CHAPTER FOUR.
My Obsession.
AGE 14
Today was my first day of high school and I was going to the same high school as Jiyong and Youngbae! I was really excited but nervous at the same time. I wonder how the people will be like there and I wonder if they’ll like me. I can’t wait to see Youngbae and Jiyong. I was in my room getting ready for my first day of class. After putting on my uniform, I went to the mirror and looked at myself. I smiled to myself. A lot have changed these past two years. My hair grew out and I’ve gotten a lot girlier. I heard a knock on my door and my mom walked in.
“Wah. You look so pretty! I can’t believe my baby is growing up.” My mom started sniffing.
“Umma please don’t cry. I’m just going to high school! It’s no big deal.” I told her.
“No big deal! You’re going to high school. Next thing you know you’re going to go to college.”
“If I want to go to college umma.” I told her.
“You have the same deal with your brother too. If you want to keep on staying at YG then you have to go to college.”
“Alright umma. I have to go to school now.”
“Let me take a picture of you.”
“No way! I’m leaving now!” I ran out of my room and house.
School wasn’t that far from my house. It was a fifteen minute walk so it wasn’t that bad. A lot has happened these past two years. I’m still at YG Entertainment. These past two years I’ve learned a lot and I’m continuing to learn more from there. I’m grateful that a lot of people are helping me out. I’ve gotten a lot closer to everyone from the YG Family especially Dongwook oppa and Teddy oppa. They’re really overprotective of me. I also really like Gummy unnie. She was my favorite unnie from everyone. Jiyong and Youngbae are still there too. They actually moved closer to YG Entertainment. We’re still friends. And we’re all still closer than ever. They were my best friends. I still have a crush on Jiyong. No one still knows though except for Youngbae. He found out a year ago and promised not to tell Jiyong. Even though I’m girlier, Jiyong doesn’t really notice it. He’ll always see me as a mushroom head tom boy.
“Jinhee!” I heard someone calling my name and I turned around and saw Youngbae and Jiyong.
“Hi!” I waved at them and they ran towards me.
“You’re here! Ready for your first day of high school?” Jiyong asked me.
“De. I’m nervous though!”
“Don’t be. High school isn’t so different from middle school. Plus, we’ll be here for you if you need us.” Youngbae grinned at me.
“Thank you! Let’s go then!” I said and the three of us walked into the school.
Everyone was staring at us and giving me dirty looks. Did I do something to them? I heard girls whispering things to each other. Do they not like me?
“Don’t mind them. They’re just jealous.” Jiyong smiled at me.
“D-de.” I smiled at him.
“Let’s go pick up our schedules and we’ll give you a tour of the school so you don’t get lost.” Youngbae told me.
“Okay.” I said and we walked into the office to pick up our schedule.
“Let’s see where your first class is.” Jiyong said and took my schedule from me. “Your class is near mine so if anything I’ll drop you off before I head to mine.”
“De.” I smiled at him and he smiled back at me. My heart started to beat a lot faster.
The guys gave me a tour of the school and showed me where to meet them for lunch. After touring the school, the bell rang and Jiyong walked me to my first class. We finally arrived at my room.
“Thanks for walking me here. You should go or else you’ll be late.” I smiled at him.
“No problem. If anyone gives you a hard time, just tell me. I’ll kick their for you.” He grinned at me. “I’ll see you at lunch kiddo.”
“Bye Jiyongie.” I smiled at him.
“Don’t call me that at school!” He whined.
“Why not Jiyongie?” I smirked at him.
“You’ll get it at lunch!” He said and walked off.
I walked into the classroom and everyone was just seated. I saw everyone staring at me. I looked around the room to see if any seats were empty. I saw an empty seat next to a girl. She had really long straight hair and she was really pretty. I walked over towards her.
“Is this seat taken?” I asked her.
“Ani. You can sit there.” She smiled at me.
“Thank you.” I smiled back at her and sat down next to her.
“I’m Jang Ri In.” She introduced herself.
“I’m Lee Jinhee.” I smiled at her. I couldn’t help but notice that she had a little accent. Is she not from here?
“I’m not actually Korean. I’m Chinese but I know Korean.” She told me.
Can she read minds?
“And I cannot read minds.” She laughed at me.
“Are you sure?” I laughed.
“De.”
“Whoa. So you understand Korean when you’re not? That’s so cool!” I told her.
“I guess.” She answered. “How’s your first day so far?”
“It’s okay. People are giving me dirty looks and saying bad things about me.” I pouted.
“Oh. You’re that girl.”
“What girl?” I asked.
“I overheard some girls talking about how some new girl is hanging around their oppas.” She told me.
“That’s lame.” I replied.
“Tell me about it. So how do you know those guys then? They seem popular and the girls here don’t like it.”
“They’re my best friends. We’re all trainees from YG Entertainment.” I smiled at her.
“YOU’RE TRAINEES AT YG ENTERTAINMENT?!” She shouted.
“Be quiet! And yes. Why?”
“I want to go into the entertainment world. I’ve been auditioning but no luck so far.” She said.
“Ah. Good luck! I hope you get into a company and we can meet one day!”
“Thanks! I only auditioned to SM Entertainment so I’m just waiting.”
“Ah. Well good luck!” I smiled at her.
“Thank you.”
The rest of the class went by okay. Our teachers weren’t that bad. It was lunch time and I was getting my bag when I saw Ri In just sitting there by herself.
“Hey. You’re not going to lunch?”
“I’m not hungry.” She smiled at me.
“Come sit with me.” I told her and she just nodded and followed me.
We arrived at the place where I was suppose to meet the guys. And they were there already.
“Guys I want you to meet Jang Ri In. She’s my friend. Ri In, these losers are Dong Youngbae and Kwon Jiyong.” I told them.
“Yah! We’re not losers! You’re the loser!” Jiyong told me.
“Don’t listen to that loser. I’m not a loser but he is.” Youngbae grinned at her.
“Yah!” Jiyong shouted.
“Ri In I take it back. This one is the only loser here.” I laughed.
“Nice to meet you guys.” Ri In said.
“Nice to meet you too.” Youngbae said and Jiyong didn’t say anything. He was just sitting there sulking.
“Forgive that loser. He’s still a baby.” I told her and it caused Jiyong to pout.
We spent lunch talking to one another. Well the three of us. Jiyong just sat there and didn’t say anything. Such a baby! I wanted to just smack him. Lunch was done and we walked back to our classes. I was about to walk into my class when I felt someone holding onto my arm. It was Jiyong.
“Just go in first Ri In.” I told her and she just nodded and left. “What?”
“Apologize.” He pouted.
“Why are you such a baby?” I laughed.
“First you call me Jiyongie which is uncool for my image. And then you call me a loser. And now I’m a baby?” He whined.
“And you wonder why you’re a baby.” I .
“If you don’t apologize then I’m not going to help you on your composing hw that is due tomorrow!” He said.
“Wait. I apologize! I’m sorry Jiyong. I won’t ever do it again.” I told him.
“That’s more like it.” He smirked at me.
I wanted to slap that smirk off his face but I couldn’t finish the song by tomorrow. For the last two years, we’ve been trained to compose our own music. Jiyong is the most natural at it. He can compose a song in just two days! It takes me a while and it takes Youngbae a week.
“So can you help me finish it today at the studio?” I begged him.
“Fine.” He said. “But you owe me.”
“Thanks Jiyongie!” I hugged him.
“YAH. Stop calling me that.”
“Okay.” I said.
“Go to class.” He smiled and walked away.
After school, the three of us had to go straight to the YG building to train. We arrived at the building and proceeded with our training. Today we just had to come up with a choreo for a song and perform it by the end of the day. Youngbae was coming up with the choreo while Jiyong and I were finishing my song.
“Wouldn’t it sound weird if we did it like that?” I asked him.
“No. It gives the song a different feel. It’ll be fine. Just trust me. You asked for my help didn’t you?”
“Alright. Okay so where would I put this part in?” I asked him.
“Let’s try adding that to the middle and see where it stands.” He told me.
“De.” I said.
He switched around the notes and moved it around. After a few minutes, he was done.
“Done.” He grinned at me.
“What the heck. You’re done already?! You’re a genius!” I smiled at him.
“I know.” He grinned at me. “Remember you owe me a favor!”
“Alright! I’ll owe you a favor!” I smiled at him. “Thank you!”
“No problem.” He smiled at me. “I have to admit Jinhee. You’re beginning to look more like a girl.”
“I am a girl!” I blushed.
“I know that but you’re looking more like one. I think Youngbae and I need to guard you from the guys at school. If they want to date you then they have to get through us.” He said.
“And who said I’m going to date them?”
“You may never know.” He said.
“Besides, I already have someone I like.” I told him.
“Who?! Yah why didn’t you tell us?!” Jiyong shouted.
“Stop shouting! And I’m not telling you!” I said.
“Why not?!”
“What’s with the screaming?” Youngbae came over to us.
“Jinhee likes someone and she’s not telling us!” Jiyong said and Youngbae just kept quiet.
“And why do I have to tell you guys?” I asked him.
“Because we’re your best friends! We’ll decide if that guy is good enough for you!” Jiyong said.
“You’re stupid.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Still not going to tell you.”
“Why are you calm about this Youngbae?” Jiyong asked him.
“She’ll tell us when she’s ready. Don’t force her.” Youngbae told him.
“Thank you. This is why I like you better.” I smiled at Youngbae.
“Yah. Fine give me back my song!” Jiyong said and tried to grab the paper from me.
“No! it’s mine! You said you’ll do it for me and you can’t take it back!” I told him while trying to hide the paper.
“Give me it!” He said.
“NO! I’M GOING TO-” I was about to say but he fell on top of me while trying to get the paper.
Both our faces turned red.
“GET OFF ME!” I shouted and hit him on his head which caused him to fall off of me.
“Why’d you do that for?!” He shouted at me.
“You !” I shouted at him.
“It was an accident! Besides I would never ever do anything to you! You’re not my type! You’re not even a girl to me! So you don’t have to ever worry about anything!” He told me.
I couldn’t help but feel a sting in my heart. He didn’t have to take it that far. Am I really that ugly looking to you?
“You’re a jerk.” I said and got up and walked to where my bag was and got it and walked towards the door.
“Yah. Where are you going?” He shouted after me.
“Home.” I said and left the room.
Stupid jerk. Why do I even like a guy like him? He’s such a jerk! Why can’t I just get over him?! It’s been two years and he still doesn’t notice me!
“Jinhee ah!” I heard Youngbae calling after me. “Ignore what he said. Ji’s a . Don’t be mad Jinhee. He’s immature.”
“I’m not mad. I’m just sad.” I smiled sadly at him.
“It’s been two years Youngbae and he still doesn’t notice me. Maybe I should just give up.”
“Don’t say that Jinhee. Jiyong’s just slow.”
“It’s pointless now Youngbae. I’m going to go home now.” I told him and walked away.
I got home and just went straight to my room and locked my doors. I didn’t feel like eating. Why does my heart hurt so much? Why can’t I just find someone better than Jiyong? Why does it have to be him?
