Chapter 1: The Ex Queen
Her World All Alone
She didn’t know it was law to hang out with her friends all the time. It just wasn’t in her nature. The parties, the drinks, the people; they didn’t call her attention no matter how many of them she was offered. Silence, peace, the bliss she found by herself, whether it be reading or just thinking, that’s what she liked.
She wasn’t the type to depend on people even though friends are there to depend on. Trust. That was her issue. The friends you make today, how sure they’ll be there for you tomorrow.
She grimaced as she watched a group of first years giggle together. All huddled up like they were sharing secrets. Oh the innocence-how it doesn’t last. Not in this hell.
She noticed one small girl sneaking glances at a boy across the yard. He, completely oblivious, for his eyes were trained on the animated girl in the group, her laughter ringing through the air as he got up. She followed him as he walked up to the group, arms snaking around the small girl’s waist, having her eyes fill with relief but his not on hers. She continued to watch as he said hello to the group, eyes fixated on the one in the middle and her eyes on him too. Ahh so that’s how it is. It’ll break sooner then.
Having enough of the fake friendship that was bound to break, her bag swished with her steps as she pushed pass the group of girls, not forgetting to roll her eyes at the boy as she muttered cheater under her breath.
“yah-” the boy’s words were cut off when his “girlfriend” nudged him. Turning herself around, an eyebrow raised, she waited for the boy to continue.
He was still glaring but now to the girl beside him. “Shh! Don’t you know who that is?!” the girl shrieked while her eyes panicked as she looked at the older girl and towards her “boyfriend”.
“She’s Bae Suzy” it was the girl in the middle now who voiced.
The group quieted down. The boy’s eyes widened at the mention of the former queen of Seoul University of Performing Arts name
“N-neh, sunbae! We apologize. Didn’t mean to get in your way” They girls bowed.
Without a glance, Suzy turned back around and continued on her way.
“Yah! Are you crazy?”
“You mean to tell me that she was the one that----”
Suzy plopped in her headphones, drowning out the boy.
It was always like this. Suzy was numb to the glances and whispers of her. It became a part of her now. And besides she didn’t have anyone to talk to about them. Her so called friends, where were they now?
Hmm probably in the cafeteria. Aish now I’m hungry.
One last detour before class she told herself. Suzy cut across the green, crunching leaves in her process. It was autumn now. Her favorite season.
The cafeteria had bunches of students eating, chatting, and doing homework. She wandered off to the grill and ordered a burger. She didn’t care anymore about maintaining her image. Hell if I want a burger, I will have my burger! She continued to watch people as she waited for her food. She could see them. Anyone and everyone can see them. There’re pretty hard to miss. She knew they saw her walk in but none made the attempt to walk over and say hi. Scoffing Suzy looked over to the groups of students looking at her ex-friends and back at her. If only you knew. Stare all you want.
Thanking the man, Suzy takes her burger and water. Passing by “her” old group. Their hard looks grazing her back. She stops for a moment, facing the group and lifts her bottle. Breaths are held. She smiles a smile that made each one of her “friends” flinch. Her voice was hard
“Long may you reign. And when you fall, well- I hope you find the ground much colder than I”
And with that she was gone. Everybody began to breathe again. Yet the group sat still, eyes on the new Queen. She looked to the doors her best friend went through. Each one knew that they made her like this. Suzy was the one that took her in, made her feel a part of something, but greed took over her. Grabbing her purse, she stands up and leaves. Calls were shouted out for her. But the only thing she could hear was Suzy’s voice
I will never go back. I can’t. And I won’t.
