Chapter 8: Girl Crush

Dandelion (Koi No Yokan Series - Book 1)

“Good morning!” Wheein greeted with a smile until she noticed Solar glare at her from behind the counter of the MoonSun Cafe, “Uh…H-hi”.

“Jung Wheein,” The pink haired woman called sternly as Wheein noticed Hwasa rubbing her head, slightly frowning at the touch.

“I swear! It was her idea!” Wheein shouted as she tried to make a run for the door, but she was quickly stopped by Solar, who didn’t hesitate to choke her.

“Do something like that again and I will choke you for real!” Solar warned before letting go of the blonde girl, who was left breathing heavily. After the whole incident with Woozi and Moonbyul a few days ago, Solar had gone over to Hwasa’s apartment to interrogate her about the whole Moonbyul-Might-Have-A-Girl-Crush-But-Is-Surely-Not-Me situation. While the spawn of evil, Alias Hwasa, had spilled the beans rather easily – claiming it had been Wheein’s idea to bring her and Moonbyul to the amusement park – she remained adamant about not telling her about Moonbyul not liking her and Woozi together.

“We were just trying to do some good for humanity,” Hwasa protested as Wheein nodded.

“If you guys ended up together, the world would become a better place,” She beamed as Solar raised an eyebrow at the pair.

“Why do you even think that?” Solar asked, but her question went unanswered as Moonbyul came out of her office. Their eyes met briefly as Moonbyul quickly looked away. They had been unable to speak about what had happened. It was partially Hwasa’s fault since Solar had no idea how to even begin a conversation with Moonbyul now. Apologize for overreacting, talk a bit about how nice the weather is and then just question her about why she did not like Woozi being her Soulmate? It did not sound like the best approach.

“Uh…Hwasa, come here for a sec,” The black haired woman called rather awkwardly as Hwasa swiftly followed her boss into her office. Once the door was shut close, Wheein turned to look at Solar who couldn’t help but have a sullen look on her face.

“Unnie,” Wheein called as Solar turned to look at her, “I feel like you should just try and talk to her”.

“How do I even do that now? I just-…there’s so much I’m scared to ask,” Solar explained, unconsciously holding on to her right wrist.

“Then wait for her to tell you since she will,” Wheein said rather wisely, “For now just apologize and fix your friendship, okay?”.

“Whoa. When did you become so wise, Wheein?” Solar questioned in a teasing tone.

“I had my fair share of problems, Unnie,” Wheein explained with a grin as the bell above the main door of the café jingled, indicating a customer had arrived.

“Welcome!” Solar greeted as her smile grew wider upon seeing who had arrived, “Hey, Yoongi!”. The blue haired boy simply offered her a crooked grin before sitting beside Wheein on the stools in front the counter.

“You look tired, Oppa,” Wheein observed as Yoongi nodded.

“I’ve been working for 3 days straight so, yeah,” Yoongi explained briefly. His usually pale complexion looked anything but okay as he sported a pair of bags under his eyes.

“I can tell,” Solar said as she went away to make Yoongi’s usual order: An extremely bitter black coffee.

“Is Woozi still coming over?” Yoongi asked as he took out his phone. It had been an unexpected turn of events when Yoongi and Woozi met once again in MoonSun café and learned that they both were avid music lovers. The purple haired boy then showed Yoongi his bluish notebook, which was filled with songs Woozi had written and composed. It was like that that Yoongi, somehow, ended up inviting Woozi for a recording session on his friend’s studio.

“He said yes yesterday,” Solar replied as she placed Yoongi’s coffee before him.

“Okay. I’ll text him later anyways,” Yoongi said as he paid for his order – which he knew by now how much it was – before standing up and walking towards the door, “Say hi to Noona for me,” He added before walking out the café, only for a familiar face to come in.

“Hey, Irene!” Solar chirped as she ran over to give the two-toned haired woman a hug. Wheein simply bowed politely at the pair, as she didn’t really know them.

“Solar, this is my Soulmate Seungwan,” Irene said as the girl beside her offered them a radiant smile. Much like Irene, Seungwan was also sporting a two-toned hairstyle, yet unlike Irene’s half-brown and half-pink color, Seungkwan had half-brown and half-blue hair.

“Call me Wendy,” Wendy said as Solar couldn’t help but find her adorable. While Irene was much grace and beauty, Wendy looked like a puppy, dorky, yet adorable nonetheless. It sort of reminded her of Wheein.

“It’s so nice to meet you, Wendy,” Solar said as she noticed that below Wendy’s collarbone - in lavender letters - was the name Joo-Hyun, which Solar knew - since College - was Irene’s real name.

“Same! Hyun talks about you like a lot!” Wendy beamed as Solar glanced at Irene who looked a bit confused.

“She always talks about how she remembers when she was young-…Hey, Ouch!” Wendy yelped as Irene pinched her hip, causing the younger girl to abruptly stop her story.

“What are you even saying, Wannie? I’m still young,” Irene said through gritted teeth.

“I know. You’re the one who talks like that, though,” Wendy rebuked rather calmly as Irene was about to scold her, but was left speechless when the shorter girl swiftly tangled their hands together.

“Don’t get mad~ I was kidding~ you’re young and pretty, Hyun~” Wendy said, her words dripping with sweetness.

“Aren’t you too sweet?” Irene simpered, “But being sweet won’t safe you from not buying me a green tea,” She added as Wendy’s smile turned into a pout.

“Not fair! I said sorry!” Wendy sulked, crossing her arms before her chest.

“I’ll buy yours then,” Irene assured, placing a quick kiss on her cheek. Wheein unconsciously wheezed - the sweet moment shared by the two soulmates having taken her by surprise- causing the couple to look at her with bewilderment.

“Oops, sorry!” Wheein apologized – clearly flustered by her actions - as she went to hide behind Solar who was staring at Irene and Wendy with a blank expression. The pink haired woman couldn’t help but feel intrigued at how loving the two were. Woozi and her…they never did anything like that. Solar had never thought about kissing him…ever.

“Do you guys always hold hands and kiss?” Solar absentmindedly asked as Irene and Wendy glanced at each other and then back at her.

“Well, yeah. Don’t you do it with your soulmates?” Wendy asked as Solar shook her head.

“No, actually,” Solar said as she couldn’t help but feel a mixture of feelings fill her. Woozi was just a boy while she was a fully-grown woman. Their relationship was far from being like Wendy and Irene’s. Woozi was someone she needed to protect and take care of…while She…what was she for Woozi?

“I think you broke her,” Wheein said as she waved a hand before Solar’s face before this one quickly shook her head.

“I…I’ll be back,” Solar said as she suddenly went towards Moonbyul’s office, knocked once and screamed a loud, “Byul, I’ll be back soon, sorry, bye!”.

“Solar! Yah, you can’t leave just like that!” Moonbyul screamed from her office. By the time she managed to reach the door, Solar was already gone.

“…So, anyone mind telling me what happened?” Moonbyul asked as she turned to look at Wendy and Irene, who simply shrugged.

“Honestly, we’re not very sure either,” Wendy confessed as Moonbyul glanced at Wheein.

“I don’t know. She just froze after watching Irene Unnie and Wendy Unnie kiss,” Wheein explained as Moonbyul frowned.

After seeing them kiss? Why? Moonbyul wondered, but quickly dismissed the thought. They were still in bad terms, so even if she was worried about Solar suddenly running away…there was not much she could do. If anything, Solar was probably going to ignore her…again.

“Never mind,” Moonbyul said with a forced a smile, “Let’s all just get back to work. She said she’ll come back anyway,” She added before she left to her office.

“Well,” Hwasa began saying as Wheein noticed her holding an apron.

“NO! I have a job to go to!” Wheein protested as Hwasa smirked.

“You work in the morning every Friday, Saturday and Monday…today is Tuesday, which means you work at night,” Hwasa rebuked with ease as Wheein sighed before reluctantly walking over to let her friend put the apron on her.

************

“This was fun, Hyung,” Woozi chirped, still mesmerized by the medium sized music studio above Jin’s music store. While it was decent enough to be called a music studio, Yoongi still felt it could be better by adding a few more instruments –Like a grand piano instead of a keyboard and a guitar amplifier – and an additional mixing console with maybe 8-16 channels.

“I know. We should do it again. Your songs are good,” Yoongi praised as he was still sitting right behind his mixing console. They had recorded a few of Woozi’s songs and to be honest, they were not bad. They were not Yoongi’s type of music, but they were catchy nonetheless.

“Yeah. The vocal booth was amazing,” Woozi noted as Yoongi nodded, remembering fondly when Jin and Namjoon first installed it for him. He had been more than happy to try it with Jimin since he had always loved Jimin’s voice: a mellow tenor who was flexible enough to reach higher notes.

“It is,” Yoongi said as he turned to look at Woozi, “How is it that you know so much about music? Did you go to a music school?” He asked as Woozi shook his head.

“I learned it from-…” Yoongi raised an eyebrow as he noticed Woozi go quiet all of a sudden, “From…my friends”.

“Your friends must know a lot then. Not everyone knows how to write, compose and arrange a song,” Yoongi said as he notices Woozi’s bright expression slowly darken.

“Yeah…they do,” Woozi replied, as Yoongi knew he had probably hit a weak point in Woozi’s mind. Woozi’s friends were most likely Woozi’s soulmates…who by what he suspected, had not being all that nice to the purple haired boy. Before Yoongi could speak, there was a sudden knock on his door.

“Come in,” Yoongi said as Jimin peeked inside, much to the blue haired boy’s surprise, “Jimin? You need something?” He asked a bit too eagerly.

“Uh…not me,” Jimin said as he swiftly moved to a side before the man behind him could run him over.

“We’re f***ed, Yoongi!” The man said, much to Woozi’s surprise and Yoongi’s amusement.

“When are we not, Namjoon?” Yoongi asked with a smirk as the man with the strawberry pink mark that read Seokjin below his right eye made a face at Yoongi’s reaction.

“Hyung, I’m serious!” Namjoon protested as he took out his phone, “Look here,” He said as he showed his phone to Yoongi, whose smirk quickly faded and became a frown.

“Where the f**k did he come from?” Yoongi asked as Namjoon shrugged.

“I don’t know. He had been appearing everywhere. People are loving him like crazy,” He said as Yoongi sighed before he stood up and picked up the jacket he had lazily thrown on the couch behind him.

“Come on,” Yoongi said as he halted in his steps when he saw Jimin standing by the doorframe. While his face remained expressionless, his eyes told a whole different story.

Let’s talk. Please. Jimin’s mind begged over and over like a broken recorder, yet, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything.

“Have fun,” Jimin said with a halfhearted smile before lowering his head and leaving the small studio. He couldn’t bear the look on Yoongi’s face. More than dejected or angry, Yoongi felt guilty and even without saying a word about it, he knew Jimin knew.

“…Let’s go,” Yoongi said, ignoring the aching of his heart that kept telling him to stay.
