happy. Yoona was not a morning person.

“Good…morning.” Seohyun replied with a small blush on her cheeks, she tried to untangle herself from Yoona, but the latter just smiled teasingly tightening her grip on the younger girl not allowing her to move away from her. “What are you doing?” Asked Seohyun with a still sleepy tone to her voice.

“I’m cuddling with my girlfriend.” Yoona replied with ease, a huge alligator smile painted on her face.

Seohyun just raised an eyebrow at that.

“I don’t recall becoming your girlfriend.” Seohyun asked, the sleepiness slipping away from her slowly. “I don’t even recall you asking let alone agreeing.”

“Some questions don’t need to be asked.” Yoona said cockily, not noticing the serious look on Seohyun’s expression. “But just for the records…do you want to be my girlfriend?”

Yoona then noticed the troubled expression on Seohyun’s face and she frowned at this, she felt Seohyun trying to softly release herself from her hold, so she loosened her grip and watched as Seohyun sat up, she followed suit and sat up, searching Seohyun’s gaze with her own but Seohyun kept avoiding it.

“I’m sorry.” Was all Seohyun said.

Yoona’s eyes widened and suddenly she felt like an idiot. But… why? Seohyun had given her all the signals, everything pointed to the fact that she wanted to be with her too… but why?

“No… I’m the one that should be sorry.” Yoona said, standing up from the bed, taking her keys from the nightstand and grabbing her shoes. She couldn’t understand… she… yesterday, she had said she felt it too… they had kissed about four times… and no time had it seemed wrong… no time had she felt rejected… no time had she forced her… it made no sense for the younger one to say no…

So why?

“No it’s… it’s not your fault.” Seohyun stood up, standing just in front of her.

“I... I don’t know what to say.” Yoona said, her heart clenching and unclenching. “Just… Why not? Yesterday you… you said you felt the same…”

“We’re just not meant to be.” Seohyun replied simply. “We never will.”

Yoona just stared at Seohyun with a perplex expression. What was that supposed to mean?

“But you do feel the same or were you… were you lying?” Yoona couldn’t imagine Seohyun lying to her, she really couldn’t… but what else could she think of?

“No, I… don’t feel like that about you, I’m sorry.” Seohyun said, but her eyes diverted to the floor, not daring to look at Yoona in the eyes.

Yoona placed a hand on the younger one’s chin, bringing her up to look at her in the face.

“Say it again.” Yoona whispered, her voice breaking softly. “Please look me in the eye when you say this.”

Seohyun opened , her eyes glued to Yoona’s, she closed it and repeated that several times.

“I…” She started, but was unable to say anything else.

“Just say you don’t love me, I’ll leave you alone once you say it, I promise.” Yoona blinked away the tears that were forming on her eyes.

“I…” Seohyun started again. “I shouldn’t.”

“You shouldn’t say it?” Yoona pressed on, wanting to know.

“No, it’s not that.” Seohyun replied simply.

“I don’t get it.” Yoona said, she let go of Seohyun’s face.

She couldn’t handle the horrible that was rushing through her body, it was something she had never felt before… well, she had never been rejected so she gets that.

Another rush of the same feeling ran all over her body and finally rested where she her heart supposedly was. A trail of tears fell on her face then.

“I’ll… I’ll just leave, you… you don’t have to come over next Friday, you’re free don’t worry.” She said quickly, she wiped her tears and smiled forcedly at Seohyun. “Just… I’ll send over something for your birthday on Saturday…I hope you don’t mind it.”

“Yoona…” Seohyun whispered, her hand holding onto Yoona’s arm, stopping the latter from going.

“I…” Seohyun started once again. Yoona stared at her expectantly, both of their gazes glued deeply. “I…am sorry.” She finally said, her gaze still glued to her face.

“I never would’ve thought you’d lie to me like that.” Yoona murmured.

“I… didn’t lie.” Seohyun replied, her grip tightening on Yoona’s arm. “I’m sorry because I love you, but I shouldn’t love you.”

Yoona just stared at Seohyun with wide eyes.

“Why?” Yoona asked. “I love you too, then why shouldn’t you love me?”

“I told you…we’re not meant to be. You’re meant to be with someone with the same background as you… I’m… I’m just a stripper.” Seohyun said, her eyes drowning in sadness.

“I don’t want anyone else.” She replied with ease. “I want you.” She brushed Seohyun’s hair with a hand. “For me you’ll never be just a stripper.”

“But-” Before Seohyun could continue her sentence, Yoona had leaned in and kissed her, her lips moving ever so slowly, just aiming to calm Seohyun down and to prove her point.

“I love you and I’m not ashamed of you.” Yoona said between kisses. She then leaned out, her lips still grazing Seohyun’s with every move. “I introduced you to my friends, I introduced you to my parents and eventually I’ll let the whole world know you’re mine and I’m yours.” She leaned in and pecked Seohyun’s lips slightly.

“I’ll let you think about everything, think about us.” Yoona said, her eyes still a bit teary, she still felt rejected. “Come over on Friday at any time you want, you tell me your answer then... if you don’t come, I’ll just assume you said no.” She leaned in and kissed Seohyun’s cheek. “See you later or maybe not.”

Seohyun watched as Yoona retreaded slowly, their eyes meeting briefly and the younger one felt like crying while watching Yoona’s sad and rejected eyes before she left the place.

If she couldn’t handle those eyes now… maybe she shouldn’t even go on Friday at all.

“Was I imagining things or was that Yoona stepping out of your room?” Tiffany said as she entered her room, her body wrapped in a y pajama, hair in a messy bun and thick frame glasses on.

“Yes, that was Yoona leaving my room.” Seohyun replied shyly.

“Oh… did something steamy happen in here? Should I not sit on your bed until you wash the sheets?” The American Korean girl said while she moved her eyebrows suggestively at the younger girl.

“You can sit down with no worries.” Seohyun said as she sat down on her bed, a small blush on her cheeks from the comment the older woman had made, yet she couldn’t help but feel sad that she… she just broke Im Yoona’s heart, one of the most beautiful hearts she had ever seen and she… she ripped it into pieces.

“What happened?” Asked Tiffany while sitting down next to her. Seohyun just leaned her head on her shoulder and wrapped her arms around her waist, wanting to feel the comfort only Tiffany and Taeyeon were able to give her… all until Yoona came in the picture.

“Hey, why was Yoona leaving the house with the expression of a dog who was scolded?” Said Taeyeon as she entered the room too. “She really has very big eyes.” Taeyeon said as an afterthought as she sat on Seohyun’s side.

“She asked me to be her girlfriend.” Seohyun said, hoping Taeyeon wouldn’t get mad at Yoona.

“She did? That brat lied…. she told me she’ll do it on your birthday.” Taeyeon said while shaking her head.

“What? You… you knew?” Asked Seohyun, lifting her face immediately and turning to look at Taeyeon with wide eyes.

“Why so surprised?” Taeyeon said teasingly. “Although now I feel bad… from her expression I can tell you rejected her, and I was the one who eagered her on.” As if possible, Seohyun’s eyes turned wider. “She told me you kissed her, and I really thought you liked her…”

Seohyun now blushed.

“She told you I kissed her?” Seohyun asked a bit alarmed, Taeyeon just nodded.

“Why did you rejected her?” Asked Tiffany. “Don’t you dare say didn’t like her or something cause we know you, you wouldn’t have kissed her if you didn’t like her, and you have been so happy these past Fridays when you were with her.”

“We don’t belong.” Seohyun answered simply, her eyes falling into sadness. “He background is too different from mine, I don’t want to risk her prestige or something for me.”

“That’s ridiculous.” Taeyeon replied simply. “Tiffany and I were from completely different backgrounds, an American girl that lived the great life in America and once she got to Korea realized how her father made money… and I used to work for her father.” She turned to look at Tiffany and both of them smiled as their eyes met and Seohyun suddenly felt like a third wheel. “She used to be straight and to hate me and my guts, WE were completely different, no one would’ve thought we’d get together and look at us… almost ten years together.”

Seohyun stared ahead, not daring to look into their eyes at all.

“Yoona is not ashamed of you.” Tiffany said. “You didn’t hear this from us… but she’s preparing something special for your birthday.”

“And for it she had to talk to her parents about you, everything that involved you.” Taeyeon continued. “They know how you two met, they know what you work at, yesterday’s dinner was just because they wanted to know you.”

“But… they asked me so many questions, like they didn’t know me…” She whispered, she was so so confused right now.

“She told them to act like that, so you weren’t embarrassed and felt comfortable during dinner.” Tiffany said; her hand placed on Seohyun’s shoulder, rubbing it softly.

“That girl has worked her off to make you feel comfortable and… you didn’t hear this from me either.” Taeyeon said before she took a deep breath. “She helped me beat up the guy that tried to hurt you the other day.”

Seohyun and Tiffany turned in Taeyeon’s direction and frowned at her.

“I’m sorry for not telling you baby.” Taeyeon said while she looked at Tiffany. She then turned to Seohyun. “She really really likes you or loves you or whatever she told you she feels for you.”

“I rejected her… but she told me to think about it, that I should come over to her apartment on Friday, so we could talk about it.” Seohyun just lowered her gaze.

“Well, then think about it.” Tiffany said.

“Yeah, look, if you don’t like her enough to get over the fact that you come from different backgrounds… maybe you really should reject her, because she’ll be giving you her everything all the time… and you wouldn’t be able to reciprocate.” Taeyeon said, standing up and taking Tiffany hand in hers, pulling her up too. “We’ll make breakfast, come out when you´re ready, okay?.” She leaned down and kissed the top of her head, Tiffany then leaned down and kissed her cheek.

“We love you, okay sweetie? And we’ll support any decision you make.” Tiffany eye-smiled at her and then left along with Taeyeon the room.

Seohyun just stayed there, her heart told her to go for it but her brain told her that it was wrong. What should she do? The brain is the logical one… she should listen to it but rather than feeling like she’ll do the right thing… she feels so wrong.

Yoona walked around her apartment anxiously, it was already Friday and she had been awake since six a.m., just in case Seohyun wanted to come early to talk… but now, it was 11:30 p.m. and there was no sign of the younger girl.

She decided to sit down on the couch, memories of the times the younger had danced for her replied slowly, along with the talks they had together there… it all seemed so far away right now, they had come a long way… but it all crashed once she decided to open and ask her to be her girlfriend… but how could she not want to ask if she had fallen so deep? And how could she not try if Seohyun loved her back?

Maybe that was what hurt the most… the fact that they both feel the same, yet the thing that stops them from being together is that Seohyun is scared.

What she didn’t know was that the younger one was standing in front of her door, wondering if she should knock or if she should leave.

Yoona went to the kitchen and checked the hour in the digital clock that was hanging on the wall.

00:03

Yoona’s eyes lost all hope and she just smiled bitterly. She headed to the fridge and grabbed some cold beers. She knew she needed something stronger to ease out the pain, but she didn’t feel in the mood to go out.

She went back to the living room and sat down on the couch, drinking half of the beer in one go, she was starting to drink the other half when she heard a knock.

“It’s open!” She exclaimed loudly, it could be a robber for all she knew, but she didn’t care right now. Right now she felt numb.

The door opened slowly and she didn’t even glance in that direction; just finished her first beer before she opened a second one and drank from it.

“Ah… Hello.” She heard a small voice call her, she turned around only to find Seohyun standing there, awkwardly while she smiled forcedly at her.

“Oh, umm… Hey.” Replied Yoona as awkwardly, they stayed there, staring at each other with no idea what to say for a few minutes.

“Umm… Happy birthday.” Murmured Yoona as she stood up.

“Thank you…” Replied Seohyun, diverting her gaze from hers.

“You can sit down you know.” Yoona said simply, chuckling nervously in a failed attempt to erase the awkwardness, she realized it didn’t work so she just cleared . “Do you… do you want something to drink?” Asked Yoona, smiling tightly at the tall girl that seemed to find the bottles of beer she left on the table more interesting.

She just sat down and shook her head softly. Yoona nodded then and sat down next to her, taking the beer she had previously opened and taking one big gulp from it, hoping it would help her relax a little bit.

But she knew what was coming, Seohyun had come to her apartment but on Saturday, it was an indirect statement, she was rejecting her subtly, but she wanted to face it or maybe she just felt pity for her… she wasn’t sure about that, but she was sure she was going to be rejected.

So she decided to give her the birthday gift she had planned instead of bringing out the other subject. She reached for her pocket, bringing out a small envelop and she handed it to Seohyun.

“Happy birthday, Seohyun.” She said and the younger one shook her head.

“I’m sorry, I can’t accept this.” Seohyun said shyly, staring deeply into Yoona’s tired and sad eyes as she did so, she felt even guiltier.

“Whether you take it or not, the gift is yours.” Yoona replied simply.

Seohyun hesitantly reached for it, her hand trembling under Yoona’s unfocused stare. She slowly opened it before she took out its content; it was a small piece of paper.

Seohyun read the contents of the letter once, twice, thrice and she couldn’t believe it. She just couldn’t.

“Yoona… this is… this is too much. I can’t accept it.” Seohyun said with her eyes slightly wide. “A scholarship? Really?”

“Yes, really.” Yoona responded simply. “It doesn’t cost me money, I don’t know why you think it’s too much.”

“Here it says IK incorporated is giving me the scholarship… that’s your company.”

“No it isn’t, it’s my parents’ company.” Yoona replied simply.

“It’s the same thing.” Seohyun replied simply, her gaze fixed on Yoona. “I’m sure you’re the one behind this anyway.”

“Well, yeah I am but, look, this is my gift so please accept it.” Yoona said simply. “This is a great opportunity for you to finally get away from that life you dislike so much, it’ll be your opportunity to learn more from your field of work, gain experience and to focus more on school. It’s an opportunity for a fresh start, a new life style. A life away from erted men and everything being a stripper involves.”

Seohyun lowered her gaze as this left Yoona’s lips.

“I love you Seohyun, I wanted to give you this opportunity because I know that if there’s someone in this life that deserves it, that’s you.” Yoona said. “I’m not giving you this to force you to be with me, I would never want you to do something you don’t want to do.” Yoona continued. “You’re far too important to me to force you to do something you don’t want.”

Seohyun felt a rush of electricity ran all over her body, Yoona was just… just too much. She then launched herself at Yoona hugging her tightly.

“Thank you… thank you so much.” Whispered Seohyun against Yoona’s shoulder, all kinds of feelings were crowding her right now. She just felt unbelievably great and it was thanks to Im Yoona that she did.

“It’s nothing.” Replied Yoona, she breathed in Seohyun’s scent and drowned in the feeling of the hug.

Seohyun leaned away slightly from the hug, their gazed meeting, connecting and then Seohyun knew. Seohyun knew she’d never feel this good in anyone’s arms but Yoona’s and that although her brain told her over and over again that this wasn’t the best, she could hear the loud pleas of her heart clearer.

She started leaning in unconsciously, until Yoona stopped her.

“Don’t kiss me if you don’t mean it.” The older one said. “Don’t kiss me unless you can assure me it’s because you’re willing to give us a try, I’d rather not kiss your lips if it was just to get my hopes up and then crushed again.”

Seohyun just gave her a sincere but small smile.

“I’m willing to give us a try.” She answered and before Yoona could recover from the shock she had leaned in a kissed her lips briefly.

“I love you Im Yoona.” She whispered with her lips brushing against Yoona’s, the latter just felt like she was dreaming, she never would’ve thought this would actually happen.

“I… I love you too Seo Joohyun.” Yoona said with a small smile on her features. “Do you… do you want to be my girlfriend?” She asked, she couldn’t help but feel slightly insecure although the younger one had just told her she was willing to do it.

“Of course.” Seohyun said with a bright yet shy smile before she hugged Yoona tightly once again, Yoona smiled brightly at this.

She wouldn’t change her for anybody; she wouldn’t change her stripper for anything. She didn’t want anything or anybody else.

She wanted the stripper, she wanted Seo Joohyun, she wanted Seohyun.

She just wanted her and nothing else.
