Wendy and Joohyun were on their journey, exchanging small talk such as plans for after university and whatnot.

“What about you Wendy-ssi, is there something that you’re passionate about?”

“I hope you don’t mind Irene-ssi but could we drop the formalities? I doubt I am that much older than you. But o-only if that’s okay with you?”

“Yeah of course. So, Wendy. Any passions?”

Hesitantly she answered “… music…” barely a whisper, but Irene heard it loud and clear.

“Cool, I get the vibe that you’re a good singer, from your voice and English pronunciation. I bet you would be good for radio also.”

Replying in perfect English “Well thank you very much m’lady.” Wendy sarcastically sang.

Not understanding what the latter said, Joohyun continued “I would really like to hear you sing… LIGHTBULB IDEA… “You should try that open mic next month on campus!”

“Uh… I don’t know, as crazy as it might sound… I am not that confident in front of people”

“Puh-lease, are you forgetting about your public roast on Krystal last week and how terrible she was in bed. It was hilarious by the way… not confident my arse.”

“Uh- I guess… thanks” Her mood seemed to change a bit. Noticing this Irene placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Hey, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. It was just a suggestion. But… if you decide to do it Seulgi, Joy and I will be there supporting you.” She said with sincere eyes.

As the two figures stared at each other for a bit too long, their session was interrupted by a loud car honk. Irene, being the startled bunny she is, jumped into Wendy’s arms. Wendy caught her and stabilised themselves before asking if she was okay. Joohyun assured the latter and they continued walking. Wendy couldn’t help but wonder why people were looking at the two as they walked, she peered down and caught their hands intertwined… funnily it felt right. Wendy enjoyed the warmth and felt that Joohyun was equally comfortable with the contact and therefore left their hands laced together. They walked a bit longer in the friendly silence until they reached Irene’s dorm.

“This is me. Thanks for walking with me.”

“No problem, it was my pleasure and convenient as well, seeing as my place isn’t far from here. Thanks for lunch today, it was really nice meeting your friends.”

“You should hang out with us more often, we go to karaoke and other places most weekends.”

“I like the sound of that.”

“Here give me your number then” The two exchanged phones and saved their contacts.

“Joygi really liked you anyways.”

“Joygi ?”

“Yeah that’s their ship name that I gave them.

“So I guess that would make us Wenrene, right?” She smirked

Flustered at the thought of the ship, Irene replied “… uh I guess”

Feeling the awkwardness Wendy left first, as she walked off she checked her phone and chuckled when she saw the contact saved as: #1 Bae Joohyun (Irene). Whilst Irene did the same at the contact: Your Wan and Only (Wendy Son Seungwan). Both squealed at the cute antics, not knowing it would be the start of a very good friendship.

Weeks had past and like Wendy promised, she attended every business lecture, just to keep Irene company. Some days she would bring food and treats and be in the best moods but other days she just stayed quiet and slept. Seungwan also noticed a pattern, her one night stands deteriorated ever since she met Joohyun, she was proud of herself. You go Wan!

As for Irene and Wendy’s relationship, both didn’t know what it was, neither did they want to put a label on it. It was simply a couple of meals together, lunch with the group of four friends, walking back to her place and sometimes taking a B-line route to the nearest park along with frequent texting. It was casual and both felt mutually happy. Wendy felt her mental health improving widely as she shared her secrets with Irene, who just listened and never judged. Irene on the other hand was amazing, she noticed a vast change in Wendy, and it indeed was for the better. She proved Joy and Seulgi wrong. She felt much closer to Wendy as they unveiled informational about themselves, heck they even called each other by their birth names and it felt… right. The famous ‘stages of Wendy Son’ which were once affiliated with the girl seemed to be no more and Irene was ecstatic at her new friendship.

Life was good. But for some reason both started feeling things and wanted more of this relationship. Today Wendy was on her way to the business lecture with a plan in mind. Her thoughts were interrupted when her phone rang indicating she got a text.

Before entering the doors, Wendy mentally prepared herself, ran a hand through her hair, puffed her chest and in she went. Feeling confident… that was until she saw the girl she was planning to have.
