manga cliches

In the bakery.

When I was young, I loved to read romance manga. There was so much fun in imagining what it feels like to be the main character. From getting stuck in a locker with a handsome highschooler to getting wall slammed another. Those imaginary scenarios made my heart flutter every time.

What I didn’t expect was to experience both at the same time. Not with a guy, but a girl. But not just any girl.

“Hiichan, I think we’re stuck.”

We were on cleaning duty and we’re supposed to just get a broom from the closet so we could clean the classroom and finally go home. Supposed to. My senior, Chaewon unnie, tripped over nothing, and ended up pushing me and herself into the locker while simultaneously locking it.

And now we ended up in this shoujo like scenario except it didn't just make my heart flutter. My heart was beating out of my chest. My face was probably flushed but the darkness helped conceal it.

I could feel her breath near the side of my face. “Are you okay?” I couldn’t see her but I can hear a trace of concern as she said those words. I hummed in reply.

“What do we do?” Without warning, she banged her fist on the wall. “Hey! Someone’s stuck here!” she yelled. The shaking of the locker made me realize how, intimate our positions were.

My hands were on her shoulders to prevent myself from falling. Our bodies were dangerously close, I could smell her mint perfume. Both her arms were on the side of my face, double wall slamming me in the process. Our legs were tangled together, her knee between my legs.

Chaewon sighed. “I don’t think anyone can hear us.” It was late and the only people left were those who had club activities. If we had our phones we could’ve called Ahn Yujin to get us out, despite how embarrassing it would be to get caught in this position. I’d rather die of embarrassment than die of hunger.

“We probably should just wait for someone to find us.” I said, defeated.

“Argh! I can’t believe I’m stuck here with you!” My heart felt a bit hurt when she said that.

“So you don’t want me here…” I mumbled. I’m right though. She’d prefer to be stuck with Minjoo. After all, they look perfect together. Especially with how they seem so happy when they are with each other (During lunch that she used to spend with me). They’re both beautiful compared to me. I thought she wouldn’t hear me but she replied.

“Wait, no I didn’t mean it like that!” she suddenly said.

Letting go of the wall, she held my right hand grasping her shoulder. Her panic ridden face was now solemn. She looked at me so I couldn't help but look back, her brown orbs glistening in the dark.

“I like it.” Her hold tightened, yet still gentle. “Being with you I mean.” As she said that, a wide smile spread on her face. I smiled back, my worries vanishing. When I thought she was done, she leaned closer. Her lips look so soft, I couldn’t help but do the same. I closed my eyes and I can feel her wrap around my waist. But before it happened, the closet slammed open.

“Chaewon unnie!”

That made us hit our foreheads in shock. Chaewon hissed in pain, while I turned to take a look at the culprit.

“Yujinnie, how’d you find us?”

The girl in question answered me. “I was skipping practice nearby when I heard banging,” she glanced at Chaewon, still massaging her forehead. “I guess it was an angry radish.”

“I swear Yujin you’re dead to me.” She was glaring at her, which did make her look like an angry radish with her mint green sweater. It was cute.

“Anyways-” she ran behind us and put her arms around our shoulder, “What happened inside there? Hmm?” Yujin looked at us knowingly making us blush.

“Let’s just go home. Come on Hitoma!” Chaewon grabbed both our bags and brisk walked out the classroom. I followed her, not before hearing Yujin yell, “My ship is sailing!”

When I finally caught up to Chaewon she looked disappointed. Her lips were pouting and it was cute. I giggled which made her look at me.

“What is it?”

“Nothing.”

We continued walking till we reached the school gates. She handed my bag and we just stood there. What happened earlier was still on our minds. Not knowing how to break the silence, I gathered my courage and moved closer. I was looking down so I didn't know how she reacted. I stood on my toes and pecked her on the cheek.

Without looking at her, I ran away.

That night my sister couldn’t sleep from all my squealing.

Chapter 7: I did get the yuru camp vibe with the story being funny and sentimental at the same time. And so far, this is my favorite not just because of that but also because I think it fits ssambbang very well, as a fluffy yet relaxing couple to watch.

P. S. You’ve written it so well that I think I need a second part :>
