Foreword

[Breaking News: Mercedes Golden Girl Son Seungwan leaves the team after four seasons, joining Kim Minjeong in Red Bull Racing as their main driver to challenge her former team]

Motorsports journalist Kim Doyoung tears his attention away from the gigantic screen display and locks eyes with Formula One pundit Max Changbin, who looks displeased with the news. Doyoung doesn't jump in to say much because Changbin isn't the only one exhibition distaste, the other two Motorsports experts aren't happy either.

“I think Red Bull have taken a huge gamble here,” Sandra Park works her fingers on her tablet, displaying some stats on the main screen just a couple of seconds later. “Going for a Mercedes driver is just so unlikely of them and that too a second driver. They sure are optimistic if they think this can end their decade-long championship drought."

Max Changbin nods at her comments and zooms in on his tablet screen to focus on the championship results of the newly revealed Red Bull Racing driver, “In the past four seasons her best finish has been P3 in the Drivers Championship. Considering her career before Formula One and the cars Mercedes have built, I think these results are not on merit.”

“Personally, I think Red Bull Racing as a team are moving forward toward a new generation where they are prioritising raw talent over experience,” Doyoung breaks the long chain of constant criticism as he shares his two cents on the breaking news.

“I understand that they are trying to step into a new era with these new regulations but the talent pool is still so vast and yet they have gone with such an underwhelming driver lineup,” Doyoung controls the urge to roll his eyes upon listening to the notorious pundit Lee Eunhyuk open his mouth.

“Their second driver Kim Minjeong has spent three seasons in Formula Three and her best season finish is P3. Upon spending two seasons in Formula Two she only managed P5 in both of them. Meanwhile the new Mercedes driver Yoo Jimin who has raced beside her since her karting days has already been crowned a double Formula Three champion and she's the defending Formula Two champion,” Eunhyuk tone is dripping with poison and it makes Doyoung think that maybe he has some personal vendetta against the driver. It doesn't seem like he's reading out stats from a tablet screen, the middle aged man is belittling the young driver and there is nothing he can do.

“Then we have Son Seungwan as their main driver. The former Mercedes second driver only managed a career best P3 in last year's Drivers Championship and has barely contributed to Mercedes Constructors Championship during her time with the team. She has only graced the top step of the podium five times despite driving those Mercedes rocketships. If we take a dive into her Formula Three and Formula Two Championship victories…I'd reckon they are pretty underwhelming if we compare the completion she was against—Labelling her as a Golden Girl is reach if you ask me,” Eunhyuk is ruthless as he continues to belittle the driver on national television with no remorse whatsoever.

Doyoung thinks this is straight up disregard against the drivers and it must be stopped, he does look at other experts in case anyone wants to refute the claims made by Eunhyuk but it seems like there are none as they allow the man to keep nitpicking both drivers before they move on to discuss other teams.

“Before we close out the show let's name our predictions for this year's Drivers and Constructors Championship,” It's the end of the show and Doyoung is relieved that he has managed to host it for two hours without crossing the line once, it's an achievement in his books.

“Kang Seulgi and Ferrari,” Max Changbin mutters.

“Jennie Kim and Mclaren,” Sandra Park names her picks.

“Mercedes and Bae Joohyun,” Eunhyuk chimes.

“Red Bull and Son Seungwan,” Doyoung says confidently.

A loud chuckle escapes from Eunhyuk's mouth as the rest of pundits begin to laugh too but it doesn't budge Doyoung.

“That's an optimistic choice, Doyoung-ssi,” Eunhyuk snarls.

“I am backing my choice to do the talking on the circuit, Eunhyuk-ssi,” Doyoung smirks.

It's going to be lights out soon, let's see who gets away first.

Started reading this and not gonna lie, I’m slightly scared wenrene not ending up together at the end of the story. But based on the comments, the ending is realistic and the epilogue might give me that happy ending so I’ll still read it since the first few chapters are so indulging. I hope we can get that epilogue as soon as it is finished! No pressure, otor-nim! We’ll patiently wait for your update.

Now, back to reading 🤓

Chapter 12: Finally I got the chance to read the last 5 chapters of this and I can't believe I teared up at the end. Seungwan and Joohyun got their happy ending but not together. The hospital scene is honestly one of the best things I have ever read the emotions were immaculate with Joohyun finally confessing after realising that she may have lost the love of her life in that accident and Seungwan finally getting to hear that confessions on the brink of death just was the last straw for her to beg Joohyun to let go of her, a selfish decision but she actually did Joohyun a favour too.

The was heart touching with both of them still harbouring feeling yet choosing the suppress them for each others sake. I am sure they are going to get a second go at their story in the epilogue and I am excited for that.

Chapter 11: I thought that i would articulate my words well if i reread this with a peaceful mind. It turns out that i was wrong because rereading this still feels so heavy and i don't know what to say when I'm an emotional mess. This is just soooo sooo good

Chapter 13: A good separation. From your note at the end, it might seem there's still an epilogue to the story but at least this direction of the story is really good. Really want to give my whole review about this story and how good your writing is considering it's really rare to see good written RPF characters these days. It feels like these days writers were influenced by either whatever the f happening in the fandom or whatever the comments said and forgot about the essence of the fiction itself, which is stick the characters to the story that they have built.

One thing that I really like about these latest two chapters is, it tells the readers that both Seungwan and Joohyun can be at their best when they are not together. Joohyun could still get her last championship and Seungwan finally got what she wanted in the previous season. It's clear from the very start, their love was a mess, and what I love about this writing compares to other fics is you point out that love is not some magical bull that can erase all those mess and complicated circumstances. Everything has stakes, and its causal effect. I also like that the title drop happened in the most important moment for both characters literally and figuretively.

I know lots of readers don't like angsty fics because they just want to see their favorite ships end up together in general, but I think this fic is one of those angst fic that is really well written from the start to the finish. Thank you author for making this great story. Btw Hamilton going to Ferrari is crazy, and I'd bet nobody 10 years ago would ever imagine Hamilton would ever leave Mercedes.

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: I don't think I could think of a better ending, honestly. Despite thinking that the fairest thing would be for Seungwan to continually beat Joohyun, Joohyun giving up her career shows that she already understands that Seungwan is more important than all that, than races, victories, podiums, than anything.

The ending of Seungwan just making donuts with her was honestly touching, Joohyun choosing her, God why does it all seem so painful? Even Seungwan gives her the helmet full of memories, damn, it hurts, and I'm probably the only one who feels that lol

I wish that Seungwan becomes legendary, and that Joohyun finally forgives herself for what she did and tries to win Seungwan back, of course it won't be easy, but I'm sure that eventually Seungwan will forgive her too.

Great story author-nim! great ending, I couldn't think of anything better, I just wish that in the future we can take a peek at some from Joohyun dom? Yes? No? In fact, anything you bring us I will be grateful.

Thanks for the hard work.

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: I'm infinitely happy with Seungwan's victory, watching her fight her feelings throughout the championship made me root for her more than anyone.

The way she automatically looked for Joohyun during the victory to make sure that her victory was truly on her own merit, shows that anything Joohyun does will still affect her, unlike Joohyun, victory for her is not everything.

She gave the medal to Joohyun and broke any bond between them, it hit Joohyun like a bullet, it also hit me that way.

But it is necessary so that they can start from scratch.

Chapter 13: This can't be happening... I am not prepared for this to end...
But thank you so much for this wonderful and emotional story! Congrats on finishing!!!

I really enjoyed reading this. Loved the plot and the way you write the relationship of the characters. Honestly, this is really a fresh read considering how writers these days only write plotless fic.
