Being Parents

A whole week had already passed since I gave birth to Haejin and Haewon and just like any parent would say, it wasn't easy. With waking up in the middle of the night to crying babies, to dirty diapers and throw up. Being a parent was difficult and tiring, especially since it's our first time and not to mention we do have twins but it was all very well worth it. And I was beyond overjoyed that Kris was here to help me out for the next five weeks. We found ourselves following the routine that the twins were doing. Sleep when they sleep, eat when they eat, and taking turns cleaning up. If we didn't take advantage of their sleeping time, Kris and I would have surely pass out from sleep deprivation.

Kris and me were wrapped up snugly underneath the pile of covers, just falling asleep minutes ago when a loud wailing was heard from the room directly across from us. Both of our eyes shot open and we laid there motionless for a few seconds before Kris released a soft groan.

“I'll get this one.” He told as he unwound his arms from around my body. “You keep sleeping.”

“Okay.” I drowsily mumbled and shut my eyes to go back to sleep when a second cry was added to the first. I sighed and rubbed my sleepy eyes, “We'll both get this one.” Kris and I stumbled out of our bedroom and into the babies' nursery to calm them of their weeping. We each grabbed a baby out of the crib and soothingly rocked them side to side to placate them. With Haewon in my arms, I went over to take a seat near the window, pulling the curtains back and showing the outside world for her to see. The technique seemed to work. After a minute, her crying had stopped but a few whimpers were still released from her small pouty lips. I patted her back and continued to try and calm her down, hoping that she would be okay and fall back asleep. From across the room, Kris seem to have had success in ceasing Haejin's cries but just like me, we were both having trouble with putting them back to sleep. Kris came over and sat down beside me, the two of us leaning on each other as we our babies head to lull them back to sleep. 10 minutes or so went by and everything was silent aside from the sound of Haejin's and Haewon's soft breathing.

Kris and me glanced at each other and sighed in relief, “Finally.” We slowly rose from our seats and placed the twins back into their cribs. Once finished, we dropped down into the big chair with me landing on Kris' lap.

“Babies are tiring.” I muttered and wrapped my arms around Kris' shoulders. “But they're worth it.”

“So worth it.” He immediately agreed and hugged me close to his body. We sat in each others arms in complete silence, enjoying the peace since we weren't sure how long it would last. “I don't feel like getting up. This is too comfortable.” Kris spoke.

“Me either but if we fall asleep here we're going to wake up tomorrow with something sore.” I told.

Kris groaned at the thought of having to get up, he found this position far too inviting and comfy. He really didn't have any plans of getting up. “Why did we buy such comfortable chairs?”

“Maybe we should just stay here for a bit longer.” I suggested, eyes feeling heavy and wanting to shut and fall asleep any minute.

Kris slowly nodded his head, “That sounds nice. And it would be more convenient, the twins might wake up again and we'll be right here.”

“Yeah.” I agreed. Before I knew it, my eyes fell close and I was off it dream land, Kris not too far behind.

The morning and afternoon passed by quickly with us playing, feeding, and changing the babies. It was our routine for the past week but we couldn't be happier. It was now the evening and I was in the kitchen cooking dinner for me and Kris while he was entertaining Haejin and Haewon in the living room.

Kris rested the twin on the carpet with their heads resting on a soft pillow. He held out one of his hands beside the two babies and compared the sizes. “~~~-ah!” Kris hollered from his positioned on the floor, not moving his large hands away from the kids.

“Yeah?” I called out to him as I stirred the assortment vegetables in the pan.

“My hands are almost the same size as our twins.” Kris informed as he continued comparing the size of his hands to the length of his son and daughter. Either they were really small or his hands were just really big.

I paused my actions and let what he had just told me sink in. I turned the temperature down to low and walked out of the kitchen to see what he was talking about. I crouched down next to him and laughed when I saw that he was right. There was only a few inch difference between the two. “You and your freakishly large hands.” I commented with a shake of my head. Kris lifted his hand away from the twins and held it up to my face.

“It's almost the same size as your face.” He thoughtfully muttered. I slapped his hand away from me and glanced down at the twins innocently blinking up at me. “I thi
