When I first met her, I was twelve. She wasn’t yet the most beautiful in the class. She was even a year older than me I almost swore she could have skipped the entire grade already. She has those big nerdy glasses, but gosh, she looks rather athletic than smart. She would stare at me from head to toe and inspect me as if I’m a kind of blueprint or something. I was wary of her before. And somehow, unconsciously, I annoy the hell out of her.
The first time, she was standing by the admin office waiting for me. Her hair was jet black, unlike mine, which was light brown. Her skin was milky white, similar to what celebrities have to look good on screen. She looked like the usual elegant teen model, to be honest, but her eyes ruined the image. It was startling dark brown, studying me as if I’ll be someone easy to tackle down in a fight.
The one in-charge told me she will bring me to my class and show me around. When I took a glance at her, she wasn’t a tad bit friendly at all.
Instead, she said.
“You look stupid.”
Mean, I know. How many thirteen-year-olds have you seen saying that at their first meeting? Only her, I guess.
Rather than giving a smart reply, I think I mentioned something dumb though. But looking down at my simple shirt with words Another day, another disaster… I guess I really look stupid.
“Uh… thanks?”
She didn’t smile at all.
She leads me to our classroom. According to her, we’ll be classmates from now on and that I should be an exemplary student while she’s the class president. She must’ve guessed that I’m a troubled kid. What do you expect from a kid with ADHD, anyway? Even if you tie me on my chair for the rest of the day, I’ll still find a way out.
Yeah, and I’d be dead by now, but no problem.
She went to take a seat, not even bothering to tell me her name. I looked awkwardly around the class, but students were giving me the mystified looks, and the stare of expectation from our homeroom teacher wasn’t exactly the best either.
“Dear, you can introduce yourself to your classmates now.”
Nervously, I bowed down and speak in a loud voice.
“Hey! I’m Wendy Son! I recently moved from Canada. Please take care of me!”
