Chapter 6

Dark Side of the Moon

Hongbin’s POV

The knife pressed into Suji’s neck, and she swallowed roughly in an attempt to dispel her fear. Sehun grinned.

“Nice and obedient now that your girlfriend here is in danger, huh?”

“I would never be with someone like them,” she spat out, forgetting the situation for a split second before pulling back as the cold metal bit into her skin. Her eyes continued to glare daggers in our direction. Sehun threw his head back, releasing an ugly laugh, and before anyone could react, his fingers were on Suji’s cheek. He dragged them slowly along her jaw, a look of utter amazement on his face.

“I have never met anyone like you,” he whispered lowly, but loud enough so that we could hear it. His fingers buried themselves in Suji’s hair, and he suddenly jerked her head back. “You my friend,” he hissed, “are a hypocrite. How can you hate their kind when you are one of them?” Suji whimpered at his proximity, eyes beginning to roll back in fear. Sehun laughed bitterly before leisurely walking away from Suji and towards us. As he approached, his finger gestured lazily at the girl restrained behind him. “Dispose of that trash, Chanyeol.” That was the beginning of the the end. The knife began to emit a soft blue glow that though very subtle, burned the eyes. “Beautiful, isn’t it?” asked Sehun. “Had to kill a priest or two to get that. It’s enchanted, if a demon is hurt he won’t regenerate.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Or I guess it’s a she this time, huh? Makes no difference to me.” As a pearl of copper slid down Suji’s throat, I felt too late the stiffening of N’s muscles. Which meant that now I had to deal with the aftermath.

As the normally subtle tattoos on N's  arms spiraled up to wrap a tendril around his neck, Sehun suddenly found that his half-open shirt was on fire. After putting out the flame, he turned around to make sure Chanyeol had done his job, only to see the giant out cold on the ground. A ring of fire separated the shorter brown-haired demon from N who was holding an unconscious Suji. I shot him a look.

“Look,” he muttered. “Did you expect me to stand by and do nothing?”

“You could have handled that better.”

            “Better how?”

“For example, you could have chosen not to set people on fire.”

“But Binnnnnnnieeeee,” he whined slightly. I shook my head at him.

“Just be happy I’m not going to set Leo on you later.” N walked back to us, Suji draped elegantly over his arms. Unfortunately, when they walked by a stupefied Sehun, we discovered that Suji was in fact no longer unconscious but wide awake. And we discovered this via the method of Suji’s foot which shot out unexpectedly to clip Sehun’s jaw and knock him to the ground. That seemed to be enough of a stimulant to wake him from his shocked state, and he leapt to his feet, fists balled tightly.

I heard a thud accompanied by the sound of shattered glass come from behind me as Leo went flying into the nearest building, which happened to be Ken’s favorite pastry shop. Ken gasped in despair as Sehun reappeared, dusting his hands in a very pleased manner over the nearest trashcan. He turned to his partner, and whispered, “Yehet.”

This time, it was Sehun who went flying with the aid of a very angry Ken. If there was one thing you had to learn about Ken, it was that you should never, ever mess with ken and food. Ever. Leo would happily back him on this, and it was clear that he would this time as he stumbled out of the shop, wiping icing off his nose. His eyes scanned the street, before landing on the nearest lightpost. He calmly walked over to it, ripped it out of the ground wires and all, and walked over to Sehun, proceeding to beat the out of him for approximately the next two and a half minutes. Once he decided the demon was sufficiently bloody, he came to stand behind me as if nothing had happened. Sehun’s dark haired friend had made no move whatsoever the entire time, but winced every so often. When Sehun simply lay there, unable to move but a finger, he walked over, slung the boy over his shoulder, grabbed the second one’s hand, and flashed away as if they had never been there in the first place. Behind me, the other six began to jabber away about what to do with Ji-hyo and Taehee while Suji stood over them protectively. The street had been absolutely trashed. Scorch marks ran alongside the curb on the far side of the street, and ice melted and dripped off the rooftops behind it. The lightpost lay discarded like an old toy, part of it stuck inside a gutter, and part of it colored an unnatural red color. The window of the pastry shop was beyond repair, and pieces of cake were still stuck to Leo’s hair and back. Occasionally they fell off, leaving a trail sweets to where we were standing. Where Chanyeol had hit the ground, the ground had fractured, leaving a perfect circle of demolished cement from which tiny hairbreadth cracks ran in every direction. I rubbed my temples.

Ji-hyo POV

The first thing I noticed when I came to, was that I was most definitely not home. The second was that I felt like pure and utter crap. In attempt to stop the pounding, I pressed both hands over my ears and buried my head into the blanket. I couldn’t help but take a deep breath as I did so; the blanket smelled very nice, calming, and vaguely familiar. I took in the faint smell of lavender and mint, feeling the pain recede a bit. I pulled the corner of the blanket down, blinking as my face became exposed the the strong natural sunlight that flooded the room from large windows. The bedroom I was in was decorated in a tasteful monochrome color scheme that was completely contradicted by large, homely bookshelves in both corners. A stack of books balanced precariously on the corner of a desk, their colors the only vibrant thing in the room. My feet sank into a soft, long-stranded carpet as I stood up. My clothes had not changed from yesterday, a black tanktop layered on top of gray skinny jeans. Hesitantly, I opened the door a crack, jumping backwards with a yell when I came face to face with Leo. He sat in a half curled position opposite my door, staring at his phone. His hair hung over his face giving it a dark, shadowed look that had terrified me before I recognized him. Other than a quickly glance, he didn’t react to my scream, and went back to doing god knows what on his phone. I stared. The pattering of feet brought me back to reality.

“Ji-hyo?” mumbled a very sleepy looking Hongbin. “What happened? I heard you scream.” Bags hung under his eyes, and his eyes slid over me blearily several times before focusing. I blushed, realizing I had probably woken him up.

“I uh, hadn’t expected Leo to be sitting there, and it uh, I guess it scared me?” the last part of the sentence ended with a question because I was honestly unsure of the reason myself. Hongbin rubbed his eyes and I turned to head back into the room, maybe sleep some more. It suddenly occurred to me that I had no idea what I was doing here or how I had gotten here. I was about to ask him exactly what had happened, but suddenly felt a warmth envelop me from behind. Hongbin’s hands wrapped around my waist, and I suddenly recognized the minty lavender scent from earlier.

“W-what are you doing?” I stuttered, trying to unclasp the arms that held me in a deathgrip to his chest.

“Shhh,” he muttered. His proximity sent shivers down my back. “Since I gave my room to you, I had to share with Ravi, and he snores. So I haven’t gotten any sleep.” His chin came down to rest on top of my head, and a quiet snore abruptly escaped his mouth. Had he really fallen asleep on me?

“Hongbin,” I called, elbowing him lightly. He didn’t respond, but murmured something under his breath. “Hongbin?” I called again, this time louder. When he remained asleep, I jabbed an elbow in his gut. He ignored it. “Oy!” I whacked him and one of his eyes opened. He gave me an odd look, before forcibly picking me up and taking me with him into the room. As we reached the bed, he practically collapsed on top of me. With some difficulty, I managed to push him to the side, but his arm remained draped over my hips. “Hongbin, can you let me up?” I asked when I failed for what seemed to be the fifth time to unclasp his fingers from me.

“It’s your fault that I couldn’t sleep. The least you can do is provide it to me now. Now stop talking,” he grumbled in my ear.

“Hey, what is that supposed to mean?” I shouted, but he had already fallen asleep. After some time, I had to give up on getting out of the situation. And the warmth really did feel nice... Without realizing it, I had fallen asleep alongside him.
