Chapter 8

A Cracked Reflection

Youngjae was just managing to get into the film, despite having not seen the beginning and not knowing what was going on, when a pair of hands clasped down on his shoulders. He jumped, letting out a small, almost girly yelp as he spun quickly and found himself almost nose to nose with Himchan.

“Omo! That was just… way too adorable!” Himchan said, ruffling Youngjae’s hair as he laughed at the others pout.

“It’s not funny…” Youngjae mumbled.

“Okay, okay, not funny…” Himchan said, still grinning widely. “Anyways… Can you go get Daehyun, dinner is done.” Himchan immediately Yongguk, pushing at the other‘s head and shoulders as Yongguk ignored him and kept his focus on the movie, “Yongguk~ Dinner time! Pause the movie… The food is getting cold!”

Youngjae watched in mild amusement as he waited for a break in Himchan’s torment against Yongguk so he could ask exactly where Daehyun would be located at. He looked over as someone tugged lightly at the sleeve of his shirt.

“Himchan hyung doesn’t always think things through… Take the third left after you leave this room and his room is the second on the right after the fourth hallway on the left. Try not to get lost, okay?”

Youngjae smiled at Jongup, “Thanks… And, I’ll try not to… third left, second right after the fourth left… not too hard.” He said, getting up to find Daehyun.

Of course, thanks to Murphy’s Law, Youngjae found himself wandering up and down hallways, hopelessly lost. How could he have screwed up something as simple as “Take the third left, and then the second door on the right after the fourth hallway on the left”?

Youngjae was close to merely giving up on finding the room. Flopping his back against the wall he puffed out his cheeks before slowly releasing the air.

Nuneul gama do, uril bichu deon

Bichi ajik do, geudaero isseo

Sojung haetdeon shigan deul, nan gipi ganjik hagesseo

Youngjae pushed himself up from the wall, pressing his ear against the door across the hallway, listening carefully to the voice behind the wooden panel.

Manheun shigan sok, apeumi wado

Yeongwoneul yaksok, haetdeon nanal deul

Youngjae rested his hand against the doorknob, easing the door open silently. He wasn’t ever one to eavesdrop on such levels, but, there was something about the unknown singing voice that compelled him to see who it was that possessed such a beautiful voice.

Geu sungan mankeum, kkeut torok jeoldae ijji anhgesseo,

I remember.

Youngjae wrapped his fingers around the thick wood of the door, easing it open just a bit more so he could get a better view of Daehyun as the older boy wandered around his room aimlessly, and singing to himself. Even in the others singing, Youngjae could pick out the accent that he possessed, more so since for the first time that Youngjae had seen, Daehyun wasn’t wearing the mask that usually muffled his voice. Youngjae pushed the door open a couple more inches, wanting to just see a bit more of Daehyun. Of course, seeing as he had the most amazing of luck, the door gave a loud squeak on its rather old hinges. The sound echoed, hanging in the silent air and ringing in Youngjae’s ears and Daehyun spun around on the spot, dark eyes narrowed into a glare as he saw Youngjae.

“How long have you been standing there?” Daehyun demanded.

Allowing the door to fall open the rest of the way, Youngjae stood in the door way to the others room as he scanned Daehyun’s facial expression, detecting just the slightest hints of a blush. “You’re a really good singer.” Youngjae said, not wanting to tell Daehyun that he had been there for a good bit.

“That doesn’t answer my question.” The elder’s blush darkened just a little as he crossed his arms, “Why aren’t you with the others… You shouldn’t be wandering around.”

The distrust in Daehyun’s voice rung as clear as day, and Youngjae, even though he knew that he didn’t honestly deserve their trust, couldn’t help the feeling of the bitter sting it left deep within.  “It’s not like I’m going to wander around and murder all of you or something. If you remember correctly, you are the one that came to me, not the other way around.” Youngjae mumbled, surprised at the harsh edge that had developed.

To his surprise, Daehyun flopped down to sit on the edge of his bed, burying his face in his hands as he rubbed at his eyes with a heavy sigh, “I’m sorry, Youngjae… It’s not you… Well… it is you. But… Aish… It’s hard to trust anybody anymore.”

Youngjae walked into the room, sitting down next to Daehyun carefully as to not startle the other. There was a small voice in his head that reminded him that Daehyun was part of a gang, that he shouldn’t care and he should just keep to himself and finish up this mission so he could get back to his own life.

A much larger voice took over though, shoving that small, rational thought to the corner of Youngjae’s mind, locking it away as it reminded him of Jieun’s words telling him to just be himself, not to worry about trying to take control of any situation.

“Do you want to tell me about it?” Youngjae asked quietly, watching as Daehyun kept his face hidden as he moved his hands from over his eyes to run them through his messy brown locks.

“No…”

“Do you want me to leave?” Youngjae was just about to get up and leave and try to find his way back to the main room to find Himchan or one of the others when a quite mumble caught his attention.

“… Please stay?”

Youngjae couldn’t help the small smile as Daehyun phrased the small request as a question. “Of course,” he said, nodding a little as he settled back down on the edge of Daehyun’s bed. He waited in silence as Daehyun continued to stare down at the floor, his fingers still going through his hair every now and then.

“Himchan hyung constantly reminds us how, no matter what sort of group you are going off in, always have someone with you to watch your back. Even numbers are safe numbers and you never want to be alone.” The words flew from Daehyun’s mouth, as though if he didn’t get them out right this instant, he’d only stop himself from continuing. “In this line of business, it’s hard to trust just anybody, and, as we started making a bigger name for ourselves, Bang decided it’d be best if we brought in some new recruits…”

“One of them was an undercover cop.”

Daehyun turned quickly, staring at Youngjae was wide eyes before narrowing them slowly, “How do you know?”

“Himchan hyung told me.” Youngjae shrugged, noticing Daehyun’s sudden tense posture. “Said something about pulling a gun on you guys…” Youngjae tried his best to stay calm and relaxed under Daehyun’s intense stare as the older scrutinized him.

“I wouldn’t put it like that exactly, but, yes, he was an undercover cop.”

Youngjae may have not been the best ‘people person’ but, even with his lack of skill, he could tell there was something deeper in the others sentence. He nudged Daehyun’s side lightly, “Hey, I know you don’t really know me… but… I’m not going anywhere… You can… you know… talk to me, that is… if you want?”

Daehyun sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping down. “We trusted him, Youngjae… more than any of the other prospective recruits… and… We were so close to accepting him fully…” Daehyun ran his hands through his hair as he stared at nothing, lost more in the scenes playing within his mind.

“I swear! They told me that they wanted to meet here.”

Yongguk leaned back against the brick wall of the alleyway they were currently waiting in. “I don’t even know why we are wasting our time with them anyways…” He growled, pushing off the wall as he grabbed Himchan’s arm to angel it so he could see the younger’s watch. “We’ve got to get going soon…”

“We can’t leave Bang and the Commander waiting, Zico.” Jongup said with a small smile as he stood near their newest recruit. The blonde haired male had proven to be a great asset to the time with his above par marksman ship and amazing fighting skills, all that was left was for them to welcome him fully into their group.

Alas, nothing was going as planned, as that morning Zico had come in flailing limbs and stating how he had run into one of the up and coming gangs and how the leader had threatened that they were going to take over B.A.P’s territory.

“Why aren’t they here anyways?” Zico asked, turning to look from Jongup to Yongguk, “Shouldn’t they be here to make sure nothing happens to their territory?”

“They trust us to handle these types of matters, Zico.” Himchan said with a light smile, “Nu’Est is nothing compared to B.A.P…”

“Oh, so that is how it is? Call us here then insult us?”

Himchan looked up at the dark brown haired male, “Oh, JR, it’s good to see you again…” he said with a sweet smile, “You guys are late, considering you’re the one that set the time.”

“Don’t try to mess with our heads-wait…” JR looked back at the four members of his own gang as they followed behind him, “Aron, did you contact them?”

Aron raised an eyebrow, “I may be older then you, but… Why would I go over your head like that?” he asked.

“I’m starting to think that someone set us up…” The male that had been standing within the shadows stepped forward, his small face was framed by a fluff of black hair, “Zico… Is there anything you’d like to explain?”

Zico looked outraged, staring at the wall next to him before rolling his eyes and glaring at Yoseob, “Are you seriously implying what I think you are?” He asked with annoyance in his voice.

“If there is something going on within your own gang, leave us out of it.” One of the members of Nu’Est stepped forward; his dirty blonde hair had been spiked up into a sort of faux hawk, the sides shaved close to his head.

“Baekho.” JR warned, motioning with his head for the other to step back. Just as he got ready to step back, the wail of sirens rang in their ears. “. RUN!”

Himchan turned in worry, trying to locate any other ways out as the sirens grew louder, Baekho had taken off, dragging the young blonde who Himchan would have guessed was ‘Ren’ as Minhyun ran to keep them covered. Aron stayed with JR as the leader threw them a look, “This is low, even for you guys…” he said over the approaching sirens, “If we ever meet out on the field; you better hope you have someone to watch your back!” He tapped Aron’s arm as the two backed out of the long alleyway, taking off after their other members.

“Yongguk, we need to go!” The blue-black haired teen said, tugging at the leaders arm, his eyes wide.

“Zelo is right… “Yongguk said, taking the younger’s  hand to try to calm him down as he took a step forward to check to see how far out the police were.

However, he was met with the sight of the business end of a gun.

“Zico.” He warned, narrowing his eyes, “This isn’t a time for games… We need to go.”

“No… You don’t understand.” The blonde smiled, his eyes alight with something sinister, “It that Nu’Est ran off so fast… It would have looked so much better on my report to say I not only lured part of the elusive B.A.P into a trap, but also managed to catch that careless rookie gang…”

“A trap? You lied to us!” Zelo said, slowly hiding behind Yongguk as the gun was him next.

“Yes, you idiot… You’ve been played.” He let out a bark of laughter as a look of hurt passed Zelo’s features, “Reality needs to smack you a good one, kid, the world isn’t full of honest people. We lie, we steal…” Zico’s eyes flickered to the movement behind the two and the smirk grew wider, “And we kill.”

In a flash, the gun was redirected and a single round was fired followed by the unmistakable ‘thump’ of dead weight hitting the cold concrete.

Youngjae stared at Daehyun, the silence hanging in the air, “W…what happened next?” he asked quietly.

“I don’t know… I… I remember seeing Yoseob’s body just lying there… and god… the blood was just everywhere and… I out.”

“You passed out?”

Daehyun laughed bitterly, “I wish it were that simple. One minute we were staring in shock at Yoseob and the next… Himchan was fussing over me, cleaning the blood off of my hands.”

“You killed him… Zico I mean?”

Daehyun nodded slowly, “I guess so… The guys won’t tell me exactly what happened.”

The two lapsed into silence, each lost in their own thoughts. Youngjae swallowed back the bile that had managed to rise to the back of his throat. The task force had never known what had truly happened to the last undercover agent that they had sent into B.A.P. Rumors of the mangled corpse found in the alleyway when the police had finally arrived on scene had spread through the office like wild fire. All this time, Youngjae had figured that B.A.P had struck him down in cold blood after uncovering his true identity. Somehow though, believing in the rumor seemed better then the truth at this point. He glanced over at Daehyun, making himself a mental note never to get on the boys bad side.

With a soft sigh, he nudged Daehyun from his thoughts, “Thanks Daehyun hyung… For you know… telling me.” He said, smiling softly, “We should probably get to dinner now… Himchan had sent me to find you-“

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier that dinner was done?!” The brown haired boy leapt up from where he had been sitting, grabbing Youngjae’s hand and dragging him from the bedroom, “Aish, you guys just want me to starve!” He said jokingly as he led Youngjae back to the main room with ease.

They were greeted with the site of Himchan in an apron, his hands on his hips as the black haired male scolded them for taking so long before rushing them to their seats at the table where their slightly cold dinner awaited, the rest of the group already mostly through their own plates as they laughed and joked like any other group of young adults would.

Youngjae couldn’t help but smile along with them as he ate, a sense of belonging settling into his chest no matter how much the little voice in the back of his mind warned him that it was wrong to harbor such feelings when surrounded by criminals.

Extra long chapter to make up for my lack of update these past few days? :P I was watching back "Ta-dah, It's BAP" and I noticed something. Himchan is called the Commander, not the General... a mistake I made the other chapter because the first time I watched it, the subs frankly and they kept translating it into the General. So... here's my explination... Since the Commander is one step below Yongguk, that was Yoseob's position before everything happened, and out of respect, Himchan doesn't take on that title. .... "OTL

I want to thank everyone for their gang ideas, they will all be of great use to me, so, first up is a Nu'Est cameo! Which gang will be next?

I hope to get a few more chapters done soon, I'm off work for the weekend on doctors orders because I managed to sprain my wrist once again because my coworkers don't know how to do their job and actually take out the trash on their shifts too. Seriously, this bag weighed almost as much as I do!

I'm also working on a BangLo oneshot, if anyone is interested? Speaking of Bang related pairings, I must be the slowest person on earth, because, i said BangHim outloud for the first time and.... BangHim... kekeke, it's just asking for ty one shots!

I hope you guys enjoyed this! Long A/N is long. DX

Cuddles,

Lynn

(PS, Daehyun is singing his/Yoseob's parts from BYG's "I remember"... just in case someone didn't reconize it.)

PPS: I recently found out theaffcommunity on tumblr featured my fic about a week ago... I want to give all the loves in the world to who ever made that happen, seriously, it made my whole week brighter. *loves you all*

I wrote a BangLo oneshot, you guys. It's called "  I Remember  " I hope you guys will check it out and let me know how it is. (Warning, it's... kinda long, so if you don't like long oneshots... please still read it? I'll give you all the love in the world!)

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!

Chapter 61: First off, I'm really glad I read this story after it was completed, or it would've messed me up and hurt me way more because I wouldn't've known if there was a happy ending. Secondly, the fact that I KNEW there was going to be a happy ending and things were okay in the end but was still affected so much by the things that happened was crazy. Like, I knew things ended up well because I skimmed chapter 60 beforehand because I didn't want to end up reading such a long story just to be wrecked at the end because there wasn't a happy ending. But this story was just so greatly written, everything made sense, and at no point did I have the thought of anything being unnecessary. I felt what the characters were feeling, and every time good things were happening, I would just say to myself, "It's gonna hurt when the betrayal comes" (given that it was based off the One Shot MV).

I also like to think that at the marriage scene, it's just this weird conglomerate of gang members (like Nu'est and Infinite) and cops from Youngjae's old job that have set aside grudges for the happy day.
