chapter 1
The heart never lies
"!"
Seulgi cursed when she saw the time. It was 8:40am already.
She quickly got up from her bed and run towards the bathroom. Hurriedly, she took a shower and then got dressed.
Although her boss is a kind man and doesn't really mind if she arrives late -- he knows about her working late at night at a convenience store-- she still wants to arrive on time.
She doesn't want to abuse his kindness.
Glancing at the clock, Seulgi cursed again when she realized that she only have twenty minutes left before her shift starts.
She grabbed her backpack and quickly jogged downstairs.
"Ddeulgi have breakfast first before you go"
Seulgi was about to head to the front door when she heard her mother's voice.
She turned around and saw her mother sitting at the dining table, waiting.
She saw her mother's expectant face and bit her lips in contemplation. She hates being late, but she hates seeing her mother sad more.
"Okay" With a nod, Seulgi quickly sat on the table and immediately stuffed food into .
"Slow down or you'll choke" Mrs. Kang said worriedly.
"Issh sho delishous" Seulgi just gave her a wide grin, mouth full of food.
Mrs. Kang just smiled.
Even if she had a hard time raising Seulgi by herself, especially since she was just 18 at that time, she knows it was all worth it. Seeing how loving and caring her daughter is.
"Thank you for the food umma. I'll go now" Seulgi quickly stood up and jogged around the table to kiss her mother's cheek.
"Okay. See you later and remember don't tire yourself at work."
Mrs. Kang frowned when she remembered how Seulgi almost collapsed from exhaustion a month ago from having two jobs a day.
Mrs. Kang felt guilty because Seulgi was doing it for her.
A year ago she was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer.
It was a really hard time for her since Seulgi had just entered college.
And her pay as a preschool teacher was just enough to cover their expenses and Seulgi's tuition fee.
That's why when the doctor suggested she undergo surgery and chemotherapy, she refused. She didn't have enough money to pay for those.
But when Seulgi accidentally found out about her cancer. The girl cried and forced her to quit her job and do what the doctor suggested.
Mrs. Kang protested at first because she knows how much money was needed, but Seulgi remained firm and promised that she'll find a job soon.
That's when Seulgi decided to drop out of college so that she could work and earn money for them.
Up until now Mrs. Kang still felt bad about it.
"Umma don't worry. I'm strong remember?" Seulgi pursed her lips and scrunched up her nose while flexing her nonexistent muscles proudly.
Mrs. Kang chuckled. "Fine. Go now or you'll be late"
"Yes ma'am!" Seulgi fake saluted before jogging to the front door and clumsily putting on her shoes.
She bowed to her mother one last time before running out of the house.
Mrs. Kang just smiled while clearing the table.

"Minhyuk oppa, thanks for giving me a ride."
Joohyun smiled at the man on the steering wheel before unbuckling her seatbeat.
"No problem. Erm.." The blonde haired man rubbed his neck shyly. "Joohyun-ah"
Joohyun, who was about to step out of the car, stopped and looked at the man. "Yes, oppa?"
"I- uhh... nothing. I forgot what I'm going to say" The man chuckled awkwardly.
"Okay. Bye." Joohyun smiled and head out of the car. She waved as the car drove off.
"Was that Minhyuk oppa?"
Joohyun turned around and saw her bestfriend, Jennie, walking towards her.
"Yeah. Jihoon oppa asked him to drive me here because he had to go to Uni early to meet his professor" Joohyun forced out a smile and started walking towards the gate with her bestfriend.
"Okay, but what's wrong? Something bothering you?"
"Nothing. Just tired I guess with all the projects and stuffs"
"You've been acting like this for a week now. Tell me what's really bothering you" Jennie insisted.
Joohyun just remained silent.
"It's about Minhyuk oppa, right?"
Joohyun stopped on her tracks and turned to her bestfriend, who was giving her a knowing look.
Joohyun bit her lips and nodded. "I found out a week ago that he has feelings for me."
Jennie squealed, earning a few looks from the other students, but she ignored them.
"What did you say? Did you tell him how you feel too? Wait, what do you feel about him by the way? Do you feel the same?" Jennie asked excitedly.
"Shh! Keep quite! People are staring weirdly at us" Joohyun hissed at her bestfriend and dragged her to a more secluded area.
"Okay so what happened? Tell me now." Jennie looked at her expectantly.
Joohyun pursed her lips and sighed.
"He didn't confess to me. My brother just accidentally blurted it out while he was drunk one night. And to be honest I kind of only see Minhyuk oppa as another older brother so.." Joohyun trailed off.
"Ah" Jennie nodded in understanding. "But if he ask you out or confess to you. What will you do?"
Joohyun frowned in contemplation. She knows it would hurt the man if she tell him the truth, but she thought that it's better than giving him false hope.
"I don't know. Maybe I'll just tell him the truth. That I only see him as an older brother"
"I guess that's better. Anyway, lets just forget about that for now and just head to class. Miss Kim might punish us if we're late"
Joohyun nodded and smiled a bit. "Let's go"

"Unnie, bring this to table 3 please? I still have to give this to the other table." A short haired girl said while pointing at the other tray on the counter.
"Okay" Seulgi, who had just came back from her 15 minute break, quickly nooded.
She washed her hands first before wiping it dry and grabbing the tray full of food. She walked out of the kitchen and into the dinning area.
She looked around in confusion. It's already 2pm, but there's still a lot customers. Normally the place would be empty by now.
She noticed that some of them were students from a highschool nearby, based on their uniforms.
She wondered if they were there because they didn't have classes or they were cutting classes. She'll never know.
With a shrug, Seulgi continued walking towards table 3.
She saw from the corner of her eyes that a few students were looking at her direction. So she turned to them and smiled, earning a few squeals.
She chuckled. Seems like her charm caught the teenagers too.
"Bibimbap and Pork stew for the beautiful ladies" Seulgi swiftly placed the dishes on the table before flashing her charming smile.
"Thank you" The brown haired woman smiled back while blushing. The other woman on the table just stared in dazed at her.
The smile on her lips grew wider.
Seulgi knows the effect of her smile to other people, especially women that's why she's taking advantage of it in anyway she can.
"Enjoy your meal ladies. Just call me if you need anything, alright?" Seulgi winked at them earning a small squeal from both woman.
She smirked and walked back to the kitchen.
She saw her boss leaning on the kitchen counter while shaking his in disapproval. Seems like he saw what happened.
Seulgi just flashed a toothy grin.
"You're always flirting. I wouldn't be surprised if one day you'll get in trouble because of that" Mr. Bae said with a chuckle.
"Uncle, what can I do? The ladies love this handsome face." Seulgi smirked, coolly pulling the edges of the collar of her uniform.
Mr. Bae shook his head in amusement, "This is why Joohyun hates you. You're too arrogant"
"Uncle, I'm not arrogant. I'm just being honest." Seulgi shrugged cockily.
"And Joohyun unnie must have feelings for me. I mean she always tries to get my attention. I'm sorry uncle, but I don't think I'll be able to return your daughter's feelings" Seulgi apologized while bowing playfully.
Mr. Bae laughed. "You're lucky she's not here to hear that or you might get kicked on the shin again."
Seulgi grimaced when she remembered the last time she teased the older girl. She could still mentally feel the pain of being kicked.
"Uncle, are you really sure she is your daughter? I mean, why is she violent? She's the total opposite of Jihoon oppa"
"Joohyun is like that towards you only because you always annoy her. If I didn't know better, I would think that it's you who have feelings for her." Mr. Bae teased.
Truthfully, he already knew about Seulgi's feelings for his daughter. He saw Seulgi looking at his daughter lovingly when the girl thought no one was looking.
And even if he had just known Seulgi for almost 6 months only. He knows that Seulgi is a good kid. Especially knowing her situation.
He remembered the
