The beam of the sun made Jiyong’s eyes narrow as he stared at the girl who was squatting and rummaging through the snowy ground with a twig next to the school building. Looked like the girl was looking for something. Every now and then she blew her hands that were not gloved. And it looked like she was crying too.

Jiyong looked back. His friends hadn’t come out yet. Earlier they said they wouldn’t be long, only giving their favorite teacher a birthday present. Jiyong didn’t really agree with the idea. It’s true, the teacher was their favorite teacher during elementary days, but now they had become middle school students. According to Jiyong, they shouldn’t be sentimental and childish like that. But his friends didn’t want to hear the reason. He was forced to come here, but he refused to enter and meet with their teacher. According to him, men must be assertive. He let his friends enter and he would wait outside until they are back. Even though it’s cold outside here.

Jiyong looked back at the girl. His friends hadn’t returned. Instead of just daydreaming, maybe he could help the girl. Jiyong fixed his blue wool hat and approached the girl. “What are you doing?”

The girl looked up. Her eyes narrowed at Jiyong. Up close, Jiyong realized that the girl’s long hair which tied up in a ponytail looked slightly slanted and there’s a slight dirt stain on her cheeks that were reddish. Jiyong also just found out that the child wasn’t crying as he had expected, but the child was almost crying. Her eyes were glazed.

“What are you doing?” Jiyong asked again because the girl didn’t answer.

After hesitating for a moment, the girl muttered softly, “Looking for something.”

“What are you looking for?”

“Necklace.” Then the girl looked down again and rummaged through the ground.

Necklace? Without asking further, Jiyong also searched. He just started to kneel when the corner of his eye caught something sparkling. He picked the object up and studied it. The necklace was a simple, but beautiful necklace, with a pendant shaped as “Dara”. Is that the girl’s name?

“Your name is Dara?”

The girl turned towards him. “Yes.” Her tone sounded doubtful.

Jiyong smiled with satisfaction and showed the necklace he was holding. “Found it!”
