Have a great day/night! :)
She thought he was untrustworthy.
It wasn’t the smell of coffee that she was missing. It wasn’t the freshly baked cookies that lured her in. It definitely wasn’t the lack of social interaction that she missed either. It was Sunggyu who forcefully took her to the coffee shop across the street.
“You’ll love it!” Sunggyu promised.
Da Eun kept quiet and let Sunggyu lead the way. Knowing there was nothing in the fridge and she was hungry, Da Eun began to think it wasn’t such a bad idea. She also had to admit she hadn’t gone to any public places in a while.
“Where do you want to sit?” Sunggyu asked when the two entered.
Da Eun shrugged her shoulders and dragged her fingers across the wall. The cream coloured paint was peeling off slightly. The wooden tables looked old and their legs looked like they were about to give away. The walls were lacking décor with just a couple of picture frames hung up here and there. Despite this, there were still many people in the shop. Most of the seats were filled leaving only a couple of options for the two.
“Let’s just sit near the back there,” Sunggyu said as he walked towards the table.
Da Eun stared at Sunggyu as he walked away for a bit before following. When she sat down, Sunggyu walked away. Da Eun assumed he was going to get the coffee.
After a couple of minutes, Sunggyu came back with two cups of coffee and some snacks for the two. He placed everything in front of Da Eun and waited for her to pick something up.
“Go on,” He urged.
With a deep breath, Da Eun took the coffee and began drinking it. She took a bit of the banana muffin. It tasted better than she expected.
“It’s delicious, isn’t it?” Sunggyu grinned. “It’s my favourite. This coffee shop has the best coffee and snacks.”
Da Eun looked up and met eyes with Sunggyu. He looked so calm and happy, she thought. His eyes were clear and sweet with a little bit of depth. Da Eun could only wonder what her eyes looked like. She assumed they looked lifeless and incomplete. Didn’t people always say your eyes reflected how you felt? She wondered if she had eyes of sadness, despair and defeat.
“Why did you bring me here?” Da Eun asked, wondering if he felt sorry for her.
“I thought you may be hungry,” Sunggyu answered truthfully.
Da Eun bit her lip, “Thanks for the food. I’ll go now.”
“Wait!” Sunggyu exclaimed as he tried to grab Da Eun’s wrist.
But it was too late and Da Eun had already begun walking away. She stood on the edge of the sidewalk, waiting to cross the street. When she saw that nobody was coming from both sides, she put her foot out but was held back. Somebody was holding onto her arm.
“Where are you going, Da Eun?”
Da Eun’s breath hitched and her heartbeat increased dramatically. She began to sweat and feel slightly claustrophobic. She turned around to meet faces with Miyoung. And behind Miyoung were some of her friends.
“It’s been a while, Da Eun,” Miyoung smirked. “How have you been? You don’t look too well.”
Da Eun bit the inside of her lip, knowing full well how terrible she looked. Da Eun hadn’t been taking care of her skin as well as she used to. The only grooming she did of her hair was washing. She would simply tie it up, too fed up to care about the tangles.
Da Eun chose to ignore Miyoung an
