Chapter 3 | Who’s with who?

Joy was a bit embarrassed when she opened the door of the shotgun seat of Seulgi’s car. She saw Wendy sitting there. Maybe it was a force of habit on her end.

“Oh, were you supposed to sit here?” Wendy worriedly asked and was ready to get off.

“No worries, Wendy. You can have it.” Joy replied and hurriedly sat on the passenger seat.

“Oh god, Wendy! Joy might cry, that’ supposed to be her throne,” Seulgi just couldn’t pass the opportunity to cousin again. This is just how she is.

“Don’t mind me. Seulgi’s just messing with you. Really, Wendy, it just slipped off my mind you’re here.” Joy smiled at Wendy, who looks so guilty. With Wendy around, she’d miss the times that it was just her and Seulgi. But she’s happy though. At least her Seulgi wouldn’t be alone knowing her best friend’s parents are always away.

“Are we waiting for someone?” Wendy asked. They were still not moving out the gate of Joy’s house.

“Yeah, why aren’t you driving? We’ll be late!” Joy raised her eyebrow and tried making a mess of Seulgi’s hair.

And just on cue, the door beside Joy opened.

“Sorry, I’m late.” Irene urged Joy to move a bit so she can sit beside her sister.

“Ate?” Joy was shocked at what is happening. She didn’t see her sister earlier at breakfast so she assumed her ate went off early.

“My car won’t start.” Irene shrugged. “Hi, Wendy! Welcome back!” She greeted her fake girlfriend’s cousin. At this point, she doesn’t know how Seulgi would break the news of their fake relationship with Joy. They didn’t talk about it last night. All she knew was they were just driving home with the speakers blaring loud. None of them spoke a word after the incident at the top of the bridge.

“How’d you know Ate Irene’s going with us?” Joy asked Seulgi specifically.

“She texted me.” Seulgi coolly said and shrugged as she stepped on the gas.

“Wow, so both of you are text-mates now?” Joy looked at her sister to pry for details.

“Well, something like that.” Irene shrugged too just like Seulgi did but on the inside, she was panicking. Joy’s being her usual Enola Holmes self again. Every time her sister would open , Irene just can’t help and was nervous. She isn’t used to getting anxious about what she’s going to answer. “Anyway, what’s your major, Wendy?”

“AB Communications. It’s a good thing most of my units were credited. So, I’m a sophomore just like Seulgi and Joy.” Wendy excitedly answered.

“Oh, just like Joy? At least you won’t be alone.” Irene knew Wendy’s around Seulgi and Joy’s age. She knew Wendy since when they were kids, her parents and Seulgi’s and Wendy’s, are friends.

“How about you, Ate Irene? What are you majoring in?” Wendy was too shy to ask. There was a lot she doesn’t know. And if these are the people around Seulgi, she should better start knowing them as well.

“I’m taking up Biology. I’m a junior.” Irene replied. She can feel how her anxiousness is the same as Wendy’s. It’s like both of them are inside a world only exclusive to Joy and Seulgi.

“We’d be finished with our majors but Seulgi and Ate Irene will still be studying.” Joy butted in while checking her phone.

“Seulgi’s too ambitious. She wants to be a lawyer just like her parents.” Wendy said as she looks at her cousin.

“Why? Did I question your dream to be on tv reporting on some scoop? You and Joy just want to get the attention, if I know.” Seulgi teased Wendy back.  

No one could ever top Seulgi’s comebacks, that’s for sure, Irene thought to herself. She wouldn’t want to go against Seulgi judging on what she saw today. She thinks Seulgi would be a very good lawyer in the future.

“Yeah, yeah! You win, Attorney Kang!” Joy had to do something. It looks like Wendy didn’t know what to say next. It’s like Seulgi’s being a little extra today.

“Irene, will you still need a ride later?” Seulgi shouted at her fake girlfriend. It looked like Irene was rushing the moment they parked the car.

“Nah, I’m good. Thanks,
