It wasn't supposed to happen.

That was the single thought that ran through his head as he sat there, eyes boring into the dull wall of the hospital room. No. They were supposed to watch TV at night, or maybe do something else once Kibum got better.

They were supposed to wake up in the morning, as happy as ever to have another day together.

A bitter chuckle left pale lips, the silence piercing the boy's ears.

It was supposed to be so, so different. Yet, no one could read the book of fate. No one, not even them.

Maybe, they had been lucky at numerous occasions before. Kibum was sick, but none of them ever got into accidents or even worse, shootings or such. No. They were able to live their peaceful life, together as a couple.

It seemed sickly sweet, disgustingly perfect even, but they knew better than that.

They knew that even the brightness of joys could be taken away within the matter of moments. Just like lightening illuminating the sky for one moment, the ill could be fleeting, but like the rain that the storm would bring, it could leave its reminders for a long, long time.

Everything had changed. Sweet was now bitter, bitter was something worse, something that was by no means close to what it used to be. Because, even after the darkest of storms, the sun would be shining brightly.

But the sun was gone, hidden by clouds.

And it seemed like it could never emerge again.

But...

Time seemed to be odd, too. One moment, the moments were passing all too quickly. People rushing in and out of the rooms, doctors talking, their voices just a blur. Food would be shoved in his hands, only for him to toss it away.. It wasn't needed.

Nothing was needed but the sun. The star that would light up the horizon once again, that would finally chase the night away.

But the sun's remaining light was fading. Skin was slowly getting paler and paler, hair thinner, lips seemingly drier, bluer.

It was disgustingly beautiful, a haunting miracle.

Even like this, he was kind of handsome, still.
