Chapter 11: Lonely People

Dandelion (Koi No Yokan Series - Book 1)

A knock on the door made Yoongi groan as he tried to ignore it…until the knocking became more like punching the door, so with much reluctance, he stood up and opened.

“Jin Hyung, I said-…” Before Yoongi could finish speaking, someone shoved him out of the way, causing him to fall backwards on the couch.

“You sit here,” Solar ordered as Jimin – frighten for his life – did as told.

“Noona? What are you-…” Yoongi tried to ask but Solar cut him short.

“I don’t like fights and I’m in a very bad mood, so you two better fix whatever problem you have. Now,” Solar demanded, her usual brightness completely gone and replaced with an empty tone and a somber expression. The two guys glanced at each other before looking away, both of them reluctant to speak to each other.

“YAH!!!” Solar suddenly roared, causing Jimin to jump out of fear while Yoongi’s eyes went wide in shock, “Do you think I’m kidding?! I said, talk!”.

“I don’t want to. I said what I had to say,” Yoongi protested as Solar narrowed her eyes at him before tilting his head at him.

“All was said? No, no, no. You’re going to say more then, because nobody leaves this room until one of you says the following to the other: Sorry, I love you or I forgive you…I HATE YOU!! Is not acceptable,” Yoongi couldn’t help but question Solar’s mental state as she simply gave him a forced smile, “Talk”. Too frighten to stay quiet, Yoongi turned to look at Jimin. He couldn’t help but feel hurt, as he knew Jimin was crying again because of him.

“Jimin…” Yoongi called, eyeing Solar who gave him an encouraging nod…followed by waving her rather menacing fist, “I…I know I never have time for you or anyone. Honestly, I try…but I guess trying is not enough”. Jimin didn’t say anything as he simply listened to Yoongi while wiping his tear stained cheeks.

“I…I honestly felt like s**t about the day I tried to find you on the amusement park…because I honestly wanted to give you a surprise but well, look where that got us. It’s just that…it always feels like we are never in the same lane. While you are driving smoothly…I just seem to keep crashing against some wall named B.I who happens to be younger and more talented than me…and just trying to do what I’ve always dreamed of…I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore if it means to lose all what I love and care about,” Yoongi said, wiping a lone tear that had rolled down his cheek.

“Hyung, don’t say that,” Jimin quickly said as he knelt down before his soulmate, placing his hands on top of Yoongi’s, “I-I was stupid too. To think you were with someone else that day, it was wrong and just a stupid, stupid misunderstanding. I was angry for all those times we never had time for each other and ended up getting my hopes up for nothing. I just…really began to think you were with someone else since you were never around…but I was wrong since all those days I’ve spent dancing, you have spent them rapping. We have been chasing what we want without really talking about it…If only we had said we were sad or happy…maybe then nothing of this would have happened,” Jimin’s sincerity made Yoongi smile as more tears drenched his cheeks.

“I think so too, Jiminnie,” Yoongi said as Jimin gave him one of the brightest smile the blue haired boy had ever seen.

“I’m sorry, Hyun-…Yoongi. I’m so, so, so sorry,” Jimin said, wiping the silent tears that had began to fall from his eyes.

“I’m sorry too,” Yoongi said as the blonde haired boy swiftly wrapped his arm around him. He couldn’t lie and say he had not missed Jimin’s hugs. The younger boy’s faint cinnamon scent was Yoongi’s favorite smell as it always reminded him of his little piece of joy.

“I love you, Chimchim,” Yoongi whispered as Jimin hid his face on Yoongi’s neck, which had that familiar coffee scent that the younger boy had learned to like and miss often.

“I love you too, Yoongi,” Jimin replied, as Solar couldn’t help but smile. After the horrible weeks she had, seeing this heartwarming scene made her feel less downcast than before. So, Solar – who did not wish to disturb Jimin and Yoongi’s moment - quietly slipped out the room. Her plan, however, did not go as planned as she bumped into someone which made her shriek and almost fall down if it wasn’t for the pair of familiar arms that wrapped themselves around her waist, preventing her from falling.

“Solar?” It was always funny how fate worked since Solar would have never thought of meeting Moonbyul right then and there.

“Oh! I-I-I…Hi…” Solar breathed out, as she couldn’t help but stare at Moonbyul’s face: her slanted sparkling eyes, her sharp nose…and her pastel colored lips. It was all rather breathtaking…and tempting.

“Oh, Noona. I didn’t know you were coming today,” Yoongi’s voice said as Solar quickly snapped out of her trance, swiftly moving away from Moonbyul’s arms.

“I, uh yes. I sort of wanted to make some songs,” Moonbyul explained briefly, much to Solar’s surprise, as she didn’t know Moonbyul was into music. When they were younger, Moonbyul didn’t show much interest in music; she would run off to play with video games whenever Solar asked her if she wanted to go to a karaoke.

“Oh, sure. Go ahead,” Yoongi said as he walked out the studio, hand in hand with a beaming Jimin. Moonbyul quietly stepped inside the room, as Solar stood on the hallway, unsure about following her.

“You can come in, you know,” Moonbyul said with ease, as she sat before Yoongi’s mixing console. With a bit of hesitation, Solar closed the door behind her as she sat on the couch Yoongi and Jimin had previously been. A heavy silence soon fell between the two, as none of them knew what to say. There was so much to be said…yet none of them knew where or how to begin.

“Hey, Yeba,” Moonbyul called as Solar unconsciously smiled at the familiar nickname.

“I told you to not call me that,” Solar protested rather weakly as Moonbyul gave her charming smile which made Solar wonder since when had Moonbyul become so different in her eyes? Just a few years back, Moonbyul was just her bluffing, fun-loving friend who rarely ever had a clean shirt since she was obsessed with making graffiti everywhere she went. Now…Moonbyul was all grown up. The bluffing and fun were gone and replaced with charisma and beauty.

“Can you sing me a song?” The black haired woman requested as Solar’s smile faltered until it was completely gone. It had been so long since she had sung.

“I-I…don’t we have a lot to talk about? I would like to-…” Before Solar could finish speaking, Moonbyul cut her off by placing a paper before her. Solar raised an eyebrow as she quickly examined the paper. The handwriting was clean enough, except for a few scratches here and there; aside form that, everything on the page was clean and detailed.

“This…is Woozi’s handwriting,” Solar noted.

“Yoongi said that he left it here when he came,” Moonbyul explained as Solar eyes went wide upon noticing that it was not just some random words. It was a song…Solar’s song in fact. It was an old melody she had tried to finish…but when she gave up singing, she sort of forgot about it. Now…it was done. Woozi had filled the empty spaces with his own thoughts and music, which matched like a puzzle piece with Solar’s mindset back then.

“Whoa…he really is talented,” Solar said with a soft smile gracing her face.

“Can you sing me that, Yongsun?” Moonbyul asked as Solar looked up at her. She couldn’t comprehend why Moonbyul was so persistent about her singing when there was so much they had to talk about; yet, she wouldn’t protest as she wasn’t all that brave either to try to bring up their problems. Without saying a word, Solar sat before the keyboard in the studio. Maybe she’ll want to talk after I sing. Solar thought as she slowly began to play a few notes. It had been so long since she had played a piano and yet…it all felt like it was yesterday as her fingers soon found the right notes of the melody.

“…Maybe we’re just lonely people.

We’re happy when we meet,

But when we say goodbye.

We can’t stand being alone,

As our hearts…ache,” Solar sang, her voice just as beautiful as Moonbyul remembered it.

On Lonely nights when it rains,

I cry without anyone knowing,

As I think, maybe someone will come see me,

My heart races at the thought,” How could she have forgotten? It was now so clear why Moonbyul had asked her to sing. The black haired woman had always known how liberating singing was for Solar, even though she didn’t do it as often as she used to. Her voice, her singing, usually flowed with emotions she couldn’t always say. So, now that she had began to sing…she couldn’t stop the tears rolling down her cheeks. As Solar’s song neared the end, Moonbyul kept her eyes fixed on the pink haired woman.

“…We don’t want to say goodbye,

We don’t want to be alone,

So we love…” Solar sang the last verse of the song before sobbing harder. Everything…felt so heavy. Moonbyul, Woozi, her parents, even singing…everything…

“How do you feel?” Moonbyul spoke up as Solar turned around to face her.

“M-much better,” Solar stammered as she gave her friend a halfhearted smile.

“Well, since I’m not a singer…I guess I do have to talk,” Moonbyul began saying, clearly nervous by how her eyes kept shaking, “I’m sorry. I’ve been lying to you for a long time”.

“W-what? About w-what?” Solar asked with perplexity.

“I do have a Soulmate…I’ve always had,” Moonbyul confessed as Solar’s eyes went wide.

“What? Why did you never tell me?” The pink haired woman questioned as Moonbyul glanced down at her trembling hands.

“I was afraid…of what you would say,” Moonbyul explained briefly, her focus now on the silvery ring on her thumb, which was the same one on Krystal’s thumb now.

“Me? Why? You know I would never judge you, Byul,” Solar rebuked.

“I know…but your mind sort of goes blank when you first see the mark,” The black haired woman said as she finally looked up to meet Solar’s widen eyes, “And…it’s never easy to tell your long time friend who also happens to be before you that they are your soulmate” She added as Solar gasped, taken back by the confession. All along…it had been her…

“Solar, you’re my soulmate. You have been for a long time now…I…I knew then that it was you who I wanted to keep by my side, even if it was only as friends,” Moonbyul explained as a smile graced her face, “I should have said something sooner, but I just didn’t seem to have the courage…now I feel like this is the last decision I’ll be able to make by myself”.

“What do you mean?” Solar asked, suddenly feeling uneasy about Moonbyul’s words. She had never been able to tell when she was lying…even now…Solar couldn’t tell what was going through Moonbyul’s mind.

“What do you mean, Byulyi? Why is this your last choice?” Solar asked sternly as Moonbyul gritted her teeth. There was nothing to lie about. Everything that would be said now…it was the last thing Moonbyul would do on her free will.

“Because I’m going to take over my father’s company like my brother wanted…and I’m going to marry Krystal,” Moonbyul confessed as Solar’s expression became completely blank. She was speechless…and hurt. The sudden aching in her heart…Solar knew very well why it was. She had denied it for far too long for her not to know by now. Without saying another word, Solar stood up and walked up to Moonbyul, who was staring at her with perplexity.

“What about me then?” Solar questioned as Moonbyul furrowed her eyebrows.

“What about-…” Before the younger woman could finish speaking Solar cut her off by placing her lips on Moonbyul’s. The sweet taste of vanilla didn’t seem to take away the bitter feeling on Solar’s heart who knew this was wrong…very wrong as Moonbyul was with Krystal. Confused and taken back, Moonbyul quickly broke their kiss by pushing Solar away, who quickly covered as she realized what she had done.

Why? Why now? Moonbyul thought as she briskly stood up and ran out the studio, ignoring Solar who kept calling for her.

“Ouch!” The pink haired woman yelped as she felt a stabbing pain on her wrist which she ignored as she went after Moonbyul. Unaware to her…was the indigo Byulyi now adorning her skin.
