The Boss
From U“Seriously?” I chuckled as I asked Kangin.
“Why?” he asked back. By the look on his face, I found out that he wasn’t just messing around.
“I thought you already recognized her!” I laughed “But I can’t blame you. You weren’t really close back then.”
Just then, his expression changed.
“Wait, that’s Sora!?” Kangin said with a louder voice “please tell me that’s not her and it’s just a creepy look-alike!”
“And you haven’t changed a bit too, Kangin,” I laughed as I patted his cheek. He shook his head. After a while he was back to normal.
“So, any plans of asking her out to be your girlfriend or something?”
“Oh, sorry I forgot to mention, she is my girlfriend. We’ve been going out since after graduation.”
Kangin stopped in his tracks. I didn’t notice it at first so I continued to walk. And then I realized he wasn’t walking beside me anymore. There he stood, a few paces away from me. There was a weird look on his face that I couldn’t put my finger on.
“Kangin!” I called out as I snapped “hey, you okay?”
“Huh?” he stared blankly at me “Uhm yeah,” he nodded and walked again.
“What happened to you? Are you feeling ill or what?” I placed the back of my palm on Kangin’s forehead. He seemed okay.
“Nah,” he smiled at me “I just, uhm, remembered that I haven’t eaten yet.”
“Oh! Then why didn’t you say so? Come on, there’s a cool old-school diner where I always eat. You’ll love it there!”
We walked for a while more until we reached the diner. Kangin found an empty table at the corner of the place. Even back then, when we eat together, he always picked the spot where we’re quite far away from the crowd. Except when we eat with Hyukjae and Donghae, he always picked the center spot where everyone could notice us. Can’t understand why he’s that way, but I just got so used to it. So there we sat and after a while, the waiter approached us and took our orders.
“The usual, Mr. Park?” he politely asked with a smile.
“I can’t decide what to eat right now,” I said “I’ll be having whatever this big guy orders,” I pointed towards Kangin.
Kangin ordered half pounder burgers, cheese grilled sandwich, and huge drinks. I teased if he didn’t eat for days.
“Will that be all, Mr. Park?” the waiter asked before leaving.
“Yeah, that’s all,” I said “and please Zhoumi, just call me Jungsoo, okay?”
Zhoumi bowed and headed off to the kitchen.
“Why not let them call you Teukie?” Kangin asked.
“Well,” I hesitated “it’s quite awkward for me…” I said. Deep inside, I’m having this strange feeling that I only wanted Kangin to call me that.
“Teukie,” Kangin said “I hope you don’t mind me asking… but, are you having plans of proposing to her?”
