that cat 🐈 (chomi)

Bomi's POV

I used to be a normal girl with a normal life. Everything seemed so perfect to me until a nightmare happened. I was so careless that I blamed myself and perhaps, I deserved to be like that. Stuck in this deadass body of a cat forever. I can't really remember what happened. I was heading home. The skies had already gone dark and certainly I was late for dinner with my family. Crossing the bridge under the traffic, there was an odd stall in the middle of nowhere. There was an old grandma seated in front as she displayed a large array of strange amulets and accessories I've never seen in my life. Well, not that I cared.

I ran across, hoping not to miss my bus. The station was right there, after crossing the bridge but I heard her calling out for me. I don't know why but I stopped my steps and turned around.

"Hello young lady, would you be interested in buying a necklace? A beautiful lady like you shouldn't leave your neck bare like that." The old woman chimed. I gulped. I could just ignore her and walk away but yet again, I am a kind person especially to the elderly. I had wondered if she was possibly trying to earn a living and maybe I should just help her out. After all, I took a peek and the prices were quite affordable.

"I'll take this one then." I said as I picked up a necklace with a blue amulet, before handing the cash to the grandma. It's not like I'm going to wear it anyways, maybe I'll give it as a gift to my older sister. But then, she'll think of this as a lame gift. Gosh. But I couldn't help but to notice the grandma smiling at me. Creepy much.

"Thank you very much, dear young lady. May great fortunes fall upon you." she murmured. I raised my eyebrows at her words. But then, I heard the sound of the tyres squeaking. As I looked down, the bus had arrived. Immediately, I grabbed the necklace in my hands and dashed down the bridge, just barely able to catch my bus.

Reaching home, I ate dinner while receiving another earful of my mom's nag about why I shouldn't be out late and all that. Blah, blah, blah. Not that I care anyway. After taking a quick, warm shower, I settled myself in bed as I started reading a textbook. It's strange. I was never one who would study but I felt like doing it. Yet, I was distracted. Distracted by the blue necklace I had bought at the bridge that was now laying on my desk. I gulped. I couldn't help but to shake off that strange grandma's words. "May great fortunes fall upon you".

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is she some kind of prophet or something? Heck. I huffed. Walking to the desk and picking up the blue necklace, I stared deeply into the blue orb. I could see my reflection that acted like a mirror. Honestly, I just bought this in a rush and simply out of pity. Who knows, I might actually look good in this necklace although I don't really like the colour blue though. Standing in front of the mirror, I placed the necklace around my neck and strapped the lock tightly. Immediately, it felt like magic. It was so weird, there was a sudden chill down my neck and I felt a little dizzy for moment. I had to close my eyes for awhile, aching at the sudden pain. But as soon as I opened my eyes, I got confused.

The reflection in front of me. I don't see myself. I don't see the lady that is me in the mirror. Instead, there is a cat. A siberian cat. What? I tilted my head and the cat too, tilted its head. Wait a minute. As I stared at it closer, there was a strange blue collar around the cat. Oh wait. No. What? I had almost wanted to curse out loud but instead, a voice did not come out of my throat. Instead, it was a meow.

Oh no. . Please tell me this is all a dream.

Please tell me, I did not just ing turned into a damn cat!

All of a sudden, the door opened and I froze.

"Bomi-ya! Bomi? Where did that girl go now?" That was the annoying voice of my older sister. I had wanted to call my unnie but instead, a frustrating meow came out of my throat. "What's a cat doing in our home? Aigoo, did my pabo sister find this stray cat on the streets? I'm sorry. My parents don't allow pets here." My sister bend down, cupped my body in her elbows as she brought me out of my room and suddenly outside of my house porch. Oh no. Sis, you can't do this to me! No!

I tried so hard to scream and shout at her. But in the end, it was all just useless meows.

Shutting the door tight, I was now literally kicked out of my own home. Gosh. What a nightmare. And well, that's the story of my own curse. It was hard but now I'm cool. Being a cat isn't so bad after all. You get to observe a lot of things that is happening around you, people on the streets, society and all that. And most importantly, I get to look at pretty boys and pretty girls without getting judged haha.

But really, I'm not a ert. I'm serious.

Chorong's POV

A sigh left my mouth as I collected my books and left the classroom. It had been once-again another tiring yet productive day at school. As a student council president, I liked getting things done. Maybe, I'm a workaholic after all. I don't really have a lot of friends but I don't mind because I prefer to be alone most of the times. With my backpack over my shoulders, I started to head home walking past the school gates. It was then, I spotted a crowd of students in one corner. Curiousity kills the cat. I peeked over to see what was going on. It was nothing much. Just school girls swooning over a mere cat. I've seen that cat since the beginning of the school semester this year. I don't know when it has started but I've always seen that same, grey patched siberian cat. It was always there during the early mornings, greeting students and teachers alike. I had always wondered if it had a home because there was a blue collar. Surely, it had one right?

People made up a lot of rumours about the cat. Some said the cat belonged to the school's principal while others made up a much darker story saying that the owner was a student and died in an accident. They are such try-hards for trying to make a story like Hachiko. I shrugged. But it was not like I could be so interested in a mere cat. I had other matters to worry.

Upon reaching home, I just remembered something. I had wanted to curse myself out loud but I didn't. I left one of my textbooks in the school locker which I was going to revise that night. With another sigh, I walked back to the school. It was dark and I had already sent a text message to my mom that I would be late for dinner. Arriving at the gate, it was closed. I knew it. Why was I so dumb to think the school would be open at 7pm? I'm going to be so screwed. I sighed as I lowered my head. But instead, a meow broke the silence. Immediately, I turned to the direction and noticed the same, siberian cat in a corner, staring it me with those dark, brown orbs. I've never really interacted with the cat before since it was always being hogged by other students. I thought maybe, this time I could.

"What are you doing here this late? Shouldn't you be heading home to your owner?" I talked to the cat as I bent down, ruffling my hands in between its head. The cat meowed in response. I felt like some crazy woman, talking to the cat. I sighed. "What am I even doing, talking to a darn cat." I mumbled. But soon, I noticed the cat still looking at me, head tilted to its side. I couldn't help it. It looked so adorable that automatically, I felt the edges of my lips curving upwards.

It was then I remembered, I still had some leftover biscuits in my backpack. Taking them out, I proceeded to feed the cat who immediately gobbled everything in my palm. I found it somewhat interesting to observe the cat. Maybe that's why everyone is in love with it. "It must be good to be a cat. You don't have to worry about anything at all. I'm so screwed for tommorow. I left my textbook in the locker but the school gates are closed. What do I do?" I mumbled myself. What am I doing, talking out my worries to a cat? I must be crazy.

But all of a sudden, the cat meowed and started walking away before stopping its steps, turning its head towards me and meowed again.

I stood there dumbfounded. Don't tell me, the cat is asking me to follow her? The cat meowed again before walking and continued to look back at me several times. To intrigue my interest, I followed the cat. It took me to the back of the school, near the garbage disposal site as there was a small gate. Wow. This cat is somewhat amazing. The cat meowed as it moved its head to face the direction of the gate. I headed and turned the knob, it unlocked. Oh my gosh. I almost gasped as I stared at the cat with widened eyes.

"Thank you!" I said while ruffling my hands onto its head as I quickly dashed inside. There was a path that eventually lead to the school garden and soon, the school building. Finding my way, I managed to arrive at the lockers and get my textbooks. All of sudden in that empty silence, I could hear the cat meowing again. And certainly, that meow meant something. As I looked around, I could see lights flashing from the other side of the corridor. They were the security guards. Quickly, I dashed back out without getting caught. Arriving back at the same entrance I came from, I caught my breath. With my hands tightly grasped onto the textbook, I noticed the siberian cat in front of me, staring with worried eyes.

"I'm okay. I didn't get caught. Thank you." I said as I walked away.

Safely arriving back home, I learnt something amazing about cats.

Cats are very smart animals.

Bomi's POV

I've seen many pretty girls and boys in my life but certainly, that girl just broke the whole limits. I was wary of her since the beginning but she always moved so fast into the school building that I never had the chance to interact with her. After all, I was just too busy when the other students were ruffling my fur which is certainly a sensation I could not resist. One of the few things I hate about being a darn cat. But at least for now, I know where my eyes are setting on. And of course, I remembered her name by looking at her nametag. "Park Chorong."

Honestly, I was a little tired and it was starting to get boring to always loiter around the school compounds. And when I mean school. I meant my school. I never knew such a pretty girl like her was attending my school. Boy, I wished I could just turn back into a human and become friends with her or something. But wait. I'm a cat. I'm no human. That means, I can do whatever the hell I want and no one will care. I just got the perfect idea.

The next morning as usual, I waited in front of the school gates as students and teachers alike all greeted me. Sometimes with a ruffle or just a smile. But my eyes were fixated on the crowd. I was waiting for Park Chorong to show up.

Well, speak of the devil. She was right there. Immediately, I walked up to her and meowed. Instead of her cold response, she smiled for the first time ever before quickly walking inside. Heck, it wasn't even much but my heart already fluttered. A smile so beautiful and brighter than the sun. I made a decision. A crazy decision. I am going to follow her home after school. Yup.

Killing time by visiting other places like the market to get free food, I returned just in time for school to end. Sitting in my favourite position, I watched the students getting out. Some were running, some were walking while some were in their own crowds. I scanned my eyes carefully and there she was. Like a beautiful flower in the middle of all the thorns. I mean, I'm not dissing anyone or anything. She's just too beautiful. At that moment, I moved and walked behind her. Of course, I could see how other people were staring at me. Well, mostly at her because she didn't even notice that I was following her behind. She was too engrossed in reading her textbook while walking. That's cute. It makes me want to protect her. Hopefully, she knows how to cross the roads right?

I continued to follow her from behind. When she stood at the crossroads waiting for the traffic light to turn green, I stood beside her. She still hasn't noticed me. Wow, does she have like a third eye or something. Her eyes were still glued to the book. The moment the light hit green with the sound of the beep echoing, she started walking again like a robot. In no time, I followed her into her quaint, little neighbourhood and soon, reached her house sandwiched between two other houses. Looks like at this rate, I might really be locked outside of her house. As she took a step, I meowed, letting her know my existence.

And in that moment, when she turned around, she had the most adorable reaction ever. Like seriously. She was so shocked, it was so cute. Oh my god. Help me.

Chorong's POV

I was about to unlock my door when all of sudden, I heard a meow from behind. No way. As I turned around, I gasped in surprise. No, it was no burglar. It was a cat. The same siberian cat that helped me out yesterday. Don't tell me, it followed me all the way here and I didn't even notice it? Oh my god, Chorong! I was clearly startled and confused, I couldn't really think properly at this moment. Should I take it back to the school? But what if it keeps following me? Should I just keep it? But then, what would my parents say? Ugh, this is so difficult!

"Did you follow me here?" I asked, bending down in which the cat meowed in response. I still find it amazing how a cat understands my words. "Shouldn't you be heading home? Where is your owner?" I asked. And then, I broke into a laughter. Oh gosh. What am I doing? It's not like a cat can answer my words anyway. The cat stared at me again, with those same eyes. I don't know why. There was something different about that cat's eyes.

"I don't know anymore. Great. Do you want to come in?" I asked in which it meowed. I had no other choice. It was going to get cold at night and surely I couldn't have the cat out there. Taking the cat in my arms, I brought it into my house and straight into my room. Closing the door tight as I turned around, I saw the cat walking about my room, staring at all of my things. It was strange. It felt very human-like. It first looked at my picture frames with my family, stared at my neatly-organised desk and then my cupboard. I guess it must be a very curious cat. As a person who liked things to be clean, the first thing that came into my mind was washing the cat. Just imagine the cat walking in all sorts of places in the streets with the dirt on its paws, no way am I having that cat onto my bed until it's speck clean.

Taking the cat in my arms, I opened the door to my bathroom and had it settled inside my empty bathtub. Closing the door shut, I the water tap. Usually, cats would be very startled and hate the idea of wanting to bath. But this cat in front of me, stayed calm and instead, stared at me. "Um..I'm going to bathe you because you're very dirty. I can't have you stepping on my bed with those flith all over you." I mumbled. It was still weird talking to a cat. As soon as the tub was filled with water, it was cute to see the cat swimming and trying to stay afloat.

Bomi's POV

I was extremely grateful to Chorong. Never before had I gotten a nice, warm shower in ages and the best of all, she's showering me. Okay, that sounded wrong but a cat can't shower by itself. After being dunked in water and soap, I was dried with a hair dryer and then comfortably wrapped in a towel. Wow, is this how it feels like to be clean after like one whole month since I've gotten this curse? As Chorong brought me onto her bed, she started to undress herself. I gulped and certainly I could feel my heart beating. I'm just a cat, so surely she wouldn't care less about stripping her clothes. I stared in awe, watching how her slender bodyline soon revealed itself, her pale, gentle skin that glowed. Damn it. Why am I not a human so that I could say to her, that she's beautiful? It was then, she was about to unpin her bra. I was starting to get excited. But I knew it was very wrong to feel that way. Honestly. It was like watching a show. But then, I noticed her glare. Her cheeks were flushed red. It was cute. Maybe she felt a little embarrassed that a cat was watching her being undressed. All of a sudden, she walked up to me, grabbed and placed me outside, shutting the door in front of me. Great.

But that was fine. I don't think my heart would be able to handle a fully Chorong. I would probably die and certainly, I don't want to die as a cat. I'd rather die as a human.

Within minutes, the door opened back and Chorong brought me back onto her bed. This time, she was fully changed into these comfortable pyjamas and had a towel over her shoulder. With her still-wet hair dangling across, boy, that was hot. Crap. I shouldn't be thinking that. I'll become a erted cat for god sakes! As I watched her in silence, blow-drying her hair and doing her own things, I didn't mind at all. In fact, it was much more interesting than watching a bunch of students walking into the school gates every morning. Heck, I hope she would adopt me or something.

All of a sudden, she left her room and returned with two plates in her hand. One was full of milk while the other was some tuna from a can. Hell yes, heaven. Immediately, I chowed down an absolutely beautiful meal while Chorong was at her desk, quietly doing her homework. Indeed, anyone could tell she was the hardworking, diligent student type. I admire that. I could never be someone like her. As I walked around her room, I was able to take in what kind of environment Chorong lives in, because her room reflects her personality. Before I could tell, night fell and I heard a voice outside, presuming it to be her mother.

"Dinner's ready."

"Ok, got it." Chorong replied as she shut the door before sighing. Her eyes moved to me as she blanked out for a second. Maybe she was figuring out how to tell her parents that she brought a cat in. At this rate, I could get kicked out or if I'm super lucky, I get to stay with Chorong. I hope it's the latter.

"I'm going to get dinner now. Just stay here okay?" said the girl in a gentle tone, ruffling my fur as she soon heading out, closing the door behind.

Chorong's POV

Gathered at the table as my family ate quietly. Here came the usual questions from my mom. How was school today? etc etc. I could already predict and prepare my answers. "It's the same." "Homework." Blah blah. I wanted to be a good daughter but at times I was pressured because of their expectations. I had wondered a lot whether to bring up the idea that I brought in a stray cat. Well, it isn't really a stray cat. That cat is well known in school. I honestly wasn't fond of pets but for some reason, the incident that happened yesterday changed my perception. I wanted to try at least once. To take care of a pet.

"Dad....mom...." I said breaking the silence. Immediately, both of them looked at me.

"I...brought a stray cat back home....."

I prepared myself. I thought they were going to shout at me, nag at me and scold me for bringing such a creature in. But instead, they surprised me with one question.

"Oh my, a stray cat? Does it have an owner? If it doesn't have a home, are you thinking of keeping it?" my mom asked.

"It has a blue collar on it....but it doesn't seem to belong to anyone. It's a cat that always loiters around the school. It followed me home today..." I explained carefully, hoping that they would consider it.

"If you take up the responsibility of taking care of the cat, then there is no problem. Right honey?" My mom asked, nudging my father who ate his food quietly.

"As long as it doesn't belong to anyone, you can keep it. Consider this a present for the results you have achieved in your last examination."

My eyes lit upon my father's words.

"Really appa? I can keep it?" in which he nodded. I smiled in delight as I thanked my parents.

Never before had I been so happy in my life. Although it isn't much but to think a cat, is now part of my family. I could not have been more excited.

After dinner, I smiled as I noticed the cat greeting me. Immediately, I lifted the cat up with a bright grin.

"Good news! You're staying with me!"

It meowed it responsed. I giggled for a moment, wondering how adorable it was as to how its brown orbs stared cutely into my eyes. Even I could tell that it was happy too, happy to finally find a home. With the cat finally up close, I managed to take a look at the blue collar strapped. It had a strange design. I wonder how did it get there?

I placed the cat down and began to remove the blue collar from the cat.

Bomi's POV

I was extremely elated when Chorong told me the news. Boy, I'm actually going to live with someone! But as she placed me onto her bed and started to unstrap the blue collar, I felt nervous for a moment. Although I had already given up on returning as a human, I was worried that the curse might be broken if the collar was gone. I mean, I've never tried doing that before. I stood still frozen as I watched Chorong freeing me from the collar. With a breath, nothing happened. That was strange. I did feel much lighter without it cupped around my neck though.

I could see how Chorong stared at the collar with furrowed eyebrows, trying to figure out what it was. Her expression was so cute, almost like a lost baby having no idea what to do with that object. For a few minutes, she analysed the thing and eventually gave it up.

"Ah, whatever. You're staying with me now. Hmm, I wonder what I should call you." Chorong hummed in thought.

I hope that she would give me a good name please. Not something cringy and not something embarassing.

"Shall I call you Bo? Bo?"

Well. That is surprisingly very close to my original name except it's missing the "mi" but it's fine. I meowed in response in which her lips curved.

"Bo-ya, you're going to start living with me from now on. Let's get along well." The girl smiled.

I was happy too. It was a little tiring to go around the streets and market begging for food, finding places to sleep in between garbage bins and alleyways. Starting a new life in a cozy, warm home and a beautiful master was a good start.

Although I did miss my life as a normal human but maybe I could start anew as a cat.

A curse that didn't seem so bad after all.

Author's POV

Things had been going extremely well between the master and the pet. Although in school, it was a different situation. Students and teachers alike had started to miss the cat, who randomly disappeared and no longer seen at the school gates every morning. There were even baseless rumours that the cat died in a car accident or some sort. Well, obviously its false. No one would've known that the cat now had a name, "Bo" and was living in the house of Park Chorong, one of the school's top students in the academic list.

Days passed and months, Chorong and Bomi had developed a rather interesting relationship that seemed so unreal. Surely, "Bo" was no normal cat. Whenever Chorong studied at her desk, Bomi would sometimes pick up stationaries for her. Leaving pens, erasers or even meowing to keep her awake, "Bo" was a very smart cat according to Chorong.

In times when Chorong fell sick after studying too hard, Bomi was always by her side. Wherever she was, Bomi followed her along. Well, except for the toilet. It became normal when Chorong was going to undress herself and Bomi would automatically walk outside of the room so that she wouldn't see her . It seemed so strange for a cat to even understand how Chorong must've felt to have someone stare at her. But no one would ever know about "Bo"'s little curse.

Whenever Chorong was in her dark times, pressure from studies and her classmates, she would talk out her thoughts. She thought it was crazy talking to her own cat but everytime she expressed her stress and struggles, Bo would meow back as if, to comfort her. Sometimes Chorong had wondered:

"If Bo was a human, what were the kinds of things she wanted to say to me? If only I could understand what Bo is trying to tell me, I wouldn't feel that guilty."

It was a clear, sunny Sunday afternoon. Chorong was stuck in her room as usual like any homebody would. Seated in her desk, reading a textbook while she had her wireless speaker playing a bunch of songs on shuffle, it seemed like her own ideal weekend. Her cat, Bo was lazing on her pillow but it wasn't sleeping. Instead, it was looking at her. In fact, this was normal. She wasn't sure why her cat liked to stare at her all of time but she had gotten used to it by now.

"Ah, I'm so tired." said Chorong with a yawn as she stretched her arms out wide. All of a sudden, she heard Bo meowing. Turning her direction, she smiled. Getting up from her seat, she sat on her bed in which Bo naturally settled onto her lap. Casually carassing her fur downwards, Chorong felt at ease being with her cat. It was strange. It was almost as if she was in love with her cat. She wasn't sure if she was going crazy because she was scared of talking to people but it didn't really matter anyway.

"Bo-ya, you're so cute." smiled Chorong as she lifted her cat up, wanting to take a closer look at its face. It was small, adorable and had its beautiful brown orbs. Bo stared back into her eyes, gazing through. "You're going to stay with me forever right?" in which Bo meowed in response.

She loved it whenever Bo responded back. It was almost like she was talking to someone. An actual human. She wondered if Bo was a special cat who made special connections with humans, especially her. This cat that started by helping her out, followed her back home, now hers and her motivation and moral support. She was thankful to Bo.

"I love you Bo." said Chorong with a grin as she leaned forward and gently pecked the cat's forehead.

All of a sudden, there was a bright white light. It was strange. The cat she was carrying suddenly felt so heavy. Like magic, she could feel something growing. As she opened her eyes again, she gasped.

Her cat, Bo was no longer there. Instead, there was a girl in front of her. A beautiful brunette to be exact.

Bomi's POV

Oh no. No. This isn't suppose to happen but it felt good. Feeling her wet peck against my forehead, I felt so free. The adrenaline of being kissed sent electricity down my veins and clearly, that was probably how cloud nine felt. But I didn't realise. All I needed to break this curse, was a kiss. As I opened my eyes, I stared blankly at Chorong as I was suddenly at the same eye-level as her. I could see the amount of confusion and shock painted all over my master's face. It was so adorable to the point that I wanted to pinch her cheeks and hug her warmly in my arms. But I knew I had something to explain to her.

"W-W-Who are you?!"

"I'm Bo. Your cat, my master." I responded with a chuckle, noticing how she still hasn't gotten out of the shock. "I had wanted to tell you for a long time but you see, I was a cat who certainly couldn't talk. I was cursed and thanks to you, it was broken. Thank you." I said, gently placing my hands on her shoulders. Finally, I could feel her in my grasp.

"I...."

"I know, it kinda shocked you right? By the way, my actual name is Yoon Bomi. You did get my name half-right. But calling me Bo sounds a bit weird now." I laughed, still finding it hilarious how was still jaw open, eyes still attached on me.

"Y-Yoon Bomi? You mean...the girl that was claimed missing in the newspaper one month ago and now presumed to be dead?"

"Yup."

Chorong gasped.

"Calm down, my dear master. Let's take this one at a time." I smiled as I looked back into her eyes. "There's so many things I wanted to tell you. I bet you felt strange too that a cat has been paying so much attention to you. I began to take quite a liking to my master. And before I had even realised, I fell in love with her. My master who is now in front of me." I continued while fixing her disheveled hair from the shock.

"Bo.....I mean....Bomi......."

"You're not crazy for talking to a cat. I heard you loud and clear. Everything about your school, your struggles, everything." I said, pulling her in a warm embrace. "You're not alone."

"I..I thought I was really crazy.....to think that a cat was always there by my side......to think that I was crazy to fall in love....with a cat...."

"It's not just any cat." I said with a sheepish smile. "It's that cat. That cat, which is me."
