K-POP: One-Shot Collection

This one-shot is also the one in my Kang Daniel Fanfic, "The Story of the Ambivert"

New Year Bliss

I pulled out the small drawer, contained with my collection of rings. While looking for the 4-piece set of thin silver rings, my fingers felt a piece of folded paper deep inside the drawer. Totally pulling it out, I smiled at the sight of it. It's a small paper origami that Daniel oppa gave me a while back. It was attached to an empty journal he gave me when he asked me to be his girlfriend. I remember it clearly because he slid it my way when we hung out in the library as a date. It had a short but meaningful sentence to it.

"Let me be the words to your empty book."

As soon as I looked at it, I laughed at how witty it was. Then he asked me for my answer in which I said yes. And ever since, I used the journal as a diary, where I took down our memories and special moments.

The doorbell suddenly rang, breaking me out of my trance. I quickly stood up and ran to the security monitor on the living room's wall. Smiling, I clicked the unlock button and ran to the kitchen to bring out the bucket of cookies I baked earlier. The door opened and shut, shortly after, my boyfriend was inside.

I turned to look at him as he also stopped to look my way, chuckling because I was still wearing my robe. I scanned his classic black tux and wine colored button down shirt. He also put his hair up in which I'm guessing that Seongwoo oppa helped him with. He also wore a little bit of makeup which looks good on him. When I met his eyes, he smiled at me making me laugh. I raised my thumbs up at him and nodded, approving of his look. He walked forward, stood in front of me and lifted my chin, giving me a small kiss, or two.

"Jisung oppa did good with your makeup," I said, smiling up at him. He laughed and said, "I did this. He just taught me how to." I raised an amused look. "Well, you did good," I said, patting his chest. "I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who did a great job dressing up." He said, rubbing his thumb on my chin. "I had to make sure I could match your good looks," I replied, walking to the kitchen counter.

I was about to grab the bucket when I felt his presence behind me. I turned around to meet him at eye level, while he placed both hands on the counter edge behind me. He leaned in close, till his neck was inches away from my lips before pulling back again at eye level, with a cookie in his right hand. He looked at me and bit the cookie, making me scrunch my nose at him. What a tease. He looks deadly gorgeous and he knew that. He knew just how big of an effect he has on me and I'm guessing he's going to go all out tonight.

"10 minutes into my house and you're making fun of me," I said, crossing my arms. Instead, he just smiled innocently, tilting his head like he didn't know what I was talking about. He wants to play this game huh. Okay then.

I placed my right hand on the side of his neck, while my other hand took hold of his coat's collar. I pulled him towards me and bit the cookie that was sticking out in his mouth. He froze in shock making me smile.

"You know, you get surprised really easy," I said, grabbing a cookie behind me and biting on one too. To no one's surprise, I was always better at him with the teasing. But he was the best with the cringing ones. So in this way, as cheesy as it sounds, we were meant for each other. "And you blush really quick," I said. He scrunched his nose and pulled back, leaning on the other kitchen counter. "and you don't?" He asked, smiling in a teasing manner. I pouted and shrugged the matter.

As daring as I may sound, I was a er for his sweet gestures and occasional teasing. Sometimes, I was the one teasing him and sometimes, it was him making me freeze and blush in my spot. Sometimes it was him laughing of embarrassment because of my cringing words, and sometimes it was me reacting idly at his cringing remarks.

"We're even then." Raising my closed fist for a fist bump. He nodded and didn't push further, returning the fist bump as well. "Oh right. I'm not yet done." I said quickly returning to my room and to my table. I picked up my rings and put them on my fingers. I pulled out my drawer and scanned through my necklaces. When my door opened again and in came Daniel oppa.

He sat on the edge of my table, also looking through my accessories. "That's a lot." He laughed. "I tend to buy a lot of things and never use them," I said, picking the classic silver chained necklace with a small snowflake pendant made of black diamond. "It looks like a spider web." He laughed. "I'm going off a Spiderman theme," I said, making him laugh. I shook my head in disbelief at how easily amused he got. Putting it on my table, I pushed him out again. "I'll be done in 2 minutes," I said, waving my hand at him while he stood outside the door.

Shutting it immediately, I took off my robe and hung it behind my door. I then wore the necklace and took one final look at the mirror before going out. When I turned around, Daniel oppa stood there smiling. I laughed, embarrassed with the way he looked at me. "I don't look weird, right?" I asked. "You look beautiful." He said, with much sincerity. I smiled at him. "Thanks," I said before turning around to grab my coat and to the doorway. I took my heels from the shoe cabinet but Daniel oppa quickly took them from me and kneeled in front of me. "You always do this," I said, talking about him putting on my shoes for me. "You're wearing a dress, I can do this much as a gentleman." He said, slipping on my last shoe and locking in my ankle strap. He stood up, grabbing my coat from me and helping me put it on. "Shall we?" He asked, tilting his head with that dashing smile of his. I smiled as well and said, "We shall."

Taking his car, we drove our way to the hotel where his company is holding a New Year's Eve party. On our way, He must've noticed that I was quiet because he reached out to hold my hand. I looked at his side profile. "This is the first time I'm meeting your co-workers," I said. "They're nice. Our boss even knows who you are." He said. My eyes widened in shock. "Really?" I asked, more nervous than ever. "He said that he's your senior from college," he said, looking at me briefly. "I don't know. Maybe if I see him I'll remember." I said. "Ah right. You're not good with names." He said. I nodded in agreement. "Don't worry. You'll be fine. I'll be with you the whole time." He said. I started to feel at ease knowing that once he says something, he sticks by it. So I know that he really won't leave my side.

We passed the entrance and stopped in front of the hotel doors, where the valet opened our doors and took the keys to park the car. In a second, Daniel oppa was by my side, taking my hand and lacing it with his arm so I was gripping it as he led us inside and to the hall.

When the doorman opened the door for us, my eyes were blessed with a bunch of good-looking people wearing elegant and classic suits and dresses. A man offered to get our coats and put them somewhere safe while we walked deeper inside the room. A lot of people waved our way, while I bowed my head in reply. Daniel oppa waved his hand but went straight to his closest friend, Guanlin.

"Noona, it's good to see you again." He said, eyes glistening at the sight of us. I too, for a moment let out a breather and hugged the young man. "Thank goodness you're here. I'm seriously intimidated by the people here." I said, standing by his side. "But you work with models." Daniel oppa said. "I'm not used to being surrounded with a lot of good-looking people," I said, slightly freaking out. I closed my eyes and tried to relax. Guanlin laughed beside me making me pout. "Noona, you'll be great. This is your chance to broaden your connections. If ever, it's the people here who should be intimidated by you. You're a designer. You're the future boss." He said, patting my hand. "Listen to the kid. He speaks well now." Daniel oppa said, hugging my shoulder.

"I wasn't going to point this out, but did you know that you've been avoiding looking at me the whole time?" I said, whispering to Daniel oppa by the shoulder. "I'm intimidated by what you're wearing. If the people here didn't know who you already were they'd think you could be another model the guys could hit on." He said. I chuckled, meeting his eyes. I cupped his cheeks and kissed the one closest to me. "You're cute when you're jealous," I said. "And you're teasing me when I'm older than you." He said with gritted teeth. "But thanks, that made me feel better," I said. He raised a brow at me making me smile genuinely at him

I really did feel my confidence build when he indirectly told me that I was model worthy. And with Guanlin pointing out that I am in fact a fashion designer, I guess that also added up because now, I'm feeling more relaxed. On that note, I turned to the young man and patted his arm. "Thanks, Guanlin. By the way, you look really handsome tonight." I said. "Thank you." He smiled that gummy smile of his before we bid goodbye because Daniel oppa brought me to another table.

"Sir, I'd like you to meet..." Before Daniel oppa could finish his sentence, the man turned to me with a smile. "Choi Eun." He said, with a bright smile. I bowed my head in respect. "Good Evening Sir," I said. "And to you two. I told Daniel to bring you tonight." He said, smiling at both of us while patting Daniel oppa's shoulder. Despite his chic attire and charismatic vibe, he had this expression of a proud and easy-going father.

"Kang Dongjun, it's nice to finally meet you. I've heard great things about you." He said, stretching out his hand for a handshake in which I took in shock. He's heard of me? "I've mentioned you, once or twice." Daniel oppa said, clearing out what Mr. Kang said. "I heard that you're very skilled. One of your mentors speaks fondly of you." Mr. Kang said. I laughed embarrassed by the sudden flattering words. "By chance, is it Ms. Erin?" I asked. Then it finally clicked. I gasped softly, Daniel oppa also turning to me in shock. "You're Ms. Erin's father," I said. He nodded. "Yes, I am." He smiled, showing that eye smile of his that he's been showing. I covered my mouth in shock and glee. "It's such an honor to meet you, sir. I'm sorry I didn't recognize you at first." I said. "Our president doesn't show up much, ever since he had his own family." Daniel oppa said, turning to Mr. Kang for confirmation. He smiled and nodded in agreement. "I do. But I would really like it if you'd consider working for us. I'm looking for designers to help me with my next female collection, and I think you're the right choice." He said. I smiled widely in joy. Without a second thought, I gave him an answer. "I would be honored and grateful. Thank you, sir." I said, my voice changing to a higher pitch. "We'll meet again soon then to work out some details. Excuse me for a while, I'll have to tend to our guests." He said, reaching out his hand for us to shake once more. We both nodded and bid our goodbyes, and when he was out of sight. I turned to hug Daniel oppa.

"Tell me I'm not dreaming." I said, out of breath "This is real. Are you feeling happy?" he asked, rubbing my shoulder. I looked up at him, my hands at his chest. "I feel wonderful. My heart is beating so fast." I laughed in glee. "Oh my gosh. This is amazing." Awed and in shock, I placed my head on top of my hands.

He's a top designer. How did I not recognize him? But that's not the issue now. He just asked me for a collaboration. This is definitely amazing. "See? So far so good, right?" He asked, raising my chin with his finger. I nodded and gave him a peck on his cheek. "Thanks for convincing me to come tonight," I said with much sincerity. He smiled and nodded.

We spent the rest of the night talking and having drinks here and there with my boyfriend's colleagues. Most of them are models, but some were also in the field of acting. Apparently, Daniel oppa's agency has three sub-companies. One for actors and actresses, one for musicians and idols, and one for models. I mean, I knew he works for a big company but looking at it first-hand, I could feel a lot of artistry and charismatic soul around this place. Looking left, there were the familiar faces of the idols and singers. And at the right, were a bunch of good-looking actors and models. Now that I'm taking a good look around, I noticed that most of the people here are famous.

Breaking me out of my trail of thoughts, Daniel oppa led me by the waist towards the dance floor. Classical music echoed throughout the hall, the chandelier hanging brightly in the middle. Some already started to dance in the middle, engaged in a slow mellow tempo waltz. Looking up at him when we stopped, he guided my hand to his shoulder while his other hand held on to the small of my back. He then held my hand and pulled me close to him, his lips by my ear.

"Your back is bare. How come I'm noticing this only now?" He whispered as we started to move. "But you helped me with my coat." I retorted. "Yeah, but I was looking at your reflection at the glass wall." He said through gritted teeth. "And you're mad because?" I asked. "No wonder the guys kept asking who you were." He said softly. I smiled, pulling him closer. I placed both of his hands at my back, then I slid mine by his shoulders. "Should I get my coat then? Or should we leave so then they won't stare?" I asked in a teasing and sarcastic manner. He scrunched his nose instead, as a silent reply that meant 'neither'.

"You're one to talk, all the women here keep on looking at you," I said, shifting the subject to him. "Really? I don't think so." He laughed. "Let's be honest here. You know you'd be turning heads tonight because of how you look." I said. He was quiet for a minute there making me slap his chest then he laughed, embarrassed. "I can't lie." He said. I scoffed jokingly. Then he bent down by my ear and whispered, "Be honest too. You chose this dress with an intention." When he said that, I reacted the same way that he did. "Yeah well, we're even then," I said. He tilted his head in agreement, then he spun me once and bent me backward. Rising up, we both laughed at what he did. And for the rest of the song, we danced in silence and just enjoying the echo of the music and the warmth of each other's embrace.

The night was unusually warmer than any other night. Maybe because we drank a lot or maybe it's because they raised the temperature inside the hall. Either way, it felt warmer. Daniel oppa and I moved to somewhere more private and isolated from the others, which was an indoor balcony on the second floor. It overlooked the whole event below, but on the other side, showed the big glass window showing the view of the city and the night sky. If you stood close to it, you could see the bright streets of Seoul. If you look straight, you could see the Han river, glistening with the reflection from the lights of the Han bridge. And if you look up slightly, the view of the starry night came into sight. No matter where one's eyes landed, it was a sight worth seeing. The architect really did a great job placing this huge glass window. But what's better, is this velvet bench by the window. I sat here, waiting for Daniel oppa who offered to make me sit while he went to get us some drinks. 10 minutes gone, and a lot has passed through my mind already.

I remember, this same time as last year, I was struggling with my designs because I was holding a fashion show on the 3rd week of January. I could clearly remember my parents scolding me to take it easy on myself because it was New Year 's Eve and I was there in my studio, stuck and stressing over my finale gown. The theme I had was classic bride, where the collection consisted of different bridal gowns. From vintage to classic to modernized. At that time, it was only Seongwoo oppa's sister who I knew, because I designed her wedding gown.

On that day, I listened to my parents and went out to actually enjoy the once in a year party. "It's not every day that it turns 2017 dear. Go out and enjoy." Was what my dad said to convince me to meet up with people and go to a party. So I went, and boy did I party all right. I went to a club with a few female friends of mine and that's where I met my man. It was weird at first because I wasn't expecting any guys to tag with us. My friends invited Seongwoo oppa and his friends to sit at our table when we coincidentally saw them looking for a booth. And since I was in party mode and I thought it was a girl's night out, I dressed a little too uncomfortably to be seen by a male friend. Usually, when we partied with our male friends, I would wear something less revealing. But that night was an exception, sadly. Daniel oppa, who was a stranger to me that time, was the only one who noticed I was uncomfortable with my clothes and offered me his flannel so I could tie it around my waist and cover-up. He then kindly asked if I wanted to dance and I said yeah sure why not, he seemed like a nice guy. And indeed he was. He was just that nice, that it made me fall for him on the same day I met him. A year later and here we are now. Who knew right?

Once again, breaking me out of my deep thinking, Daniel oppa approached me from behind and whispered by my ear. "Here." He said, handing me a glass of champagne. I smiled and took it. He sat down, stretching one leg to the other side so the bench was in between his legs. I, on the other hand, crossed my legs and turned my torso to face him. Raising my glass for a toast, I said "Here's to the end of 2017." He raised his glass too and added, "And to the start of a new adventure with you." He tilted his glass making me tilt mine and clank it with his. We both took a sip, then he took our glasses and placed it on the ground. He took my hands and held it dearly.

"Thank you. For making me the happiest and grateful man this year. " He said, smiling at me before he raised my hands and kissed it both. I placed his hands, so it'd cup my cheeks then I held his. He laughed making me grin. "Thank you. For being the greatest gift of my life this year. I couldn't ask for a better blessing." I said, grazing my thumb over his cheek. He leaned forward, moving his other hand from my cheek to my arm and his other hand to the side of my neck. I closed my eyes, resting my hands on his chest when I slowly felt his breath inching closer. When our lips touched, he pulled me closer to him making me follow in reflex. It felt like fireworks already exploded from the feeling his kiss is giving me. He inched closer, totally moving his whole body to be closer to mine, hands snaking to slide down my neck to my shoulders and down my . While my hands found its way to his nape. I pulled him closer to me, tilting my head as well. I could feel him chuckle through the kiss making me slightly flush. I guess I was tipsy from too much alcohol. He pulled back making me look at him. "You're drunk." He laughed. "And you talk too much," I said, pulling him back in. He didn't mind though, because we kissed in the night until the loud sound of the bell faded away.
