“Should we tell them about this whole fake dating thing?”
As they began walking, Jisoo took some time to consider things. Despite his best friend being Jeonghan, they had a close friend group that consisted of Choi Seungcheol and Wen Junhui as well. They had all agreed to meet at one of the 24-hour diners in the city, still getting used to being proper adults out of college to pick something better, especially since only one out of the four had already found a job.
He shrugged, “if my mom wants to see them I think we have to, don’t you think? We can’t just be sweet in front of them out of nowhere. Cheol will scream and they’ll blow our cover for sure.”
“You’re right,” Jeonghan agreed, purposely scuffing his shoes on the sidewalk with an amused chuckle at the idea of surprising their friends. “Do you think they’ll be okay with it?”
“If anything,” Jisoo began to say, scoffing as he did. “I bet they’ll say this is a pretty tame idea. Remember when Junhui lost that bet?”
At that, the blonde gave a wicked grin—the punishment for that bet back in their second year of university had been his idea, after all, so there was no way he was going to forget—as they turned a street corner. They were a chill group of friends, he figured. All of them were good people with the right amount of chaos, but he was particularly glad that everybody in the group was open-minded enough that nobody questioned how good Junhui would look in a dress.
“Jun made a lovely lady,” he said with a cheery laugh. “Would you have preferred him as your fake girlfriend? I’m hurt, Shua.”
The brunette promptly ignored him.
Once they reached the establishment, it wasn’t hard to miss the two seated right in the center, playing rock paper scissors despite all the other customers around them. Seungcheol lost their latest round, as the Chinese boy seated in front of him grabbed the menu and whacked him on the head with it. They were about to start playing again, when Jeonghan had appeared behind them, plucking the menu from Junhui’s hands.
“Really? We’re supposed to be adults,” he chided teasingly, taking the empty seat next to Seungcheol. “Especially you, working man. What are you doing losing to this child?”
“We got bored waiting,” the black-haired boy explained with a pout.
Jisoo slipped into the remaining empty seat, “clearly.”
Next to him, Junhui slung an arm across his shoulder in greeting, keeping it there as the four of them discussed what they were going to order. They went through the menu a couple of times, with the younger boy playfully pulling on Jisoo each time the latter would disagree with the food choices, until they had an order everybody agreed with. The redhead finally let go at that, as they began to catch up with each other.
“Work is so stressful,” Seungcheol said with a groan. “I kinda miss studying.”
“That’s what I’ve heard from the others in our batch, too,” Jeonghan said with a sigh, already thinking about how things would be like for him once he got a job as well. After just a while, he perked up visibly, nudging Jisoo’s leg under the table with a wide grin on his face. It took the brunette only a few seconds to realize what his friend was referring to. The blonde grinned wider when their eyes met, “work aside, Jisoo and I have some good news to share tonight.”
The other boy smiled, “surprise! We’re dating.”
“The two of you dating?” Seungcheol said, nearly choking on his drink since he was taking a sip as Jisoo explained more about the whole fake dating situation before the other boy could overreact. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand before looking back and forth between his two friends. He burst out laughing a few moments later, “doesn’t that feel like just dating yourself? You two are literally the most similar pair of friends I’ve ever met.”
“I did tell Jisoo he’s a bit of a narcissist, but he insisted,” Jeonghan added cheekily.
“You’re not exactly humble, Yoon Jeonghan.”
“Hey,” the blonde said defensively when Seungcheol had pointed at him. “I wasn’t the one who tho
