Rivals

Honestly rivals bore me and I think they're the most childish thing on the planet. I've been doing apply fics for over a year now (O.O even I can't believe that) and because of that the more I come to realize how horrible rivals in fics are. Like no one comes up with an un-childish reason as to why they're rivals with someone. And SO MANY people use the same rivals over and over again, it's really annoying and repetitive when you see the same girls being picked.

Typical Rivals: HyunA, Jessica, Krystal, IU, Suzy, Hyoyeon, Sulli

Most of the reasonings behind rivals that applyers give is 'I'm friends with who they like' or 'They're jealous of how talented I am' or 'We went to the same school/trained in the same label and they bullied me'...

I think the authors make rivals because they wanna add some drama but you can spice up the drama another way! You can add scandals, conflict between group members, some love interest thing there are so many other ways to add drama in a less childish manner!

Love rivals are different, I'm not talking about 'This girl hates me because we like the same guy'. And when I mean love rivals I mean this boy likes her and isn't the main love interest; although I find that kinda childish too... but not as bad!

Rivals are realstic, hell we all have them at some point, but it's just the way people go about how they got this rival that makes it incredibly cliche and rather boring.

If You Are Writing: If you really want rivals make it optional; not everyone likes them and not everyone is good at making them.

If You Are Applying: Just try not to be over-dramatic and do something incredibly cliche; that's all I ask of you.
