Eun’s diary

It has finally arrived! My special gift to my dear wife has finally arrived today! Of course that meant I had to spend a great deal of time sorting out the goods from the newly arrived ship but heck! What does that matter? My gift is here! Oh boy I sure hope she’ll like it! I’ve always felt bad for missing her birthday this year, being out in the sea leaving her at home all by herself, and I hope I can make up for it with this gift. I’ve also got something for my baby boy too~ My Ho, my dear little tiger, he’s grown quite cute and chubby now and it seems like he can actually see me at last! He would fix his gaze at my eyes and smile when I play peek-a-boo with him. And sleep, gosh the amount of sleep we’ve been getting has slowly gone back to normal though my wife would still have to get up 2 to 3 times every night to feed him. To be honest, I’m quite amazed that we’ve been doing quite alright as parents for the past 2 months, of course I can get all the credit, the Gu’s have been an enormous help and so naturally I got them a gift too. Now that my wife has recovered from her delivery, she insisted to cook by herself so as to not bother the Gu’s as often anymore. I’d say, her cooking did improve during my absence. Mrs. Gu would still bring over some side dishes every now and then but she understood that my wife would like to do things herself if she could help it, the way she would before she became a mother. Oh, seems like someone has messed up the goods, I better check it out before captain comes in.

(That evening)

‘Who’s the good baby? Who’s the most handsome baby in the whole universe? You are!’

(Eun coos at his son as they shared tummy time together in bed. Every now and then, Ho will try to lift his heavy head up but then gives up and rests his head back on Eun’s chest)

‘Don’t worry lad, if you eat more, you’ll grow strong enough to do that.’

(The father comforts the little baby as he massages his little feet)

‘Ho yah…daddy’s got a gift for mummy, you think mummy will like it? I see you already like my gift to you so I guess your mummy will like her gift too, huh?’

(Ho looks at Eun as if he has forgotten the gift Eun has brought back for him)

‘Yah dude, don’t give daddy that look! The silk ball, remember? You’ve been holding on to it since I gave it to you, you even went to nap with it a few hours ago!’

(Hearing Eun raise his voice, Ho breaks down in tears)

‘Aigoo, aigoo~ Don’t cry lad, sorry, daddy’s sorry. Daddy’s not mad at you, stop crying now or mummy’s gonna kill me. Shhhh, good boy, don’t cry.’

(But Ho cries even louder. Eun sniffs hard then laughs.)

‘Oh I see! You made a poo poo didn’t you? Here, let me sort it out for you. Up we go! Let’s change your stinky napkin~’

‘Darling? Is everything alright?’

(Soondeok calls from the kitchen)

‘Yeah yeah! All’s good! He just needs to get changed! I’ve got it.’

‘Is he asleep?’

‘Yes, finally.’

(Soondeok comes out of their bedroom. Eun’s been sitting at the table waiting for her outside.)

‘What’s wrong, Oppa? Is there something serious you want to say to me?’

‘No, why?’

‘Well, you made tea.’

‘As I always have done every evening.’

‘Jasmine tea.’

‘Ah, that…’

‘Is everything alright at work?’

(Soondeok goes over to her husband to give his shoulders a soft massage)

‘Work’s fine…actually…there’s something I want to give you…You know how I’ve brought a gift to Ho, and one to the Gu’s?’

‘Yes, it was so sweet of you, Oppa.’

‘You didn’t think I’d forget about you, did you? Here! Tada! Do you like it?’

‘What is it, Oppa?’

‘Unwrap it~ It’s a dagger! A silver dagger! Captain knows a talented craftsman living beyond the sea and this arrived today!’

(Soondeok marvels at the design and her smile stayed on her face for a very long time. But then, she puts it back down.)

‘Oppa, I can’t. I can’t keep this.’

‘Why not?’

‘I can’t let anyone know that…you know…that I once was a warrior. I want to live here for a very long time, Oppa…I want our son to grow up here…I can’t afford any mistake, any suspicion…’

(Eun grabs hold of his wife’s hands)

‘Darling, you’ve given up much for me already. The last thing I would like is for me to take away the one thing you love doing. Martial arts is part of you, it’s what makes you you!’

‘But Oppa-’

‘I saw you the other day, while I was coming back from work…I saw you in the garden with a stick in your hand, swinging it as if it was a sword. That’s when I realized how much you’ve missed that part of yourself.’

‘I’m a mother now, Oppa, and your wife. I’ve given up my warrior life to marry you.’

‘Indeed. But I want you to hold on to this. I won’t always be here to protect you and Ho…in case something happens, at least you’ll have this to protect you and our son with.’

‘But-’

‘Besides, I spent a great deal of money on this so I’m not gonna take it back.’

‘Oh Oppa, thank you so much…I didn’t even prepare anything for you.’

‘You still got time, my birthday’s a few weeks away~ There there, don’t cry! What is it with you and Ho? You two are always crying-’

(Soondeok throws herself to her husband, giving him her ‘Thank You’ kiss. She gently places her hands on Eun’s neck, spreading her fingers to softly touch his ears which has already turned rosey red. Soondeok sits on his lap and wraps her lets around her husband’s waist. Eun returns the passion just as much. He pushes away the dagger that’s on the table to make room and with a single heave, he has Soondeok on her back against the table.)

‘You won’t refuse tonight, right Oppa?’

(Soondeok questions softly as Eun lightly kisses her neck)

‘We’re already in this position, love, you think I’m gonna back down now?’

‘Finally~ But please, shut your eyes.’

‘You may as well tell me to stop.’

‘Or blow out the candle.’

‘This isn’t one of your “I don’t have confidence with my body” nonsense again is it?’

‘Oppa, I pushed out a baby 2 months ago. My belly still has marks and-’

(Eun takes off his top, revealing his broad torso, tanned and muscular)

‘Deok ah, none of that matters to me. I’m here to satisfy you tonight, understand?’

(Soondeok runs her hands along Eun’s strong arms, feeling every vein visible)

‘Upstairs, Oppa, take me upstairs. I know we used to enjoy doing this on the table but I’m getting old and my back’s not liking the idea. The bed upstairs will do.’
