I wasn’t able to sleep that night.

How could I sleep?

I was instantly engaged when I had no intention in the first place! Plus my parents went to my house to congratulate me. I was in a state of shock because everything happened so fast. I wasn’t able to talk. We all went to Sora’s family at an ungodly hour of the night. More congratulatory messages from everyone, except from her father who was currently in the hospital, and the next thing I knew, we were looking at wedding preparations.

“Uhm, do we have to do this now?” I asked when the wedding arranger came and started explaining things that gave me a headache.

“All of these are already prepared dear,” my mother said “we’re just going to finalize things so everything will be perfect for your wedding next month.”

“NEXT MONTH!?”  I shouted with surprise as I stood up.

They all looked at me questioningly.

“I don’t want to get married! It was all just a misunderstanding!” I wanted to shout, but the look on Sora’s face was unbearable.

I haven’t seen her being so happy like when she saw the ring. She immediately called her parents afterwards which lead us all in this situation. I wanted to clear up things but there was no other explanation why I had an engagement ring on my table. We spent the entire night with the preparations. All I did was nod and force a smile.

I came in late for work the next day, feeling all groggy and sleepy.

“Congratulations Mr. Park!” I was greeted with all sorts of greetings when I entered the building.

Was the engagement included in the morning memo already?

“Jungsoo,” Sora came in my office that morning “you’re late,” she said, but in a worried tone “are you feeling well? You don’t look fine…”

“I’m okay,” I gave a smile and she smiled back.

She seemed convinced and went on with business. Sora piled up lots of paperwork on me with urgent deadlines. I asked why so many and she said that those would be delivered to the hospital for the signatures of her father.

“Seriously?” I stopped in the middle of scanning through the documents.

“Why? His signature is always needed in our documents.”

“Well, don’t you think he should be resting for faster recovery? And uhm, I was kind of expecting that you wouldn’t be here at work today to look after him in the hospital…”

“Jungsoo,” she folded her arms “the business needs to continue, you know that. Some day you would be the one in charge of things here, so you should know the priorities. I can’t just leave things. We have nurses to look over daddy, and our jobs must go on.”

“So you mean, if one day I’d be bedridden, you’d just leave me to the care of nurses and go on with your job!? I didn’t know you were that heartless Sora.” I irritably said and walked out of my office, leaving her standing there looking surprised and hurt.
