[Tao’s POV]

I trudged towards my locker grudgingly. Everything about this school irked me somehow, from their annoying squeaking chairs to those disgusting toilets. Not to mention that I hadn’t even been here for what, two days and I’d already made enemies with some guy I barely knew.

I slammed my locker open with as much force as I could - I was that pissed off. Checking my timetable to see what first period was just made everything worse.

“Why is my life such a wreck?” I muttered furiously, fists clenched in anger. People around me cast me weird glances as if I was some freak from another planet. I am not a ing freak from another ing planet.

I sighed as I grabbed my books for class, closed my locker and turned back around to look straight at face.

Not even 5 seconds of reaction time.

He backed me into a wall, eyes never leaving mine. I felt my knees turn to jelly when I stared back into his sharp, angular face but stood my ground.

“And what do we have here?” He mocked, pulling out a piece of paper from my backpack. “Oh, it’s a letter from your mom telling the teacher to excuse you from any rigorous activities. Tch. Grow up, won’t cha?”

Again, I was pushed back by him and his gang. The air was suffocating - a strong sense of claustrophobia soon engulfed me. What did I do to offend him? What?

“You seem pretty relaxed, huh?” He said as a smirk played on his lips. “Not frightened in the least.”

I swallowed and forced myself to look up again. Everything about him intimidated me, especially his damn height. How could someone be this tall?

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” I replied lamely.

He smirked again and cracked his knuckles, leaning in closer to me. I could feel a minty gust of air settling in on my cheeks and knew I was blushing.

“Well, when life gives you Kris Wu...”

Those lips curled up into a smile.

“ just got real.”

******

Kris Wu, Kris Wu... die NOW.

“Yah, why are you so late?” Baekhyun eyed me accusingly as I made my way into the seat next to him. “You’re lucky the teacher is too. Usually he’s the first one in the class.”

“Whatever. I can’t be that late if The Gang isn’t here either.”

He seemed to know exactly what gang I was referring to even though I barely said anything. “Yeah, but they’re exceptions. Did you know they once beat a teacher up so badly he had to sent straight for intensive care?”

“Wouldn’t be surprised.” I shuddered and imagined my future fate.

Baekhyun went on, completely ignoring the sudden awkwardness between us. Or maybe he was just that oblivious. “The worst guy you can get in trouble with is Kris - he’s the leader of them and apparently the most ruthless. He wouldn’t hesitate to even pour acid on y -”

“I think I’ve heard enough.”

“No, wait, let me go on-”

“Enough!” Breakfast was already making its way up my throat at an extremely alarming rate and my face felt greenish.

What sin did I commit in my past life to have the gang leader hate me so much?!

“Alright, alright,” Baekhyun muttered and turned away from me. “You don’t have to get all snappy.” His face was red, obviously upset with my lack of interest in the topic. I sighed. No matter what, he was still my first friend here and a pretty good one at that. I shouldn’t have snubbed him like that.

“Sorry. What were you saying?”

“Nothing...” He mumbled while rubbing furiously at the pencil marks on a worksheet.

I tried again. “Hey. I’m serious - I’m really sorry.”

“It’s fine.”

“So what were you saying before I so rudely interrupted you?”

“Do you like Kris?” He blurted out.

What.

.

.

.

The.

.

.

.

.

My voice was coated in disbelief. “Are you kidding me?”

“He seems to bask in your attention a lot,” Baekhyun stammered, his face now a much deeper red. “I can’t help thinking there’s something going on between the two of you.”

“Something going on, huh?” By now, I was pissed. I rolled up the sleeve of one arm and shoved it over to him with a scowl outlining my face. There was a long, bloody scratch on the surface of my skin. “This is what’s going on between us.”

His eyes widened. “The hell...”

“I don’t even know what I did to him.” Frustrated, I flopped down on the table. Baekhyun sighed and looked away. “I guess this wasn’t the right time for me to tell you, huh?”

“Tell what?”

“Nothing. Really... nothing.”

“Tell me now.”

He refused to meet my gaze, apparently uncomfortable with the idea of saying it but gave in anyway.

“I like Chanyeol.”
