“How are you?” she asks

“Fine…”

“It’s been a while”

“It has”, he replies.

The look on Matthew’s face is very cold. Jiwoo had never seen him look like that. He had always been so full of emotions and smiled without holding back. Right now though, he had a far away look in his eyes and his lips were pressed into a thin line.

“How have you been?” she asks.

“Peachy”, he replies in almost a sarcastic tone.

“And who is your friend?” she asks.

“This is Jiwoo”, he says simply.

Nothing else.

“Hi, nice to meet you…I’m his girlfriend”, Jiwoo says, unsure about weather or not she should be introducing herself like that.

Matthew had introduced her to everyone else as his girlfriend. She felt confused when he didn’t do the same this time.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Hyuna!” she says with a bright smile and offers her a hand.

Jiwoo takes it and they shake hands.

“And this is Hyunseung, my husband”, she adds as she places her elegantly painted fingers on a tall man next to her.

He exchanged greetings with Jiwoo too.

“It so nice to see you again Matthew”, Hyuna says with a small smile.

“You too”, he replies but he doesn’t sound very sincere.

“Where did you two meet?” Hyuna asks.

“Ah, he was a customer in the bookstore I work in”, Jiwoo says as she glances at Matthew who has suddenly found his shoes really interesting.

“Aw, that sounds so romantic”, Hyuna says.

“It would be if it wasn’t for the fact that Taehyung had set it up”, Jiwoo says with a roll of her eyes.

Hyuna laughs.

“So it was set up?”

“I guess but it was up to us to make it work, right Mat?” Jiwoo says as she gently links her hands around his hand.

He finally looks up at her.

Her heart hurts as she sees the sad look in his eyes. It made her want to hug him but instead she smiles at him.

His eyes widen as he lets out a small gasp. Her grip around his hand tightens and it brings him back to reality.

He smiles back.

Really, smiles back.

She feels her heart skip a beat at his sincere smile.
