Chapter Two

Baekhyun

"Noona!  Can you bring me lunch tomorrow?  The one you made during Roommate please?  Which one?  My favorite one...  Ah, you will?  Yaaaaaaaaaaa!  Thank you so much noona!  You're the best!"

Baekhyun rolled his eyes and shook his head at Chanyeol, his best friend.  They were in their dorm room together getting ready for sleep.  At this, Baekhyun rolled over to his side, feeling grumpy.  Well, he's been trying to get ready for sleep anyways.

'For the past hour and a half.'  The vocalist thought bitterly.  Their room light was off but Chanyeol kept his lamp on near his bed and it was distracting.  Baekhyun wasn't just only unable to sleep because of the light.  Oh no.

That would be too simple.

Baekhyun couldn't sleep because Chanyeol was literally fanboying over his cell phone talking to a certain 2NE1 member.  Again, he heard Chanyeol squeal.  A groan escaped the vocalist and he covered his ears using his pillow.  "Yah!  Chan-ah!  Shut up and go to bed!"  He yelled in vain.  Chanyeol, looking over his shoulder, rolled his eyes and continued to talk on the phone.  "Can you not see that it is now almost one o'clock in the morning!?"  He yelled, covering his ears some more.  Baekhyun heard Chanyeol hiss his way.

"Be quiet and stop interfering with other people's business."  The vocalist was immediately taken aback by the dangerous tone Chanyeol had used in his voice.

"M-MWOH!?"  Angry, Baekhyun went to his knees on his bed and threw a pillow at Chanyeol who defended himself with ease and gave Baekhyun a fierce look.  A feral growl escaped the vocalists lips in return.  "Then you should take your business out of this room!  I want to sleep!"  Baekhyun grit his teeth together, trying to reason out with his friend.  The two were both irritated with each other.  They held a stare off and Baekhyun was confident he would win this.

He always won.

However, his skin crawled the moment Chanyeol glared at him, eyes pitch black.  They looked like the depth of a black hole and the 23 year old couldn't help but blink.

It was a warning.

"I'm talking to Bom-noona right now."  Chanyeol growled, covering the speaker of his phone with his hand.  "And if you don't like it, I really don't care.  You can stay awake.  I'm comfortable talking here to noona and I'm not moving."  With that said, the rapper barred his teeth and then released his hand from the speaker of his phone and continued to talk to Bom as if nothing ever happened.  Chanyeol went back to smiling and talking.  Baekhyun just sat there, completely agape.

'Wh-what just ing happened?'  He wondered to himself.  'That wasn't Chanyeol.  No way was that Chanyeol!'  Baekhyun said to himself, slowly starting to lay down on his bed.  The man just stared at the taller male, feeling smaller and lesser than usual.  The vocalist couldn't help but feel a slight twinge in his heart with just watching Chanyeol glow with each passing second.

A thought hit him.

Had Chanyeol always looked so happy?

Baekhyun pursed his lips and watched as Chanyeol listened to Bom talk now.  He was surprised to find how bright his best friend's face became with each passing second.  Baekhyun was, as of this moment, 100% sure that Chanyeol had never looked happier.  Another twinge in his heart stabbed at him and although Baekhyun wanted to be genuinely happy for Chanyeol's joy, a small part of him felt suddenly lost.

There was a weight on his shoulders that he realized had been there for a while.  Minutes ticked by and Baekhyun continued to watch Chanyeol talk to Bom.  There were things he spotted now that he hadn't noticed before and the older male felt like Chanyeol had been happy like this for a while.  The way his best friend's lips twitched upwards every time Bom was speaking, the tone of his voice Chanyeol had whenever he talked into his phone.  Baekhyun never noticed how whenever Chanyeol talked about his Roommate experience, a little color would always gather in his cheeks.  His brows furrowed confused.  'Why is he acting so strange?'

"Haha!  Noona!  Don't remind me of that!  Ah, I'm so embarrassed now!"  Chanyeol's low voice laughed softly, he brought a hand to his chin and held it there.  Baekhyun saw the pink collect more in Chanyeol's cheeks.  The EXO vocalist suddenly gasped as a light bulb went off in his head.

Realization came to him.

Chanyeol was growing up.

Their Chanyeol was slipping away.

Maybe not now.  And maybe not for a long time.  But Baekhyun was sure of it.  Slowly, his best friend was growing up and growing more...  More...  More...

A stiff smile landed on Baekhyun's face once he heard Chanyeol squeal again into the phone.  Blowing the extra fringes in his view, Baekhyun turned around to face the wall and close his eyes.  'Just this once I'll suffer through his squealing, just this once.'  Baekhyun sighed out loud and tugged his blanket closer to him.  Doing his best to block out his friend's voice, Baekhyun felt the sudden weight on his shoulders finally solidify.  And it hurt him a little, to be honest.

Chanyeol was growing up.

He was slowly slipping away.

Baekhyun was losing a friend.

A friend who was happier these days.  

Chanyeol was fal—

"WHAT!!  NOONA!  DONG-WOOK HYUNG DID WHAT!?"

Baekhyun growled, suddenly irritated at the loudness.

"YAH!  CHAN-AH!  SHUT UP ALREADY!  IT'S ALMOST ONE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!"
