Her Love is a Revenge

Roots Seeking Another Land

Tiffany was lazily playing with her straw while listening to Sooyoung, her bestfriend.

“Tiff, until when are you planning to do this huh?”

Tiffany looked at her.

“Until I can…”

“But—“

“If she didn’t steal Donghae away from me, this wouldn’t happen.”

Sooyoung rolled her eyes.

“Jessica’s a human too…”

“I know…”

Tiffany knows her conscience might kill her for this, but it’s the only way she can take revenge on the girl who caused her too much heartache 6 years ago.

*flashback*

*slap*

Donghae’s head turned right when he received a hard slap from Tiffany.

“Who’s this girl?!”

Tiffany threw the pictures to his face. Donghae caught one and gulped.

In the picture, he was hugging a girl in the mall, both of them smiling.

“Who is she?!”

Donghae held her arm.

“Let me explain Tiffa—“

“Tell me who is she…”, she said as calmly as she can.

Donghae gritted his teeth.

“Hae! Speak up please?! Tell me her name!”

“Jessica… Jung Jessica…”

Tiffany smirked.

“She… she was my buddy’s sister. I met her last month in a musical show.”

“Is that why you have a ticket for the Ice Show?”

Donghae looked down.

“Who is she to you?”

Donghae crumpled the picture in his hands.

“Lee Donghae!—“

“I’m sorry…”

A tear fell from her eyes.

“Sorry?”

He looked up at her and removed his ring from his finger. He held her hands and had the ring back to her.

“I’m sorry Tiffany… but I love Jessica…”

He leaned in and kissed her forehead before he walked away.

Tiffany got frozen. She felt her world suddenly collapsed. She never thought Donghae could do this to her.

Donghae was the person he loved the most… and she doesn’t know if she could ever let him go.

After five years…

Tiffany stepped inside the wide gates of Ace University, the most pioneer school in Seoul. She was asked to transfer there by her father.

Right at that time, Sooyoung, her long time bestfriend, called.

“Yeoboseyo?”

“Yah Panyang! Where are you?”

Tiffany laughed.

“I’m here in the entrance gate. Can you fetch me up here?”

“Wait a minute; I’m actually on my way there.”

Tiffany looked around. It was like the usual university she attended before. Students chatting, couples flirting, nerds studying, professors busy working… they were all the same.

Maybe it’s easier to adjust now…

She looked at the conference hall and saw Sooyoung running to her.

“Tiffany!!!!”

Sooyoung hugged her quickly and ruffled her hair.

“Yah, how have you been?”

Tiffany slapped her arm.

“We just saw each other last week. Don’t be so retarded.”

Sooyoung carried her bag for her as they walked along the hallway of the school.

“So… what course are you taking up?”, Sooyoung asked.

“Literature class…”

“You really love writing huh?”

Tiffany just smiled. Writing was really her passion.

As they passed by the council room, Sooyoung stopped. She pointed through the glass and waved at the four persons sitting inside.

“Who are they?”, Tiffany asked.

Sooyoung chuckled.

“That midget wearing a green shirt is Sunkyu. The girl beside her, the one wearing a plain black shirt is Taeyeon. That’s her girlfriend.”

A whistle escaped Tiffany’s lips.

“Lesbians do exist here Tiff.”

They both laughed.

“That one, the girl carrying a notebook is Seohyun, the youngest member of the council. And the girl standing behind her with her arms crossed is no other than the school’s queen bee.”

Tiffany looked at her.

“Queen Bee?”

“Yeah chingu. She’s Jessica… Jessica Jung.”

Tiffany’s eyes widened.

She’s…. Jessica?!

Tiffany felt her supposed to be healing heart starting to heat up again. The scars and wounds were re-opened, and now too fresh to see the reasons for it.

“Tiffany?”, Sooyoung said.

Tiffany acted like nothing. She looked back at her.

“She’s beautiful…”

Sooyoung laughed, thinking her bestfriend was interested with Jessica.

“She’s a nice person Tiff. She looks cold and rude, but the Ice Princess’ heart has melted.”

Nice huh?

They continued walking again. As they walked, Tiffany was building up things in her mind.

“Yoona!”

Tiffany looked up and saw her bestfriend running to a girl. She looked at the girl, and somehow felt intimidated.

“Tiffany! Come here! Meet Yoona, the daughter of the school’s chairman and the best known player in school.”

Yoona slapped the back of her head. Yoona walked to her and reached out her hand.

“Hi Tiffany, I’m Im Yoona. nice to meet you.”

Tiffany accepted her hand.

“Hi, I’m Tiffany Hwang, it’s nice to meet you too Yoona-ssi.”

“Drop the honorifics… I feel uncomfortable.”

Yoona rubbed the back of her head, feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Yah Im Yoona! not my bestfriend!”, Sooyoung warned.

Yoona laughed.

“You can’t blame me if I act like this Soo. She’s just…”

Yoona looked at her and smiled that ever gorgeous smile.

“She’s too beautiful…”

Tiffany smiled shyly.

Somehow this time, her first day is equal.

She met Im Yoona, the girl who intimidated her…

And Jessica Jung, the girl who once broke her life….

*end of flashback*

Tiffany wanted to let go of her past, but even loving Yoona was never enough to completely erase her memories with Donghae.

“So what’s next Tiff?”

She looked at her cousin.

“What?”

“Did you even love Yoona huh?”

“I did… I loved her… but she brought nothing but pain to me.”

“And you just happen to love him more?”

Tiffany took a sip from her drink.

“You know Panyang… you better stop this.”

“And why?”

“You’ll just get hurt. And besides…”

Tiffany raised a brow.

“And besides what?”

“And… what if you’ll fall for her? You know this world Tiff… nothing’s impossible.”

“That won’t happen.”

“Are you sure? Even now… even just by looking at you… I know you’re happy with Sica.”

“It’s part of the plan.”

Sooyoung shook her head in disapproval. She stood up and was about to leave.

“Another thing before I go… Tiff… if that happens? It just won’t be her who’ll get hurt. Give yourself a break. Love her because I know this plan of yours will lead to that case…”

She watched as Sooyoung took her way out of the café. She closed her eyes and sighed.

I’m not in love with her…..

I’m not….

I know I’m not….

Yoona was sitting on the couch with Yuri beside her. They both looked at Yoona’s father who was walking back and forth in front of them.

“What’s wrong Appa?”

Her father shook his head and laughed at himself.

“I just can’t believe my daughter would bring her beloved here.”

Yoona smirked and turned at Yuri.

“He’s mentally retarded. Just… bear with him.”

Yuri laughed as she slapped her lap.

“So Yul, how’s your father now?”

“He’s doing well in States uncle.”

“If he happens to go home some time, tell him to come over here, okay?”

Yuri smiled.

“Sure thing uncle… he’ll be happy to hear that. He actually misses you.”

“Yeah… we haven’t seen each other for two years already…”

Just then, his phone rang.

“Excuse me for a while….. Yeoboseyo?”

“Good evening sir. Mrs. Jang called up for a dinner meeting tonight in their place. She said she needs to discuss some things with you.”

He scratched the back of his head.

“Okay, okay… I’ll be there now….. yeah… bye.”

He looked at them with apologetic eyes.

“Even though I want to spend more time with you guys… I badly need to go now. Yoona-ah… why don’t you take Yuri for a walk outside?”

“It’s drizzling outside Appa.”

“No, take her around.”

Yoona looked at Yuri when her father left.

“He doesn’t act like a school chairman, does he?”

“Well… he’s just cool.”

Yoona laughed as she ruffled her hair.

“Wanna go around Seoul?”

“Hmm… I thought you don’t want to go around?”

“If you want to… then I’ll go with you.”

Yuri blushed when Yoona shove off something from her face.

“Just a sort of dirt or something… kekeke.”

“You babo… where do you want to go?”

“Hmm… how about… Namsan Tower?”

Yuri beamed a smile at her.

“That’s great… so… how do we get there? I mean… by cable car or just walk on that huge, stone staircase?”

“I want to walk…”

“Eh? You’re gonna tire yourself Yoon—“

“It’s more romantic… it’ll be great…”

She saw her smile. The back of their hands slightly touched, sending her goosebumps.

“And we have to go somewhere in that place…”, Yoona said in a low voice.

Yoona stood up and reached for her hand.

“Let’s go?”

Yuri smiled back as she took her hand.

“Gaja…”

After one hour

Yoona and Yuri just arrived at the base of Mt. Namsan after dropping by a nearby restaurant.

“Yoona… I tell you… this will be tiring.”

“I don’t care.”

Yoona pulled her by the arm as they started walking as they go along the lush forest-like surrounding.

The night was breezy and cold and unfortunately, Yuri forgot her jacket. Yoona looked at her and smirked.

“Are you feeling cold?”

“No… I’m okay…”

Yuri looked away from Yoona but she got surprised when Yoona positioned herself in front of her and wrapped the scarf around her neck.

“Yoona, you don’t have to do—“

“I want to… so just let me.”

“but—“

“I’m okay. I still have my jacket on Yuri.”

They continued walking again, this time, their distances weren’t so far already.

Yoona looked at Yuri, hesitating if she should do what’s on her mind.

“Uhm Yul?”

“Hmm?”

Yuri looked at her, happiness seen clearly in her eyes.

“Seohyun said your hands are warm despite how cold the weather is—“

Yoona stopped when Yuri held her hand, their fingers clasping tightly.

“Just say it if you want to hold my hand… it’s for free.”

Her hands were really warm.

Actually, Yoona knows about this. Sometimes when Yuri falls asleep at night, she would hold her hand for a while to make her feel more comfortable. She knew how those fingers perfectly fit her grasp and hold.

That’s her impact on her.

“Well actually, if others will hold my hand… I’ll charge them for it.”

“Eh?”

Yoona’s tune was really curious.

“It depends on the one holding it… if it’s other people… then it’ll never be free…”

“What do you mean? How about for me?”

Yuri turned to face her. She smiled and squeezed her hand.

“When it comes to you… it’s for free…”

“…..”

“Because to me you’re priceless…”

Yoona felt her heart’s pace increasing.

“Uhm…”

“Stop with those ‘uhms’ Yoona. you look like an idiot.”

Yuri’s words never failed to make her swoon.

They continued walking again, now halfway towards their destination.

“Yuri… can I ask something?”

“What is it?”

Yoona was really enjoying this moment. They walk side by side with their hands never letting go.

“What do you like about me?”

“What kind of question was that?”

“I’m just… I’m just wondering you know…”

Yuri laughed.

“You’re oversized forehead.”

Yoona slapped her arm.

“Just kiddin… hmm… what do you think?”

“I don’t know that’s why I’m asking.”

“I just…. I love you for who you are… I somehow feel connected to you…”

Yoona scoffed.

“Connected?”

“I mean… it’s like there’s something on you which completes me… just… just like that.”

The answer was not clearly explained, but it was enough to lighten up Yoona.

“Can I ask you too Yoona?”

“The same thing I asked you?”

Yuri shook her head.

“I want to know…”

“Know what?”

“I want to know who I am to you right at this time…”

Yoona moved closer to her, their shoulders touching.

“You make me smile over the weirdest and nonsense things on Earth…”

“A clown indeed—“

“and also the one who… never failed to make me smile just by seeing you.”

Yuri felt herself froze.

“Wha-what?”

“You don’t believe me?”

Yoona frowned and pouted cutely.

Yuri felt a bit strange. Suddenly, the cold Yoona has changed and now… she’s looking at her true side.

“Stop freezing or I’ll take you home.”

Yuri snapped back and walked ahead of her.

“Finally…”

Yoona stared at the Seoul Tower from the Pavilion.

“Looks great right?”

Yuri just nodded. This time, she let go of Yoona’s hand but pulled her closer by the waist.

“Let’s go up…”, she whispered.

“No… let’s just stay here…”

Yoona closed her eyes, feeling the cold breeze wrapping her lungs.

From the top of Namsan Mountain, you can see the night view of Seoul. The city was never sleeping.

“Let’s go over the Love Locks.”

Yoona held her hand again and dragged her to the love locks.

Couples come here and put a lock on the fence to symbolize the eternity of their love.

“It’s funny how they still remind the people to keep the keys.”

Yuri laughed.

“Well… just in case they break up.”

Yoona bought two locks from the booth and gave one to Yuri.

Yoona wrote some words on the lock, and Yuri did the same.

“What did you write?”

Yoona stuck out her tongue.

“You don’t have to know about it.”

“I want to Yoong…”

She saw how Yuri pouted cutely at her.

“Okay… I wrote ‘to my girlfriend… I hope you’ll maintain your chubby cheeks and your y body.’ Hahaha.”

“That Yoona…”

Yoona laughed.

“You?”

“I wrote here ‘to Yoona… I promise one day… I’ll marry you, you idiot.”

Yoona smiled. She pulled Yuri by the end of her scarf until their foreheads touched.

“Actually… I want to go here because I want you to see this place… with me.”

“Yoong—“

“There are so many things that I have to endure… I lost myself after losing Tiffany… but I never expected to meet someone as eager as you…”

Yoona cupped her face.

“I’m sorry for being so insensitive… I’m sorry for hurting you… I know I’m a jerk when it comes to love but…”

She stared directly into her eyes.

“This time… I’ll do it right…”

Yoona pulled back and showed her the lock… with the words….

It took me some time to realize that…

I love you Kwon Yuri…

Yuri’s eyes went teary. But before those tears fell down, Yoona pulled her and kissed her on the lips. Her one arm wrapped around just above her shoulder, her other arm holding Yuri’s hand.

Yuri closed her eyes, knowing she’s safe in her lover’s side.

When they pulled back, Yuri showed her lock to her.

All this time… what I know is that, I love you Im Yoona.

To be continued…
