An Old Friend
VoyageHyesung opening his car window, let the cool wind greeting him, such a fresh air, so different from what he breathe in Seoul. Beside him, he can see a humble two storey house built by woods with a large yard surround it, and a big open fireplace from stones on the ground, definitely a hand-made.
Looks homey—comfortable, it’s a cabin kinda house in countryside but surprisingly not so out of place from the others, stand out but also blending perfectly.
“It’s so him.”
“It’s really him, wait ‘till you see the interior, it screams Dongwan hyung so much.” Junjin chuckled, remember the first time he came and made a visit here.
Smile a little, Hyesung turn his head—looking at Junjin who sit on passenger seat, playing with his phone still.
“Why you hide it?”
Shrug his shoulder, “He asked it, and to be honest hyung,” put his phone away, Junjin then also looking at Hyesung, “it feels like I’m the only one who miss him much, we never talk about him—not at all. I mean, I know it’s such a sensitive thing, but yeah.”
It’s a vague sentence—but Hyesung knew the meaning very well. Junjin was right. The day Dongwan decided to left them all years ago, they never mentioned his name again, at least not when they’re together, the five of them.
“I miss him too.”
Sighing, Junjin pats Hyesung arms. “But you never said it hyung. I tried so hard to found him, when I got his address last year, I was so happy. I canceled my schedules of the day and came here hurriedly.”
“Then?”
“Then—Dongwan hyung banged his door in front of my face.”
“What?”
“Avoiding me, us. What else?”
“After all these years?”
Nodding his head, Junjin give his hyung a bitter smile. “Sadly, yes. But I was persistent, I drove here almost every weekends. He still cares a lot, he just didn’t want to involved in our life again, I think.”
“Then why you told me his whereabouts last night?”
“Cause you’re being ridiculous, hyung.” Junjin says the matter of factly, what happened last night flashing in their eyes clearly. “Break off your engagement with Eric hyung, seriously?”
“He’s the ridiculous one,” Hyesung retaliates, “if he want Shinhwa in our wedding, then it need to be six. All of us.”
Sighing again, Junjin glances his eyes to the front, looking at the afternoon sky. “I tell you this because I’m agree that we need to fix our relationship with Dongwan hyung—but please, don’t push him to join us if he don’t want it hyung.”
“Why?!” Hyesung sounds a bit shock. “You don’t want him to back? To Shinhwa?”
“I want him to be happy, hyung.” Junjin still not looking at Hyesung even he knows his hyung eyeing him right now. “And he’s happy here, he’s loved by his neighborhood, he loves his work too. While, everytime I mention our name—the hurt is so visible on his eyes. He decided what best for him ten years ago, let him be.”
Junjin maybe right or it could be right, but Hyesung has another perspective. Like what he said last night to all of them—to Eric. They were angered by what Dongwan did. Shocked and bewildered. But also was caught off guard by the unexp
