Chapter 12
What Love TaughtDara can’t believe months have passed by without her noticing it. She promised to look into her dad’s case as soon as she got back to Korea but she got distracted. A very handsome and lovable distraction, she thought to herself.
She scheduled an appointment with her dad’s lawyer to talk to him about the case. He said he can’t talk about anything due to the attorney-client privilege. She said she just wanted to know about the case and he didn’t have to divulge anything confidential. She met him during lunch at a cafe near the courthouse.
Dara: Thank you for meeting with me. I just wanted to know how I can help my dad get out of his debt.
Atty. Kwon: Oh, that’s actually already being taken cared of.
Dara: I know my dad is trying to pay it off slowly but if there’s any way I could speed that up by contributing towards the payments.
Atty. Kwon: Hmm, let me talk to my client and I’ll see what he says.
Dara: So you have a means to communicate with him?
Atty. Kwon: Yeah, that’s something I can’t tell you.
Dara: (sighed) I understand, I was hoping to at least get to talk to him even if he does not want to meet. Can you tell him that, too?
Atty. Kwon: Okay, I’ll let him know. I have to go now.
Dara: Thank you. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
Dara was on her way out the door when she came across Yoon Ji-hu.
Yoon Ji-hu: Dara? Nice to see you!
Dara: Hey, hi, small world.
Yoon Ji-hu: Yeah, I work across the street. Did you meet someone for lunch?
Dara: Sort of, but we didn’t have lunch, it was just a short meeting
Yoon Ji-hu: Oh, would you like to have lunch with me? I’m buying...
Dara: (hesitating) Okay...
They sat at the same table where Dara and Atty. Kwon were earlier and ordered their food. While waiting, Ji-hu asked Dara if her meeting had anything to do with a case. He said the cafe was a usual meeting place for lawyers and their clients.
Dara: Yeah, it’s about my dad..
Yoon Ji-hu: Would you mind telling me about it? Maybe I can help. I work as prosecutor.
Dara: That’s great. I actually have a lot of questions. I want to know how to find out about my dad’s case. I want to know how I can help.
Yoon Ji-hu: The details of the case are made public after a certain time has passed, it can even be searched online
Dara: Really?
Yoon Ji-hu: Yes, I can help you if you want especially for legal terms that need to be explained further.
Dara: Thank you, as long as it won’t be too much of a bother and you won’t get in trouble.
Yoon Ji-hu: Give me your dad’s name and date of birth and I’ll send you what I find out.
Dara: (writing down the information) Thank you so much, Ji-hu.
Yoon Ji-hu: You’re welcome.
Dara: I’m sorry I have to go now. I still have a long way to drive.
Yoon Ji-hu: Yes, of course. It was nice seeing you again.
Dara: Thank you for lunch. Bye for now.
Ji-hu looked on as Dara made her way to the door. He can’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy that Dara and Donghae were in a relationship. Maybe they really were meant for each other. Jessica, his fiancee, told him that Donghae was head over heels in love with Dara since high school. Who would have known that their lives would be intertwined like that. It really is a small world.
Atty. Kwon called his client and told him about his meeting with Dara. Mr. Park knew about Dara being back in Korea. He was almost close to paying off his debts, thanks to someone who has been helping him steadily for the past two years. He remembered the time that person went to see him at the island for the first time. He couldn’t believe he found where he was. He lived in one of the remote isla
