Uncertainty

Sunsets and Coffees

It's Monday again, which means it's back to work. The ever so punctual Jeongyeon arrived an hour early than the supposed time like always.

In her cubicle she found her little friend sitting on her desk, looking pissed.

"Goodmorning Chaeng." The taller one greeted, quite nervously. Somehow she knew why the mushroom head is looking like that.

"GoOd MoRnInG cHaEnG!!" Chaeyoung drawled mockingly with an exagerated face ."You left me sleeping in the diner!"

"Yeah, about that.." Jeongyeon starts to think fast. She needs to tell her something without mentioning that terrible experience and that nightmare of a girl to avoid anymore questions because she doesn't want to talk about it and it's too early for her day to get ruined. "Sorry. Something unexpected came up."

Chaeyoung's bugged face still remained. She needed more explanation. Luckily for Jeongyeon, a certain Taiwanese popped up from behind, surprising her with a hug.

"Unnie! Good to see you! Have you seen my baby? She's not in her wo- Chaeng! You're here!"

The mushroom head's pissed face instantly turned into an awe. Jeongyeon sighed in relief thinking she was now safe from Chaeyoung's indignation.

The little one didn't waste anymore time and tackled her girlfriend with a hug, while the tall one gladly reciprocates."Finally! You're here! I missed you so much babe!"

"Me too." The taiwanese replied before crashing both of their lips together. Their wet and sloppy signature kiss is wetter and sloppier than normal, clearly showing how much they missed each other, And they've only been apart for two days! It's both repulsive and fascinating at the same time for Jeongyeon.

"Let's go somewhere. I really missed you!" Chaeyoung pleaded, pulling her girlfriend's long arms out of Jeongyeon's cubicle.

"Yes please. My workplace is not a very comfortable place to do lovers stuff." Jeongyeon said sarcastically which made Tzuyu laugh. The truth is, the taiwanese is just as thirsty as the smaller one. the only difference is she's got more self-control and there's no way she's gonna do it then and there.

"Easy there my little tiger. My parents are back to Taiwan, so we'll have plenty of time later." She winked at Chaeyoung. "For now, I'd like to know how's your weekend."

"Oh babe.. you're the only one on my mind the whole weekend because Jeongyeon is a terrible company. She left me sleeping in the diner! And Dahyun almost made me pay for the fries. Her fries!" The tall brunette looked at Jeongyeon in disappointment while all Jeongyeon can do was feel guilty because all Chaeyoung said was true.

"She also went on a date." Chaeyoung added.

Tzuyu's displeased expression immediately disappeared. " Really? That's great! Have you told boss about it?"

"Jihyo? I don't think she needs to know. Plus, she's really busy right now. so, maybe some other time?"

"But I bet she'd be really happy to know about this."

"Don't worry, Tzu. I'll tell her eventually." Jeongyeon reassured, though she doesn't really want it.

Waiting for Saturday was painful. Jeongyeon enjoys being with her friends, but seeing the ChaeTzu couple constantly do their thing infront of her, makes her want to see Sana even more. But Saturday is finally here. Hopefully her patience pays off.

Before going to their meeting place, she first went to buy a box of pizza as her contribution. Even though she had no idea that their date will be a picnic date, She really felt bad last time for not bringing anything.

Jeongyeon is bursting with anticipation when she arrived to the pier because her whole week was nothing but missing Sana and envying Chaeyoung and Tzuyu. And there's also a question she's been meaning to ask her, hoping she'd get the answer she wants.

When her clock finally strucks '4' she couldn't help but feel uneasy. She couldn't help but fiddle her sleeves, splash the water with her feet, and tap the box of pizza repeatedly. Sure, they've been texting, but Jeongyeon is longing for something more. She wants the actual Sana infront of her, where she can see her pretty face, hear her actual cute voice, and feel her touch.

Busy with over-thinking again, she didn't realize the girl she's been waiting was already behind her, looking at her amusingly. Sana crept closer to Jeongyeon and surprised her with a light peck on the cheek, anouncing her arrival. It made the blonde jerk in surprise and made her face grew embarassingly red at the sight of the girl she's been yearning to see since they part ways.

She was a lot like a goddess than the last time and Jeongyeon wasn't sure if it's her short-sleeve sky blue off-shoulder top and jeans, or her growing feelings towards the Japanese. But whatever it is, all that matters is that right now, she's the lucky one that gets to be with her.

"Punctual as always, huh?"

"Well, I'd rather be the one to wait than you."

"Jeongyeonie, considerate as always." She pinched the older girl's cheek, and now she knows why Chaeyoung likes it so much when Tzuyu does it to her. "I see you brought pizza. Let's eat then, shall we?"

They helped each other make the same setup as last week and inside Sana's large basket there are: a bundle of grapes, a carton of pineapple juice, peacan pie and a whole roast chicken.

"These looks a little too much for just us two." Jeongyeon stated in concern.

"Will you stop thinking about unecessary things and just enjoy this moment with me? Look, the sun is setting." The raven-haired girl points at the horizon and rested her head on the blonde's shoulder. "I brought that much because I wanted to, okay? So stop worrying and just enjoy the view with me."

Like the waves on the shore, Sana's words washed most of her worries away. She just realized how stupid she was for ruining the moment when Sana is doing her best maintaining it for them.

"Okay, I'll stop talking."

"Don't! Tell me how's your week. Did anything interesting or unusual happened?"

Interesting? All she did was work and hope for Saturday to come faster. But, unusual? Mina is the first thing that came to her mind. She's starting to get over her annoyance towards the girl so maybe it's okay now to talk about it.

"After our date last week, I found a crying girl out in the street and I approached her. I insisted her to let me help her which she eventually accepted, and so we ended up in her place."

"Ooh.. so, she outdone me?" Sana joked.

"No no. Nothing romantic happened. I just asked her to open up what's bothering her, hoping it would help, Then... Well... To make the story short, we didn't get along and it ended up with me shouting at her face before storming off."

Sana's head rose from it's comfortable position on the older's shoulder, looking completely lost. Her eyebrows cocked and "okay??" Was all she could respond. She couldn't imagine how that ended up as Jeongyeon told, but what's harder to believe is how the soft girl beside her raise her voice out of anger. "That must've been a strange experience."

"Yep. Weird happenings for weird people." She took her glass of pineapple juice and finished it in one gulp. Her eyes couldn't stop blinking. "Anyway, she's out of my life and I don't think I'll see her again, hopefully. How 'bout you? How's your week?"

The Japanese placed her head back on the blonde's shoulder before answering. "I always spend weekdays in school. You know, Because I'm a teacher?"

"Do you hate your job?"

"Not at all. I love teaching kids. And being a witness to their growth is the most fulfilling thing ever. Of course, there are the naughty ones, but you get used to them."

Sana continued to talk about her class and Jeongyeon wished she could give her her full attention. But there's a question she's really been wanting to ask, and she doesn't know how to ask it yet in a way that doesn't pressure. But she needs to ask it today, or it's all she's going to think for another week.

But the sun is gone and their time together has come to an end, and she haven't ask her yet, nor get to enjoy the time with her to the fullest. Her 3-hour-long moment with Sana is wasted over nothing. Now all she could do is curse at herself while she watch and help Sana pack all the left-overs and used utensils in her large basket.

"Jeongyeon you ing idiot. Useless gay as always." She mumbled to herself, not knowing that the raven-haired girl can actually hear her.

"Jeongyeon. I noticed you've been preoccupied since the beginning. Is there anything you want to tell me before we part ways?" Now that Sana is the one asking her about it, she no longer see the point in prolonging it any further.

So, with all her might, she compose herself. She let go of all the thoughts that holds her back like feeling kinda pathetic for feeling this much already for the girl she only met last week. And the doubt that maybe she only feel this out of worry that she's getting old yet never had a girlfriend. But is it really that? If so, then why Sana? There are lots of pretty girls aside from her, right?

Jeongyeon tried imagining herself with someone else, but felt nothing. She really wants Sana, and only Sana, and that's the only thing she needs to know to proceed.

"I'd like to know what's this. What we're doing. And what we are."

Sana is thinking of a sarcastic remark, but realized it would be insensitive of her to do so since the blonde clearly mulled over this.

"Nothing. We just go on dates." Sana winced at her own response.

"Is there any way we can become more than that? Any way we could improve it into something definite? Something I can cling onto without having to worry about it falling apart?" Her voice sounded hesitant but honest still and all.

"Oh Jeongyeon.." Sana appreciates how she showed her vulnerability and She believes her intentions are nothing but pure sincerity. But she really can't give Jeongyeon the answer she wants.

"Thank you. You have no idea how special you just made me feel right now.. But i'm sorry. I'm not as certain as you are to jump into something as serious as a commitment. Not yet, atleast."

Among her previous dates, Jeongyeon is the only one who never tried taking her to bed, and the only one who asked her to commit. She should've said 'yes' right away because ever since, this always been what she wanted.. But before Jeongyeon came, no one really took her seriously and experienced nothing but deception. It made her doubt everything, and now Jeongyeon's the one who has to deal with the consequences.

If only it isn't selfish to beg Jeongyeon to wait for her until she's ready too, she would. But she did nothing but showed her generosity and care. She don't deserve to be tied down and make her wait for something she herself isn't even sure if she'll ever give. Somebody out there can give her the certainty she deserves and that's where Jeongyeon is suppose to be.

"But, you know what? being the kindest, most caring, and the most charming too, that i've ever come across, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find someone new. Heck, they might even be the one looking for you!" It was with a heavy heart to put on a smile while pushing away the person who made you the happiest so far, But for Sana, it's what she must. "I think, you should see someone else. Someone who isn't afraid to take risk or someone who's decisive. It's what you deserve, after all. It was nice meeting you, Jeongyeon. I'll be going now."

After one last look at the blonde, she turned around. She wanted to run but somehow, her limbs felt heavy. She wanted to cry but it would be wrong to do so, because she's the one cutting ties, she's the one detaching herself, leaving the girl hanging with her probably now broken heart. But she's not gonna ask her to give her time instead. She's not gonna force her to be held captive. No matter how badly she wants it, she's not gonna beg for Jeongyeon to wait.

But what if it's voluntarily being offered?

Before taking another step, she felt a body leaned on her back, emitting a familiar warmth she always loved. A pair of arms slid its way around her waist, strong but not suffocating. And a cute little head rested on the crook of her neck.

"Sana, before anything else, what do you feel for me exactly? You don't hate me, do you?"

Her gentle voice along with her warm breaths hitting the back of her ear while she said those words, is the last thing it took to finally break Sana. Her tears welling in her eyes she tried so hard to hold back, finally poured freely.

Caressing Jeongyeon's soft blonde hair, she spoke. "My god! Hate you? I couldn't even find a single reason to do that. I know it's only been a week since we've met and I know I'm already walking away, but not a day this week that you left my mind. Every little thing already reminds me of you, and when it does, it never fails to make me smile. Jeong, I don't think I'll ever hate you."

The japanese's words gave Jeongyeon enough confidence to take charge. She broke the hug and held Sana's shoulder to face her. "That's all I want to hear." She whispered. She used her thumb to wipe some of the tears on her cheek before kissing her forehead and holding the raven-haired close to her. "If that's how you feel about me then I'll wait until you're ready. Just please don't leave. I'm sorry for pressuring you."

And that's what Sana wants to hear. Jeongyeon's hold and her vanilla scent is the most comforting thing, but Sana couldn't contain herself. She couldn't help but shake uncontrollably from the overwhelming feeling. She will never beg for Jeongyeon, because there's no way she'll selfishly make Jeongyeon wait for something unguaranteed. But she just willingly offered herself and now She couldn't believe she's not gonna lose Jeongyeon.

"I'm so dramatic. Sorry." Sana laugh in between sobs.

"Sshhh! Don't ruin it."

---

It was getting late. The blonde offered her to take her to dinner, but again, she declined. However, she allowed Jeongyeon to walk her to the subway and see her off.

Today has been emotionally exhausting for her. She may not get the response she exactly wants, but knowing she's wanted atleast, already satisfied her. Now, she couldn't wait to go home and plop down to her bed. Good thing Dahyun didn't ask her to go to the diner tonight.

Inside the bus while bopping to her music and watching the trees they passed by, she received an invite from an unknown sender. She already like the plan of sleeping early, but the text already piqued her curiosity. And that's one of Jeongyeon's peeve. That's one thing she hates more than a sudden change of plans. Now, she's not gonna be able to rest until she satisfy her curiousity.

"What is it this time? Where did she got my number? And, how can she casually invite me after being such a jerk last time?" Questions that rose from reading a single message.

'Hey it's me, Mina. Can you come here again? At my place? Tonight? Please?'
