Goodbye

Skinny Love

Naeun stood in front of her bare bedroom door and smiled one last time before turning away. She felt her heart ache as she walked down the stairs where her parents were waiting for her. She saw their lips tugged in a smile and could tell they were sad about her leaving.

"Ready?" Her dad's calm voice asked her. Naeun nodded her head and was the first to leave the house. She made sure she didn't look back at her house otherwise she wouldn't leave.

Naeun sat in the back of the car on the right side and rested her head on the window, glancing at the passing scenery of Seoul. Street's she memorized, shops she's been to thousands of times before. School's she's attended and that one apartment building that seemed to make her heart ache. She saw the blinds down from where she was and she just had to smile imagining Minhyuk doing his work until she realized that he left.

Naeun closed her eyes as she thought of him. She remembered that day she had to tell to him that she leaving. How the sadness in his eyes made her heart ache and how his voice sounded as he told her he, himself, had to leave to visit his grandfather back in Incheon because he had fallen ill. She puffed out her cheeks as she tried to maintain her emotions.

"We're here, honey," Her mothers voice rang through her ears. Naeun got out of the car and she went to the trunk where her dad was already unpacking her suitcases, placing them on the pavement at the busy airport. She saw families rushing in and out of their cars and through the automatic doors. Couples saying their small goodbyes before leaving. She turned her head away from the views and looked at her parents who stood in front of her with a small smile.

"Take care when you're there, okay?" Her dad pulled her in for a hug.

"I will," She mumbled as she felt her dad pull away from her and her mother wrapping her arms around her.

"Call us when you land and when you make it to your aunt's house, please," She placed a kiss on Naeun's temple and pulled away from the hug. She looked at her daughter and smiled. "Do good in school. Don't fall behind on your studies. Be healthy, eat your meals and don't forget to put lotion on yourself otherwise your skin will become dry-"

"I will, Mom," She said, interrupting her mothers rambling. "I should go and check in now," Naeun grabbed the handle of her suitcase and gripped her backpack in her other hand.

"Okay. Make sure to have fun, though!" Her father reminded her with a smile on his face. Naeun nodded her head and turned around and made her way inside of the airport.

Hundreds of people came passing by her as she made her way towards her gate to check in. She couldn't help but hope to see him here. A piece in her heart was aching to see him waiting for her. To tell her don't leave because they could work out. But, in all honesty, she knew they wouldn't.

She walked towards the baggage check-in, and began to give her luggage to the woman who worked there. Naeun gave her a smile and gave her her two suitcases.

"Is this all for you?" The attendant asked her. "Any carry ons today?"

"Just those two suitcases for me," Naeun gave her a smile and took out her wallet. "Would my purse be considered a carry-on?" Naeun's voice was unsure now that she thought of her purse.

"Your purse is considered a "free bag" for the flight." She explained to her and Naeun nodded her head and took out her money and handed them to the lady. Naeun gave her one last smile before she took her wallet and placed it in her light pink, leather shoulder bag.

Naeun turned around and bumped into someone's chest. Stumbling backwards, Naeun looked up and her eyes widened as she met eyes with Minhyuk. Her heart stopped for quick second as she looked at him. "Be careful," His gentle voice chidded her as he placed an arm around her waist. "Do you have time to chat before you leave?"

Narun nodded her head and followed Minhyuk as he lead her to the Starbucks in the airport. She sat down by the window and waited for him to come back with their orders. She took out her phone began to reply to the messages her friends sent her, telling her to have fun while she studied abroad and to not forget them. A small smile danced its way across her face as she sent her last reply. She placed her phone on the table and a hand came in front of her with her grande Caramel Frappe.

She looked up and saw Minhyuk who had a smile on his face. She took the drink from his hand. Minhyuk sat down on the chair in front of her. He placed his iced caramel Americano on the table in front of him. He looked at Naeun who quietly drank her drink.

"Yoon Naeun," Minhyuk's soft voice caught her attention. She felt her heart race inside her chest. She let out a small yes and continued to drink her drink. "I really do love you," he confessed. "With all of my heart, I do love you. But, since you're leaving and going to study abroad."

"You don't think we'll make it," she looked up and met eyes with Minhyuk who just gave her a weak smile. Naeun nodded her head. "I understand you," Naeun let out a small sigh.

"I hope you find someone you love and care for as much as your heart allows you to," he let out a small, sad chuckle. "I hope you succeed in school and life. I also hope to see you soon." He looked at Naeun who looked away from him. He could see her tears fall and he felt his heart shatter.

"I have to go," Naeun stood up and looked at Minhyuk with a sad smile. "Before I miss my flight," she added as she grabbed her purse and drink then began to walk out of the shop, wiping her tears away.

"Yoon Naeun," Minhyuk called after her, making her stop in her tracks. Minhyuk jogged over towards her as a few poeple stopped and silently watched the two.

Naeun bit her bottom lip and watched as he came closer towards her. Her body froze as Minhyuk wound his arms around her, pulling her closer to him. Her head was buried in his chest as she inhaled his minty scent. She closed her eyes and allowed her tears to fall. She wrapped her arms around his body, hugging him back.

"I love you, Lee Minhyuk," Naeun let out a heart wrenching sob that made him cry. "I don't know how I'll be like without you when I leave," she felt Minhyuk's grip around her tighten as she spoke. "I want you to be happy."

Minhyuk rocked her from side to side, doing his best to sooth a crying Naeun who seemed to have an endless supply of tears. Minhyuk buried his head in her hair and inhaled her sweet, lavender scent he grew to love. "This isn't the goodbye that I imagined today," Minhyuk chuckled. "I just wanted to tell you to call me when you land and keep me updated but now we're both crying messes."

Naeun couldn't help but laugh at his words. She nodded her head and Minhyuk pulled apart from her and wiped away her tears. "I'm sorry," she said.

"Flight 45C for California is now boarding," the announcer spoke. "Flight 45c for California is now boarding."

"I have to go," She let go of Minhyuk and turned around to see a small crowd of people standing around them. Naeun couldn't help but flush red at the sight. She saw a few of them had their phones out and had captured everything. She held onto her drink tighter as she took one step. Before she could take another one, she felt Minhyuk grab onto her left wrist, making her turn to see him. She cocked her head to the side and looked at him, curious as to why he had grabbed her.

Minhyuk pulled her closer towards him and bent down, and placed a small kiss on her forehead. "I'll see you soon, Naeun," he smiled at her before he let go of her hand. "Go before you miss your flight." He gently pushed her away and waved as he watched her leave.
