The day had arrived, the case sat in front of her atop of staples sheets with ink reading of enrollment to a new school, but she hadn't noticed that, not when something she hadn't seen since she was a child was in front of her.

"My old card case" Somi breathed out as her mother sat next to her father on the opposite side of the table. Somi slipped out of her jacket, hanging the piece of her uniform on the back of the chair her father gently asked her to sit in.

"You remember" Mrs Han breathed out wistfully, like she was relieved Somi hadn't forgotten.

"Of course, that little brat Mina stole my kitten" Somi seethed with a sudden viciousness that Mr Han chided before he told her why she was being given the case once again.

"Your mother and I spent a lot of this week talking, we were going to tell you in the holidays so that you could start a new school year at a new school, but we were indecisive on how to tell you about what your family is"

"I'm moving schools?"

"So that you can learn how to live as a card wielder, yes. You'll be enrolling to Moonstar Academy as soon as you're willing" Mr Han nodded and Somi swallowed.

"Sweetheart you have to, for your sake and the sake of your future deck," Mrs Han told Somi gently.

"One of the most important things to do is start your deck of cards, traditionally your parents or a close relative will keep a card that they have found and when they decide the time is right, will present the card to you and present you with a new resident who will serve you for the first time"

"You're giving me a card?"

"Yes," Mrs Han nodded and Mr Han reached into the pocket of his button up shirt. He presented the card to Somi and her hands trembled as she reached for it.

"Oh my god," Somi gasped at the card lying in her hands, its back looking up at her. It was a sight she hadn't seen for the longest time, five, she recalled being the last time she saw a card.

"The resident of this card is Son Hyunwoo, he will lead you, guard you and serve you and the deck you create"

"Wait, you're giving me one of your cards?" Somi in a breath and Mr Son nodded, keeping the nostalgic look that Somi had caught in his eyes.

"But I thought that you-"

"We did" Mr Han nodded, smiling as Somi turned the card over.

"But Son Hyunwoo vowed to stay, waiting for the day that your mother and I had created a new life together, and when they were old enough, he would serve them as a token of gratitude"

"So be good to Hyunwoo, but we don't have to tell you that" Mrs Han took Somi's empty hand and squeezed it tenderly.

"You must protect that card and all future cards you touch Somi," Mrs Han continued and Somi blinked at Hyunwoo's description on the face of the card.

"Your cards will be very special to you-"

"And they will make you" Somi finished, looking up at Ms Han who smiled, nodding her head.

"But also because of the importance of the Han family name," Mr Han informed, "Previous wielders of the Han family have only ever been in the top tear of ranks and have faced many enemies who wanted to take that place"

"So protect your deck, protect it with all of your being, for your sake and theirs" Mrs Han warned and Somi's head signalled agreement.

"I won't let anyone come between the deck and me" She promised and her parents smiled at her words.

"We look forward to your contribution to the family name"

Som looked down at her first card and read the words again.

"Are you ready to go now, Miss Han?" When there was a knock on her bedroom door, Somi didn't think she would be opening it to be faced with someone she had never met before.

"Who are you?" Somi demanded, closing the door again so that only her eye could be seen as she reached for her well used baseball bat, it thunked against her helmet but she ignored the sound, gripping the bat tightly in her hand.

"Forgive me for not introducing myself sooner, Miss Han, I am Son Hyunwoo, here to serve you as your butler" Hyunwoo stepped back from the door and bowed with his hands respectfully placed in front of his torso.

"Hyunwoo?" Somi pulled the door open slowly, still uncertain as she gripped onto her bat defensively.

"But I didn't summon you?" Somi narrowed her eyes and Hyunwoo's head tilted.

"Mingyeol did so for you, Miss Han, and I will be serving you from now on as your leading card in the deck that you choose to grow" Hyunwoo looked up and Somi her lips, hesitating before putting her bat away and opening her door wider.

"Right, you were with my father before me," Somi nodded with a smile, and Hyunwoo respectfully bowed his head again.

"Yes, Miss Han, I served your father for most of his life, for a matter of fact"

"Could you please call me Somi? I'm kind of uncomfortable with being called Miss Han" Somi's face scrunched up and Hyunwoo's head bowed.

"Yes, Miss Somi, I will remember to do so" Hyunwoo visibly fought back hiding the embarrassment of his mistake when he looked at and Somi's eyes crinkled.

"Close enough for a first try," She told him.

"Hyunwoo, why are you so stiff with her, old friend?" Mr Han walked the hallway to Somi's room then and the two looked to him.

"Just how old are you?" Somi muttered under her breath and swallowed as she looked at Hyunwoo. He was tall and built with the strength needed for the jobs her father had already told her of, but Hyunwoo's face looked no older than her own youthful features.

"I'm just following protocol, Mingyeol" Hyunwoo answered and Somi swallowed, looking to her dad.

"She's my child, she won't be any less lax and loving than I was" Mingyeol slapped a hand on Hyunwoo's back, but as if the action didn't even happen, Hywunoo didn't move or react and bowed his head at his 'old friend'.

"So, are you ready to go?" Mingyeol asked his daughter and Somi nodded, brushing over her stomach and holding out her arms so that her father could look at her in her new uniform.

"Very nice," Mr Han commented, "shall we go?" He smiled and Somi nodded.

"Hyunwoo?" Mr Han asked and Hyunwoo nodded his head.

"I will see the both of you at the school entrance," Hyunwoo told them, bowing and disappearing into the card that was pointed towards him.

"What the hell?"

"It's weird seeing a person go into a card isn't it?" Mr Han mused and Somi nodded as the card was put in her case by her father and handed back to her.

"Here you go, now let's roll"

"You need to stop saying that dad," Somi told her father as she went back into her room for her last bag.

"Autobots, roll out" Mr Han boasted and Somi groaned.

"Dad please"

"Dad this is embarrassing, can't we do this in the car?" Somi begged.

"You have to know how to summon your cards, everyone else here does" Mr Han retorted as they stood outside of their family car, card between them as they huddled together.

"Mum?" Somi looked up at her mother as she giggled.

"I used to summon my deck with a kiss" She nudged Somi and Mr Han rolled his eyes.

"Typical girl" He grumbled.

"So, to bring Hyunwoo out, all you do is your chosen way to summon your card and they will be here" Mr Han gave a strong flick to the card and Somi hissed, feeling it on her forehead just by hearing the sound.

"Hyunwoo, Somi and yourself need to agree on a way for her to call for you" Mr Han looked as excited by the sight of Hyunwoo as he did with the sight of his friends from high school.

"By phone, Mingyeol?" Hyunwoo mused and Somi choked at the gest in his tone that escaped his unchanging face.

"Nice one" Mr Han mused like a kid with his friend, even as Hyunwoo stayed stoic, turning to Somi seriously.

"The calling that you choose will be permanent, you cannot change it with me after today, when you find other cards, you may choose a way of calling for that individual that is different to mine if you so wish too" Somi nodded at Hyunwoo's explanation and her mother nudged her, giggling like a teenage girl in front of her crush, fist in front of that she talked through when Somi looked at her.

"Come on," She chided, noticing Somi's hesitance, she nudged her again and Somi knocked her knuckles against the card, looking at Hyunwoo.

"Very well then," He gave a single nod that he lowered into a bow, "when you knock on the card, I will come to you, Miss Somi" Hyunwoo assured.

"Hyunwoo will take you to the front office, once you're done, he'll bring you to your dorm" Mr Han explained as he put a hand on Hyunwoo's back again.

"What about you guys?" Somi asked as Mrs Han squeezed on her shoulder.

"We'll take your stuff to your dorm room for you," She told her daughter.

"I can perform the task, Mrs Han" Hyunwoo joined in the conversation and Mr Han pushed Hyunwoo along, pulling Somi to follow him.
