What Happens in the Past Stays in the Past... Right?

Nothing But Bad Luck

Chapter One:

No One’s POV

Normal? What's normal? Doesn't everyone have one screw that's loose?  Kim Jae Min always asked herself this

question. Growing up with a biual mother who was happily in love with her father and had a girlfriend sure didn't

set up a firm ground point as to what "normal" was. It also didn't help her situation having friends from Off-Hinge

High, a high school well known for having crazy lunatics and mad geniuses.

Despite her weird situation, Jae Min was a very intelligent young lady. She was quick to respond and her deductive

reasoning skills could have been matched to the great Sherlock Holmes himself! This is why her being accepted to

Korea's finest school was no surprise to anyone except the current student body at the school. Being the finest school

in Korea of course came with the package of standards that one must meet. If one failed to meet this standard, they

were practically kicked out of any possible interaction with any other student at school. That school is named Syrina

Academy.

Unfortunately for her, her past held some interesting facts that withheld her from easily being accepted at such

prestigious school. When she was younger she had a terrible temper and believed that she could solve her

problems not with her words but with her fists. Surprisingly, she didn’t even learn how to fight through lessons

or anything like that. She learned how to fight with the help of her mother’s girlfriend and through action

movies like Drunken Master. With this unbelievable talent, she stood up for what she believed in and soon

earned the title of Thunder due to her thunderous blows she unleashed on her opponents. However she had

controlled this wild fire of strength and power because of a tragic heartbreak she had experienced when she was

in her freshman year of high school. All throughout her childhood she liked this boy. It was an innocent crush

that sprouted into love by the beginning of High School at Off-Hinge High. The only problem was that the boy

she loved had always seen her as someone in the middle of a little sister and a tomboy. His name was Kai.

She had never told Kai about her true feelings in fear of rejection and humiliation but finally she had built up

enough courage to confess to him his feelings on Christmas Eve. I mean, come- on… the toughest fighter on the

block couldn’t even say the three words that matter the most?

During this time, she was the young age of fifteen. That year’s Christmas Eve was probably the coldest and

snowiest of the years that she had lived through but still Jae was determined. That night her school was the

having a party at one of the school’s sponsor’s house. However there was a moment during the party when they

all ran out of cake. So Jae Min took that as her opportunity to go and confess to Kai. She urged for him to go

with her to buy cake and once they were out in the cold she started to think on how she would approach the

situation. By the time they had already bought the cake and were close to where the party was being held, she

still didn’t have a way to start. So once they were about a block away from the party house, she grabbed his arm

and looked him in the eye.

SWITCH TO JAE’S POV

“What is it?” Kai asked with a sincere smile.

That smile…. That’s the smile that I fell for.

“Umm…I just…” I sputtered too nervous to even continue. I looked him in the eye and felt my knees go weak.

I can’t do this! I can’t ruin our friendship! I can’t confess!

“What is it Jae? You’re acting so weird.” He said calmingly and reached out to brush a piece of stray hair away from

my face. I blushed and I looked down. I shut my eyes closed and took a deep breath.

It’s now or never JJ!

“I LIKE YOU!” I nearly shouted into the night sky. There was silence. For a long time there was silence. I was too

afraid to look at his face. The tension that I felt at that moment was so thick that I was sure you could slice through

it with a knife.

MEOW!!! I jumped. Startled by a cat that had walked by, I accidentally looked into his eyes and the expression that I

saw was not one that I dreamed off constantly. It was a mix of disappointment, anger and betrayal.

“Why?” He said through gritted teeth.

“W-W-What do you m-m-mean?” I stuttered. I was so confused at what he meant.

“Why do you have to like me? Can’t we just be friends?” He muttered through gritted teeth once more and my

eyebrows pulled together.

“Why did you have to go and complicate things Jae?” He continued. There was silence once again. Suddenly he

shook his head in disappointment.

“I trusted you not to fall for me. That’s why I was friends with you. But no... You had to go and ruin out perfectly

fine relationship. Now we can’t even be friends.” He said nonchalantly. As his words spilled out of his mouth, my

mouth slowly opened in devastation.

This couldn’t be happening. No, this was a dream. He wasn’t really saying this to me.

My mind started to go in a blank. My heart started to slowly rip in two. I saw his mouth moving in slow motion but for

some reason I couldn’t comprehend what he was saying to me. It stayed like that for a few minutes which seemed like

forever.

In the end, he walked away pissed and I walked away empty handed and heart empty. However I never even cried

once.

(Fast forward to the first week of school of the New Year…)

No One’s POV

She was a zombie walking the hallways of Off-Hinge High. No one dared to talk to her and no one dared to even

be in the same space as her. For a long time she drifted from class to class, day in and day out. For about a

month she was like this. She never talked to Kai and he never tried to contact her. Until one fateful day she

walked by the basketball court. She didn’t even notice Kai playing basketball there and of course he didn’t

notice her there either.

Jae’s POV

“Hey, isn’t that chick the girl who confessed to you?” Some male voice said and my mind started to function

once again.

Confessions… pfft. They’re all just a lie fed to girls… My inner voice told me.

“Yeah, good thing she gave up too.” Kai’s voice rang through the cold air, striking me to my senses.

Wait was that Kai? What did he say? I thought.

“What do you mean man?” Another male voice said.

“She’s a total freak. I mean, who would go out with a girl who dresses like THAT. Do you guys even know her

reputation?” Kai said not caring about who would over hear.

“Yo man, what’s her story?” I heard a snicker and I had the urge to look up but I couldn’t. It was like I was frozen

in my place.

“She’s called the Thunder. She’s notorious for her frequent fights she has in the neighborhood. I was only

sticking close to her because I knew no one would pick on me if I was with her.” Kai admitted truthfully.

He was just using me?...

“She’s nothing more than a bodyguard to me. And to think that she developed feelings for me? Yuck. No one

wants a tomboy for a girlfriend especially a girl who comes home bleeding every night.” Something inside of me

flared to life. Anger, betrayal and so many other emotions exploded out of my soul. After weeks of numbed

senses and emotions, the rush of feelings that blasted me nearly knocked me off my feet. Then suddenly, one

thought overrode the other desires.

Revenge…

Now… when you piss someone with the strength of a thousand warriors piled up into one petite body, you’re

either extremely stupid or… extremely stupid. The rage that I unconsciously tucked away burst and my attack

began. My legs moved on their own and like a speeding bullet I dashed for Kai. My eyes locked on his head with

one intention. Once Kai realized what was happening, it was too late. I was already too close for him to have

enough time to run. When I was close enough I jumped, turned and landed a solid kick on Kai’s face. Smoothly

executed and expertly done, I landed on my feet and turned to face the collapsed Kai. After he received the

kick, he went flying towards his group of guy friends who just slightly caught him. All their faces were copies of

Kai’s expression. The expression of mixed amazement and horror was written all over their faces.

“W-w-what was that for?” Kai tried to scream but it came out like a croak. I looked him straight in his eyes.

“That was for lying about and then breaking our friendship.”  I stated clearly as he struggled to get up. With the help

of his friends, he was back on his two feet. I walked a little closer to him and smirked when I saw him cringe slightly.

“And this is for breaking my heart.” I whispered in his ear and I did what any normal girl would do. I kneed him in the

nuts. He screamed, his face going red and he clutched his balls. Like a tower, he slowly tilted forward and once

again he collapsed. I looked at his crumpled from and shook my head.

How did I come to like this kid?

I looked at the rest of the guys who just stood there. Judging by their expressions, they didn’t know what to do. I

smirked and my heel. I walked off like a warrior walks off after one had won a battle. Once I was out of

sight though. A tear slipped from my eyes. I wiped it away and looked at it.

I ditched the rest of school that day and went to the park. That was the only time the flow of the tears rushed out.

Not stopping for a very long time, they continued to just pour.

Kai, the boy that I knew since diapers, betrayed my trust, my life, and my heart.

When I sat on the swing, the sun was still high overhead but by the time I was done crying, the sun was already

setting. I looked at the horizon through my clouded eyes and a new fire was ignited within me. I was going to reform

myself. No longer was I going to be titled a tomboy and a fighter. I decided at that moment that I would give up my

fighting ways and learn to control my temper. I clenched my hand into a fist over my heart and basked in the light

given off by the setting sun. The sun slowly went down and with it, my rebelliousness faded.

Once the sun was nearly out of sight, I shot up and left the park.

From that point on, I changed the way I looked, acted and viewed thing in life. I used my brains and not my fists to

win my battles. I had turned a new leaf. For four years my record was clean.

Kai had transferred out of school off to somewhere far away and I lived my life in peace for the next four years.

I was happy.

Until I met him…

No One’s POV

That day she had bolted from the park, she had not noticed her treasured necklace fall slowly from her pocket on to the cold

and frosted ground.

Meanwhile when Jae was crying…

Yongguk, the son of one of the wealthiest families in the city of Seoul was once again rebelling against his parents.

After running away from home when he was junior in high school he runs into an empty park about three miles away

from his home. He ran away from home because his parents were once again forcing him into inheriting the company

at a young age of 17 by arranging a marriage with some big company’s daughter he’s never met. His parents would

never understand that he wanted to live his life a little before he had to be chained down for the company.

Once he walked a few yards into the park he heard soft sniffling. He slowly followed the sound and saw a girl sitting

on the swing, crying. Wait… was that a girl? Yes, he was sure it was a girl. Even through her ragged dress and boyish

looks, he could tell that she was cute. However she had bruises on her arms and shins. They were the type of

bruising that one obtained through fighting. So this girl’s a fighter…cool. He saw by a tree making sure he was out of

her line of sight and waited until she would stop crying. Listening to her quiet sob got him thinking.

Yongguk’s POV

What would have made this tough looking girl cry so hard?

“That stupid bastard… I trusted him. Why?” She said, barely audible to my ears but I heard it nonetheless.

So she had someone break her trust? Sounds similar to my situation at home, my parents always break my trust…

I-I-I confessed to him for nothing… I thought he would understand too…” She continued while she sobbed. I sat

there and strained my ears to hear more. I knew it was bad to eavesdrop but rules are made to be broken.

“We even knew each other since diapers… Whatever. It wasn’t worth it anyway.” Then she grew quiet once more

except for the continuous sobs.

Huh… So her heart was broken by a guy she knew since childhood. … The question is why though…

Soon enough though, she started to speak again.

“I-I-Is it disgusting to be interested in fighting? *sob* Is it the idea of going out with a girl who doesn’t like skirts that

bad?” Unknowingly, I shook my head in reply to her questions.

Ahhh… so the guy rejected her because she’s a tomboy. What a jerk. I would go out with her if she was worth it.

I sat there for a little while longer without realizing that minutes then hours were passing. I sat there listening to her

sobbing and my current situation at home. It was a very long time before I leaned over and listened.

Wait a minute, the sobbing stopped. Did she know that someone was listening to her?

Slowly, I peeked over and saw her staring at the horizon. I turned and looked at what she was gazing at too. It was

the sunset.

Had he been sitting there the whole time listening to her?

Suddenly the overcoming urge to cheer her up swept through me. It was as if the sun had lit a new path of life to

me. Startled by this sudden urge, I turned to face her once again and saw an amazingly beautiful expression on her

face.

It was one of determination, pride, courage and everything that a person would need to start a new life. Her delicate

features were turned up towards the horizon and her hand clenched in a fist over her heart. She looked like an angel

warrior ready to face another battle.

I placed a hand over my heart and realized that it was thumping so hard against my rib cage.

What is this feeling? Is this…Love?

It was at this moment that I swore to myself that I would one day be the reason why this heavenly warrior would

laugh and smile for the rest of her life.

The girl stood up and ran off, not noticing that something had fallen from her pocket. I went over and picked it up.

It was a necklace with an unusual pendant. I would give it back to her once I found her again.

No One’s POV

From that point on, Yongguk visited that same park constantly. He was, of course, searching for his angel warrior.

However his efforts were in vain. Jae had returned to that park once to search for her necklace but then never came

back. So Yongguk never saw her again. He looked for that nameless girl.  For four years straight he searched

constantly until he was about to give up… when he met her again…

Little did he know his warrior had many more surprises hidden up her sleeve…

But that’s another story entirely…
