Together Will Be Better

“ Want me to refill your cup again or you already want to go home for today? “ Eunbi looked up from her trance as she heard a very familiar blabber from one of her close friend.

Yabuki Nako came in view with her black apron, holding the empty cup that was filled with coffee a while ago. Eunbi blinked a couple of times to register what Nako just said, which she then answered with a small smile.

“ Can you please refill it once again? I’ll go home at the exact time as I always have, “

The younger between the two sighed and excused herself to make Eunbi’s order. Eunbi nodded as a response and continued staring at the glass window. Rain was pouring very hard nowadays but that never stopped Eunbi from doing what she always does.

She will keep the promise as long as her heart stays where it has been these whole years.

Nako came back with a freshly-made coffee and a slice of rainbow cake. The girl plopped herself to the vacant seat in front of Eunbi when Eunbi noticed the missing apron on her body.

“ Your shift is over? “ Eunbi stirred her hot coffee, adding some sugars in it.

The brown haired girl nodded, “ It was supposed to be over within the next fifteen minutes but my manager said I should just accompany you here, “

“ Oh, sorry, did she want me to go home now? “

Nako took a spoonful of the cake she prepared for Eunbi, seeing how the older haven’t touched it and wasn’t going to, “ Nah. There weren’t many people left so she gave me a break. I’ve been working since morning anyway, “ 

Silence started to linger around the two as Eunbi darted her gaze to outside again. Nako took a moment, watching the older’s appearance. She was still the same Kwon Eunbi from years of their friendship. Smooth black hair that was cut short during this month, small face with a beauty of a model, and the same sophisticated woman vibes she always radiated. One couldn’t tell the difference of Kwon Eunbi throughout this four years, but her circle of friends could and Nako is one of them.

The eyes that always shines as bright as the twinkling stars, the warmth which it belonged to, was missing. The radiant smile she always has was replaced with a little smile, a forced one. What’s more her mind, though she never once failed to response to a conversation, was stucked somewhere else.

Or rather, someone else.

“ Unnie, “ Nako unknowingly called out to Eunbi.

Eunbi turned her attention to the café’s barista, “ Yes? “

“ Do you… still believe she will be back? “ Nako asked slowly, afraid of breaking the fragile heart which belonged to the businesswoman. Eunbi stayed silent for awhile, her eyes stayed staring at the coffee she sipped. The coffee was pitch black in color but strangely, Eunbi could see her own reflection on it.

“ You know, Nako, “ Eunbi started, but instead of answering, she ended up re-telling a moment in her past.

“ I always remembered the first time we met. She was still the well-known emotionless honor student while I’m the council president, also an honor student, “ Eunbi sipped her coffee bit by bit, enjoying the not-so-bitter feeling she became fond of.

“ I was so tired asking for her help since she never cared about the school, much less the events, but she was an honor student so she needs to participate, “

Nako wore a surprised face as she heard the untold part of the story. Until now, the others only knew that the couples became closer during their time as honor students, with Eunbi’s hot-headedness that made her lover finally accepted the task given.

Eunbi lightly chuckled at the sight, “ We never told anyone about this. She even didn’t tell Sakura nor Chaewon, “

“ What is in the deal? “ Nako asked. Hearing how she didn’t tell the two closest allies of hers was quite shocking, considering the two girls always knew everything about their boss.

“ If she helps the honor students, she will be freed from all of the school’s obligations. Including attendances, “

Eunbi closed her eyes as her mind traveled back to the certain memory, “ I know. But that’s the only thing I could offer that will intrigued her. The school already agreed about it too, “
