Plot: MC is a man whose wife died from childbirth recently, child survived

Feels resentful towards his daughter for the death of his beloved

Daughter sent to live with maternal grandparents for father is depressed

Grandfather dies a couple months later from heart attack

11  years pass, grandmother passes away

Daughter is sent to her father who grudingly allows her to live with him

MC is in terrible shape still, down alcohol like water and smokes

Daughter gradually breaks his shell, taking care of a father she never knew

Father is overwhelmed by her kindness, similar to her mother

Daughter soon develops a cough, is taken to a doctor due to it being rather severe and long lasting

Doctor reveals she has asthma and MC's smoking aggravates her asthma

MC struggles to quite smoking but still drinks

Daughter persuades him to stop and be sober when he hits a teenage girl while drunk

After accident, MC takes a full time job as a pawnbroker

One day, after a purchase, MC is polishing some antique handguns and forgets to store them

A young boy nabs one of them and pretends to play cowboys and Indians, daughter is walking with her father after shift

Gun fires but riccochets straight into the daughter, she's killed instantly

MC is distraught and grief-stricken once more, falling into the same cycle of drinking and smoking

This doesn't have an ounce of happiness in here. I'm so sorry. But I really feel a story like this would be tremendous. Because guess what? Bad things happen to good people. Like poor MC here.
