Ch 5

The Sound Of The Forest

She shifted when she felt the sun shinning across her face. Turning so that the sun wasn't entruding on her, she shoved her face into the soil not caring. But the sun wasn't giving up easily. In fact she thought that it was now even brighter and she sighed, turning the opposite direction. Just as she thought the sun had given up, she felt something on her face, making it scrunch up. Using her hand she swatted at her face, hoping that whatever it was it would go away. It didn't. In fact it started stepping on her.

Stepping?

She slowly opened her eyes to find a bird bouncing on her nose.

"What?" She sighed, her back and stretching out.

The bird just chirped some noises and the girl sighed again, this time getting up. The bird flew off her nose, moving to her shoulder. She just brought up her arms, stretching them above her head. Groaning, she walked down to the river, washing up. Wiping her face, she turned surprised to still see the bird perched on her shoulder,

"What's wrong?"

The bird just chirped,

"I'm not leaving forever. That part was just exaggerated."

The bird chirped and to the girl it almost sounded like a scoff,

"Of course I'll come and visit."

"No, I'm not."

"Well."

She shook her head to tired and annoyed to explain it to the bird which didn't seem to understand. Rinsing off her arms, she was shocked when she saw the reflection of the water. Turning on her heels, she almost fell back seeing all the animals there.

"Geez, you guys scared me."

She was replied with the chatter of animal noises.

"Woah... calm down. I'll be back."

"Someday."

More animal noises.

"I am not being forced.

"I-I want to do this."

"I'll still protect you guys. Don't worry, I'm only going to be in the city."

She felt the wind still around her. Soon the animals quieted down and one by one began to scatter leaving her. She turned and the bird perched on her shoulder gave one last chirp before flying off, leaving her completely alone.

"Thanks." She said aloud and the wind soothed around her,

"It's time."

She just nodded. Shaking out her limbs, she went into a full sprint, unable to contain the smile that made its way to her face. Oh how she loved to run. Hair whipping around her, she felt her legs fully stretch and her body loosen. Gliding around the trees, she felt the rustling of the leaves and the scattering of the animals as they scurried around the forest. Coming to the edge of the forest, she slowed down, coming to a stop. Resting a hand against the tree she looked out at the city.

My new home.

Taking a deep breath she gave one last goodbye to the forest. Turning back around she felt her nerves get to her and she willed them to calm down. Taking one last deep breath she took a step.

Wondering what fate had exactly in store for her.

_______

(A/N- Everything is now going to be written in first person. So it will be through Jae's eyes.)

Ok, so this isn't exactly what I was expecting. Actually, I didn't know what I was expecting.

What do I do now?

I bit my lip contemplating my next action.

I guess I should find him first.

I shook my head. Yes, that sounded like the first logical thing to do.

Only, how do I find him?

I tilted my head. My run into him yesterday was only an accident. There wasn't a guarantee that I would run into him again.

School.

The thought sprung to my mind. Of course. He walks to school. I looked around only to frown when I didn't see any people walking around with uniforms. Sighing, I saw a woman walking and decided I would just ask her. Walking up to her, I tapped her on the shoulder,

"Um, excuse me. Do you know where all the people in uniforms are?"

The lady just looked at me funny,

"You mean the students. At school of course."

I shook my head,

"Oh, has it already started?"

"Yes, over an hour ago."

Oh.

I frowned at the thought. With the moment of silence the lady started to walk away. I quickly reached out to her,

"Wait. Do-do you know what time they get out?"

The lady just looked at me sighing,

"After 5."

Again she tried to walk away, but I stopped her again,

"Wait. What time is it now?"

The lady looked annoyed,

"8:15. Can I go already?"

I just bowed and with that the lady walked off. Taking in a deep breath, I frowned. That seemed like a long time.

What was I going to do till then?

I looked around and remembered all the shops. Then the memory of that one lady with the flyers and the shop with those weird scents entered my mind. Suddenly the image of a young man entered my mind and I smiled.

Maybe he could help.

I snapped at the thought. Smilling, I let my feet lead me to the familiar place. Walking down a few streets, I came to a stop looking up at the familiar sign. Jumping up the steps, I took in a hesitant breath before laying my hand over the handle.

What if he doesn't remember me?

I shook the thought off.

I had to try.

Determined, I pushed the door open, the cool air and the sound of a bell gingling hitting me. Hearing the familiar,

"Welcome." I turned smilling.

Only it wasn't the young man before, instead a new face stood there. I frowned. Giving a quick nod, I began to walk around the shop looking for the familiar face. Looking everywhere, I couldn't spot the familiar man and sighed.

Maybe he's not here.

I turned ready to leave, but as I turned my face came into contact with something hard. Groaning, I took a step back as someone said,

"I'm so sorry. Are you ok?"

My ears perked up and I looked up.

Him.

I smiled and I watched as his face also changed, a smile forming,

"Jae? It's you, right? From yesterday?"

He remembered.

"Mmh. Suho right?" I replied and he nodded.

"It's nice to see you again." He stated fixing his uniform.

"You too."

He looked at me, then the clock, scratching the back of his neck.

"I'm actually about to be on a break. Did-did you want to get coffee with me?" He asked biting his lip.

I didn't know what coffee was but I nodded,

"Sure if you don't mind?"

He quickly shook his hands,

"No, no. I would love it if you joined me."

I watched as his face suddenly went red, for what reason I did not know. Giving me a one second look, he turned and walked to the back. After a couple of minutes, he came back without his apron and smiled at me,

"Ready?"

I just nodded following him out the store. Opening the door, I stepped out and waited as he walked out. We walked down the steps and began heading down the sidewalk. It was silent, but not an awkward silence, more like a comfortable silence. Before I knew it though, he took a turn and stopped in front of a little shop. Opening the door for me again, I took a step in and to the side giving him room to walk in. Once in, I heard someone say his name and turned to find another young man walking towards us.

"Suho, hey how's it going?" The young man said patting Suho's shoulder and Suho smiled.

"Doing great." And noticing me, the young man turned towards me smiling,

"Ah, I can see why. Who is this pretty lady?"

I just smiled curious what this term pretty meant.

Suho face once again went red, hitting his friend playfully on the shoulder,

"Jae, this is Lay. Lay this is Jae. She's new in town."

The young man Lay smiled at me,

"Ah. I was wondering why she didn't seem familiar..."

He leaned towards me a light smirk,

"I would never forget such a pretty face."

Suho just shoved his friend,

"Yah, don't scare her."

Lay just laughed before walking us over to a table. Suho moved around me, pushing out the chair and I sat wontonly on the object. Once sitting, he walked around the table, himself sitting down. I looked down at the thing I was sitting on, moving around. It seemed sturdy and I kept messing with it intrigued,

"You alright?"

I snapped my head up to find Suho staring at me a small smile on his lips. I nodded and hearing another voice we both looked up. Lay was standing there,

"The usual?" He asked looking at Suho who nodded.

Then his attention went to me, that smirk coming back onto his face,

"And how about the pretty lady?"

I just sat there, looking from Lay to Suho.

"Umm..."

"Why don't you just get her the same. Is that fine?" Suho asked looking at me and once again I nodded,

"Sure."

Lay just smiled before turning and walking away. I watched as he walked and it was Suho's voice that brought my attention back,

"Did I loose already?" He chuckled and I tilted my head,

"Huh?"

"You were staring at him. Is he your type?"

I didn't understand.

What was a type?

"I was just curious." I shrugged.

"About what?" He asked looking at me.

I looked from him to Lay who was now behind the counter, who when catching my gaze gave me a wink. I frowned before looking back at Suho,

"That. Why does he look at you one way and me another?"

Suho shook his head,

"That's just Lay. He's a flirt."

Flirt?

"What's a flirt?" I asked and Suho looked at me.

"Someone who is nice to everyone."

I thought about it,

"Are you also a flirt?"

With that Suho began to cough,

"Who me? No, I don't think I am."

I nodded my head taking it in,

"You are nice to me though."

He looked at me,

"That's because I-"

Before he could finish though, Lay came to the table with two cups in his hand.

"Here you go, two caramel macchiatos."

Then he placed a plate in front of me,

"And a custard on the house for the pretty lady."

He once again winked at me before walking away.

I looked over at Suho,

"Sorry, what were you saying?"

He just shook his head,

"Nevermind."

I watched as he picked up the cup, bringing it to his face and took a sip. Looking down at the mug filled with some type of brown looking liquid, I also picked up the glass, surprised at the sudden heat. Retracting my hand, I winced. Suho noticed and put his cup down,

"Be careful it's hot. Try to use the handle, it'll help."

I looked over at him as he picked it up again, and I noticed as he held on the curve part which stook out of the cup. Mirroring his actions, I picked up the glass by the handle, glad I didn't get burnt, and brought it hesitantly to my lips.

"If you blow on it, it'll also helps."

I nodded, slowly blowing on the liquid. Hesitantly, I tilted it and felt the liquid touch my lips. Opening my mouth, the liquid streamed in and I was hit with the flavor.

So good.

My eyes went wide and I tilted the cup further, taking in all I could. Before I knew it, the cup was empty and I placed it back on the table disappointed that it was already gone. I heard a chuckle and glanced up to see Suho looked at me amused,

"Was it good?"

I nodded,

"Yeah. I've never had it before. It was delicious."

He rose an eyebrow,

"You've never had coffee before?"

I shook my head,

"No, we don't have any in the fo-" I stopped myself when I realized what I was saying.

He just looked at me,

"Where? Where you coming from?"

Uh-oh.

"Um. Just from here and there."

I looked down at the plate and noticing my face, I was glad he didn't push it any further.

"I understand." He stated and I looked at him,

"What?"

"Wanting to just get away. I understand."

Does he?

"Try the custard. They'e really good." He said pointing down to my plate.

I looked at it, slowly picking up the fork. I've seen people use them before, so I hoped I was using it correctly. Jabbing at it, I watched it wiggle, before taking a small part of it. Bringing it up, I placed the fork in my mouth, wondering if it tasted as good as the coffee. Swallowing it, I blinked.

"You like?"

I looked up,

"This is also really good. What was it again?"

"A custard."

Custard.

I would have to remember that.

Taking another part off with my fork, I noticed Suho watching it, so I held it out to him. He looked from the fork to me,

"What?"

"You looked like you wanted some. Here." I replied holding the fork out to him, my other hand under just in case it fell.

He looked at the fork, to me, his face going red. He gave a small cough before leaning forward, taking a bit. Leaning back, I brought the fork back taking another bite.

"Why does your face always turn red?" I asked worried and I heard him cough again.

"You alright?" I asked and he just nodded taking another sip of his coffee.

"Yeah, I was- I..."

"Are you sick?" I asked leaning towards him, placing my hand on his forehead and again he coughed, this time more rapidly.

He's warm.

"No-No-I I-I'm fine." He said and I brought back my hand,

"You sure, you feel warm."

He just nodded before abruptly standing up,

"I h-have to use the restroom. Excuse me."

Before I could say anything, I watched as he quickly disappeared. Leaning back in my chair, I shrugged taking another bite of the custard.

Hope he's alright.

Hearing the chair scoot, I thought he was already back which made me surprise at how quick he was,

"That was quick. Are you alr-" I stopped though, when I looked up to find not Suho sitting there, but the young man from earlier, Lay.

He smirked at me,

"How was the coffee? Did you like it?"

I nodded,

"Yes, it was delicious."

"How about the custard?"

"It was very good." I replied.

His smile grew.

"If you were wondering, I made it myself."

I really wasn't...

"Oh, that's cool." I replied wondering if Suho was alright.

"So. How did you meet Suho?"

I looked at him,

"At the shop he works at. He helped me."

His smile grew wider,

"Did he now? I could help you also."

I rose an eyebrow,

"With what?"

He just leaned forward, his hand tapping on the table,

"You're new right? I could always show you around."

I crossed my arms,

"Sorry, but Suho already said he would."

I watched as his face twitched,

"Lucky bastard." He muttered and I just looked around hoping Suho would hurry.

"Well what if-" I smiled when I spotted Suho who walked up to the table.

"Suho." I said and Suho looked from me to Lay,

"Lay shouldn't you be working?"

Lay sighed getting up. Walking around the table, he stopped next to me, handing me a piece of paper,

"Here's my number. Anytime you're free, call me." He whispered.

I just looked from him to Suho. Taking the paper, I crumbled it up, walking next to Suho,

"Sorry, but I'm busy. Suho, can we get some air?"

Suho just looked from Lay to me, a smile playing on his lips,

"Of course."

Suho put some money on the table before leading me out. At the door I turned, calling Lay. He looked at me,

"Thanks for the drink and custard. It was good."

He just scoffed a watever before going back to the counter.

Walking out of the shop, I was glad for the air. Taking in a deep breath, I turned to find Suho standing there looking at me weirdly,

"What?" I asked wondering why he was staring at me.

"I've never seen someone turn down Lay before. I'm shocked."

I tilted my head,

"People actually like that?"

Suho scoffed,

"Yeah, I've lost lots of girls to him."

I shivered at the thought,

"Well, don't worry. I would not leave you for him. I like you a lot more."

I watched him blink at me,

"Can you say that again?"

I looked back at him,

"What? That I like you a lot more?"

He nodded, a full fledge smile now on his face,

"Huh? You're red again." I said pointing at his beet like face.
