드디어 토요일이었다. 요즘 주말은 제일 좋아하는 시간이었다. 그 스토커가 없으니까. 그 녀석을 무시하면 된다는 것을 나도 잘 알았지만 그렇게 쉽지는 않았다. 자꾸 생각나고 신경을 많이 썼다. 같은 공간에 있을 때 그 눈밖에 보이지 않았다. 그 아름다운 눈, 그 진지한 표정. ..꿈에도 나타났다. 뭐, 꿈이 아니라 악몽이었지.

근데 오늘이 토요일이었다. 걱정 없이 그냥 하고 싶은 대로 하루를 보낼 수 있는 날이었다. 귀한 자유를 얻었다. 수호랑 백화점에 가기로 했다. 맛있는 것도 먹고 옷 구경도 하고 영화도 볼 것이다. 재미있는 날이 될 것이라고 믿었다.

내 생각이 얼마나 틀렸는지 잠시 후 깨달았다.

“토요일이다! 놀러 가자!” 수호가 웃었다. 날 차에 태우러 왔다. 엄청 멋있는 차이었다. 수호의 가족은 부자였다. 그래서 수호가 브랜드 옷만 입고 비싼 차만 탔다. 그런데 보통 재벌같이 건방지지가 않았다. 진짜 예이 바르고 착한 사람이었다.

“뭐 먹지?” 백화점에 도착하자마자 수호가 물었다. “너무 배고프다.” 깔깔대면서 말했다.

“맛있는 거!” 나는 웃었다. 기분이 좋았다.

“애들아!” 뒤에 목소리가 불렀다. 수호의 친구 찬열이었다. 그런데 찬열이 혼자가 아니었다. 나는 딱 멈추었다. 심장도 멈춘 기분이었다. 찬열 옆에 경수가 있었다. 내 스토커였다. 날 어떻게 찾았는지 상상도 못했다. 무서웠다.

“어디 가?” 찬열이 수호에게 물어봤다.

“맛있는 거 먹으러” 수호가 바보같이 씩 웃었다.

“어, 마침 잘 됐네!! 우리도 먹으러 가는 중이야.. 같이 가!” 찬열 아주 활발하게 말했다.

수호가 대답할 수 있기 전에 나는 어떻게 말릴 수 있는지 생각을 해 보았다.

“아, 안 돼요!“ 다들 놀란 표정으로 나를 바라보았다. 원래 더 순탄하게 거절할 계획이었는데 좋은 핑계를 생각 못해서 그랬다. “어~~어, 우리 진짜 핫한 식당에 어렵게 예약해 놨으니까요, 자리가 없을 테니까요“ 설명했다. 완전 헛소리였다.

“아, 그래? 아쉽다! 다음에 그럼.“ 찬열이 아쉬운 표정으로 대답했다. 그리고 둘은 드디어 가버렸다.

“야! 어떡해! 그들이 볼까 봐 이제 백화점 식당에 못 가.“ 수호가 불평했다.

“그냥 영화나 보러 가자.“

“배가 고프잖아!“ 수호가 투덜거렸다.

“팝콘 먹자 그럼“ 내가 깔깔댔다.

“내가 쏜다!” 수호가 귀업게 미소를 지었다.

“나야 좋지!” 나도 웃었다.

“헐!” 아는 목소리가 말했다. 나의 미소가 획 사라젔다. “설마 '신과 함께' 보려는 건 아니겠지?”.

속이 쓰렸다. 같은 영화이었다. '다른 영화를 보자'라는 표정을 지었지만 수호가 머리를 살짝 가로 흔들었다. 벌써 영화표를 샀다는 뜻이었다.

“다시 도망치면 너무 수상할 텐데.” 수호가 속삭이듯 말했다.

“알았어...” 눈살을 지푸렸다.

“근데 비싼 밥을 너무 빨리빨리 먹은 건 아니야?” 찬열이 물었다.

아이씨! 들켰다!

“아, 아니, 예약은 잘 못 됐어. 그래서 그냥 다음에 가기로 했어.” 수호가 빠르게 핑계를 댔다.

“아쉽지만 너무 잘 됐어! 영화를 같이 볼 수 있어서.” 찬열의 눈이 빛났다. 경수도 아주 조용한 미소 살짝 지었다.

“가자!” 찬열이 수호의 팔 잡고 1관에 들어갔다. 수호가 나를 혼자 두고 먼저 가는 것을 믿기 힘들었다. 어떻게 그럴 수가 있어?

나와 경수가 아주 어색하게 따라갔다.

찬열이 수호 바로 옆에 앉았다. 나는 찬열 옆에 앉고 싶지가 않았다. 특히 찬열 옆에 앉으면 분명히 경수가 내 옆에 앉을 것이다. 그래서 좀 불편했는데도 찬열도 수호도 겨우 지나가다가 수호 옆에 앉았다. 그때 믿을 수가 없는 일이 벌어졌다. 경수가 찬열 옆에 앉지 않고 찬열도 수호도 나도 지나가서 바로 나의 옆에 앉았다! 맙소사!

영화관이 더 어두워져서 영화가 시작됐다.

굉장히 어색했다.

경수가 내 옆에 있는 것을 느낄 수 있었다. 팔의 머리털이 곤두섰다. 내 손을 잡아 보면 어떡하지? 내 심장이 터질 것 같았다. 숨도 잘 못 쉬었다. 그때 어떤 것이 내 팔을 스쳤다. 깜짝 놀랐다. 경수가 사탕봉지를 건네고 있었다. 거절하려고 했는데 내 제일 좋아하는 사탕이었고 배가 너무 고프니까 두 게 갖고 먹어버렸다. 경수가 만족스러운 표정을 지었다. 조금 귀어웠다. 아니. 아니.. 으스스했다.

영화가 끝난 순간 어떤 영화였는지 하나도 모르는 사실을 깨달았다. 집중 못했다. 경수 때무에...

Translation

At last it was Saturday. Lately, the weekends were my favorite time, since I was free of that stalker. I knew all I had to do was ignore him, but it wasn't that easy. He was frequently on my mind and he bothered me a lot. When I was in the same place as him, I couldn't see anything but those eyes. Those beautiful eyes, that serious look... they even appeared in my dreams. Well, they weren't dreams, they were nightmares, really.

But, today was Saturday. I could just spend the day however I liked, without worry. I had gained precious freedom. I had decided to go to the mall with Suho. We were going to eat some delicious food, check out some clothes and go see a movie. It was going to be a fun day, or so I believed.

A short while later, I would find out just how wrong I was.

“It's Saturday! Let's go have fun!” Suho smiled. He came to pick me up in his car. It was a really cool car. Suho's family was really rich. So Suho only wore brandname clothes and only drove really expensive cars. But he wasn't as arrogant as normal chaebols. He was a really courteous and sweet person.

“What should we eat?” Suho asked as soon as we arrived. “I'm really hungry.” he chuckled.

“Something delicious!” I smiled. I was in a good mood.

“Guys!” a voice behind them called out. It was Suho's friend, Chanyeol. But Chanyeol wasn't alone. I stopped dead in my tracks. It felt as if my heart had also stopped. Beside Chanyeol stood Kyungsoo. My stalker. I couldn't imagine how he had found me. How scary.

“Where're you goin'?” Chanyeol asked Suho.

“To get something delicious to eat.” Suho grinned like an idiot.

“That's great! We were on our way to get something to eat too.. let's go together!” Chanyeol brightly said.

Before Suho could answer, I tried to think how I could stop this.

“No!”. Everyone stared at me with a surprised expression. I had intended to reject his offer more smoothly, but I couldn't think of a good excuse. “Uuuuuhm, 'cause we have reservations at a really hot new restaurant. So it will probably be full.” he explained. It was total bull.

“Oh, really? That's too bad! Next time, then.” Chanyeol answered with a disappointed expression. And the two finally left.

“Hey!! What to do!! Now we can't go to the food court in case they'll see us.” Suho complained.

“Let's just go see a movie.”.

“But I'm hungry!” Suho grumbled.

“Let's have some popcorn, then.” I chuckled.

“I'm buying!” Suho smiled cutely.

“Fine by me!” I smiled back.

“No way!” a familiar voice said. My smile disappeared at once. “Don't tell me you are going to see 'Along With the Gods'?”.

My stomach hurt. It was the same movie. I sent Suho a look that said 'Let's just see a different movie', but Suho shook his head softly. He had already bought the tickets.

“If we run away again, it'll look too suspicious.” Suho whispered.

“Fine...” I frowned.

“But didn't you guys eat that expensive food a little too fast?” Chanyeol asked.

! Busted!

“Oh, nahh.. there was a mistake with the reservation... we just decided to go later.” Suho quickly came up with an excuse.

“That's too bad, but also great! Since we can see the movie together.” Chanyeol's eyes sparkled. Kyungsoo put up a very quiet smile.

“Let's go!” Chanyeol grabbed Suho's arm and went into theater no 1. I couldn't believe that Suho would leave me behind like this. How could he do that?

Me and Kyungsoo awkwardly followed them in.

Chanyeol sat down right next to Suho. I didn't want to sit next to Chanyeol. Especially because it was obvious that then Kyungsoo would sit next to me. So even though it was uncomfortable, I slid past Chanyeol, and Suho, and sat down next to Suho. Then something unbelievable happened. Kyungsoo didn't sit down next to Chanyeol, instead he slid past Chanyeol, Suho and me and sat down right next to me! On no!

The theater turned dark and the movie started.

It was so awkward.

I could feel Kyungsoo next to me. The hairs on my arm stood on end. What if he tried to hold my hand? My heart was about to explode. I could hardly breathe. Then something brushed up against my arm. I started. Kyungsoo handed me a bag of candy. I was going to refuse, but it was my favorite candy and I was so hungry, so I ate two pieces. Kyungsoo had a very satisfied look on his face. It was kind of cute. No, no... creepy.

The moment the movie ended, I realized I had no idea what the movie had been about. I hadn't been able to concentrate. All because of Kyungsoo...
